A learning process for me. Love how you went about creating this painting, being loose, but confident with your strokes. And, please laugh! You have a beautiful laugh! Made me smile!

Oh, Diane, how lovely this turned out! I love how the burnt umber/Payne’s gray bleed made those centres pop. I absolutely love using the Arches cold press block(s) but as many have expressed, I tend to be too precious about it. Thank you for this wonderful 2-part series ❤️🇨🇦

Thanks so much! Really appreciate your comment Didi, and I hope that it will help to encourage people to use their Arches paper to know that if it goes badly "wrong" you can wash off the paint with water, let it dry and start again!

A lovely field of flowers ❣️ I love Arches blocks. A dear friend who’s a very talented watercolorist advised me to use it. And often I use Etchr postcards, which are also 100% cotton. I can manage only one painting per week and so the cards and blocks lasts a long time.

I am eternally grateful to you Diane! Thank you so much. I do feel as if part of my problem is our dry weather, but I also admit I have a far way to go. Someone on one of the channels said you need about 10 years to get really good and confident with watercolor painting! Well, I do't have 10 years (well, let's pray...) But today is overcast and I am ready to hop in and give it a try to see. I'll check in with you soon. xoxoxoxo D
@DianeAntoneStudio3 жыл бұрын
Denise, I'm eternally grateful to you too! Don't blame yourself, or your weather, or anything else in fact! Quite a few people have remarked that Arches isn't what it used to be, and that the pads are worse than the sheets. But I found this pad quite reasonable, once you get to grips with it. I've just done a pair of cardinals, not wet in wet at all, and they worked quite nicely. Maybe you'll try that one when it goes up later in the week?

It came out great! I love the tip of using the stencil brush for texture on the flower centers. I'm pretty sure I have some of those. Not sure, however, if I have a filbert brush! I'm going to dig around and see if I have one. I was out shopping today. A friend of mine told me that Job Lots (kind of discount store) has art supplies and specifically watercolor paper. I found Strathmore 400 series and a Strathmore Visual Journal that's 100% cotton, for mixed media. I got one of each to test out. If I like them I'm going back to buy them all LOL

Since arches sold, their paper isn’t as good. Some sheets in pads or blocks may be ok, and others are not at all. However, in the sheets its fine. I switched to Hanhnemule Collection. Love the painting!

Thanks so much, and I appreciate the input about Arches. I'm going to get some new sheeets to compare and I'm going to buy Hahnemuhle and Fabriano which I know I like, when I have to stock up. Meanwhile for practice work I don't think you can go wrong with Clairefontaine Etival (also a Canson product) and Bockingford from the UK.

This is such a pretty composition, Diane! I think it would make a wonderful gift. Love how you used the colors, and a Filbert brush. I’ve only used a Filbert a few times, but think they are great for petals. What type of paper did you use for lifting paint out. I could hear the crinkle, but didn’t recognize the paper. It seemed to work so well. Hope you’re had a lovely weekend!
@DianeAntoneStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Constance thanks so much, really appreciate your feedback! I just used kitchen towel for the lifting out, nothing special at all. I think toilet paper would have worked, or kleenex. Anything. The paper gives the paint up very readily. Quite odd!
@constanceohara31913 жыл бұрын
@@DianeAntoneStudio Yes, Diane, I was amazed at how well the color lifted! I thought maybe the kitchen towel that you used made the difference.
