They definitely dropped the ball on monitoring him. At one point neighbors called the police to tell them about the girl and two young female children seen playing in the back yard. They came to the house but NEVER checked the back yard. He was a CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER! I am glad that she sued the state of California and won, but it will NEVER bring back those lost years of her life. I read the book and what he did to her was disgusting. I was seventeen and a senior in high school when the book came out, and I immediately bought a copy. I remember just feeling my hands shaking as I gripped the cover, torn between feeling like I was going to vomit and scream at the same time. The notion that she was already about to have her second child at the age I was when I was reading the book was just horrifying to me. I remember several times just wanting to throw the book across the room and scream at Phillip and Nancy for doing this to her. So many times after reading a chapter, I would just put the book down and either stare off into space, punch my pillow, or just cry. I was so devastated by this real-life event that, during and after I read the book, I had difficulty sleeping...

I actually refer to my own parents as Nancy and Phillip Garrido. My own father sexually molested me when I was young and I tried to tell my mother after it happened and she pretended like she never heard anything and was in denial. I got up the courage to try to tell her again when I was 28 and the same thing so that's when I cut her off and she was dead to me and I have not spoken to her in probably 8 years. She chose her husband over her own blood child and protecting her own child. She chose my molester, my father, instead. She made her grave with him and now she can lay in it. She will never hear from me for as long as I live. And she will always wonder why, cuz she's in denial. Actually after no contact for 5 years, I sent her an anonymous envelope, with their mug shots and pasted my mother's and father's name under their photos. And I highlighted relevant passages that pertain to what my mother did to me and also my father, in relation to what happened to Jaycee. That was my closure. She may know who it was from or she may not considering she's in denial about everything. But I'm glad that will be the only thing that she will have ever received or heard from me, was the fact that I compared her to Nancy Garrido, the serial molester.

Yes it is unbelievable what people are capable of. Unbelievable that they were able to take and hurt an innocent child and unbelievable that Jaycee was strong enough to get through so many years of pain and thrive on the other side. I hope she has all the happiness she deserves and that while she can’t get that time back I’m glad she seems like she’s able to move on. Not everyone could stay sane and not hate and heal from such torment. I hope her children were and are a way to stay strong for them and herself
@vicksss8075 жыл бұрын
One thing that also helped her cope with her situation was her kids. Those kids in some sort of a way became an anchor to which she held on. After the birth of her kids she felt she was no longer alone and that she had something for which to live for.. The way she was brought up by her parents make her be the great mother she is today. I wish her the best. It does not matter who the father of her daughters is, the most important thing is that they are hers and hers alone and that no one can take them away from her like that man did to her mother when he kidnapped and robed her of her childhood..

Someone commented that there is no God. God did not do this to this beautiful child, and now woman. Evil is rampant in the world because Satan is the Prince of the Power of the air. Jesus will return one day to end his evil reign. I hope that sweet Jaycee has come to know the Lord through this unimaginable horror. Pray for her soul so that one day she will reap the rewards she so much deserves for having her formative years stolen from her and her family. She is amazing to be sane after such an ordeal. God bless the rest of her life.

I just don't understand the logic behind this, if your god existed and truly cared for this girl wouldn't he have done something to prevent this. Isn't he all powerful? Also hypothetically if jaycee decides on being an atheist does she still suffer when she dies because she didn't accept "the lord?"

@anongirl55910 жыл бұрын
There are many reasons: kidnapping for ransom, sexual abuse or murder. Children are sold into child prostitution and pornography all over the world...over 1 million per year is the estimate. Some sickos get off sexually on torturing and raping kids...others take it as far as murder. It boils down to pedophiles being unable or unwilling to control their urges. They should all rot in prison or get the death penalty, not "to teach them a lesson" but to protect the public. No amount of punishment will change these sickos. It's hardwired into their brains.

you are making a very big assumption by suggesting she is not shocked. If you knew anything about the human mind and how it works in cases like this one you would understand. Take some time when you have an opportunity and read up on Post Traumatic Shock Disorder(PTSD), it may make you more informed about victims of these kinds of traumatic injuries. The mistake you are making is that you are going by her demeanor on a few video interviews. That is an incorrect way of assessing shock in general.
