The Purple Delicacies Deep Inside the Mountains - Mountain Crabs

Have you ever tried crabs living in the mountains? In the streams deep inside Yunnan mountains, there are some purple crabs called "Mountain Crabs".
These crabs are small and have a strict requirements for their habitats. They can only live in non-polluted muddy water. Nevertheless, they have an amazing taste and can be eaten once deep-fried or made into a Jingpo dish - Pounded Crabs. I also made some Dai-style stuffed leaves with fish with these pounded crabs. Every bite is a treat for the taste buds.

The dish in the end looks familiar! Reminds me a lot of this very well known Vietnamese dish called pork bbq vermicelli but the way she eats the dish is similar to the way koreans eat bbq in vegetable wraps called ssam! Dawang is so well mannered. As kids in Nepal we used to grill the crabs and then crush them with garlic, tomatoes, chillies and salt and then add a little mustard oil . Later we would have it with boiled rice and dal . Thanks for bringing back those memories.

In Bangladesh we also have many kinds of these pounded dish.we call them "vorta". We also eat these vortas with boiled rice and dal.And Often with " panta vaat"aka" rice soaked in water overnight "." Vorta is one of our popular and often eaten food item
