I wonder if as part of the solve you're "allowed" to move the dice to a different square with the same marking, or if once you place the dice they are locked and the intended solution is to solve with them in those specific spots.

I think you are locked to a position you choose first. But if you want to make the puzzle much easier you can move the dice.

Wondering if the “free dices” movement makes the puzzle much easier compared to the “flipping pieces” movement…😅 The puzzle design seems to point the impossibility to flip pieces, and the allawance to move the dices. Btw, I really apreciate what youre doing! Congratulations!👏🏼

​@@PuzzleguyI'd be interested in seeing if there is indeed not only a position for each possible unique dice combination (of which there are 252), but also each unique dice PLACEMENT (accounting for each number and blanks having 7 slots available to place). My gut instinct says that movable dice could easily make all 252 solves possible, but that there's bound to be some positions that are not. So without allowing dice movement, you might make yourself stuck with an impossible puzzle.

You don’t often see a puzzle that has a different set up every time you solve the it. Some other ones that come into mind are Rubik’s cube and solitaire cards. Sudoku also has more than one set up but that cannot be created randomly.

Rubik's cube can be solved with the same algorithm no mater how it was mixed. This puzzle is always different. There is a very small chance you can cast the same numbers twice in a row.

Feels like this needs a proof of if every configuration is solvable (with or without flipping). Might be fun for someone to make a program to check.

I can check in burrtools if this configuration has more than one solution. If there is only one, that means the parts can be flipped.

It’s easy to prove that unsolvable configurations exist, assuming you’re not allowed to move the dice once they’re placed. Take a look at the top-right corner. If you place a 1 and 5 next to it and leave the 2 empty, you can’t fill that corner space. Even if you allow a non-blank space as the final one, you can place a 5 and 6 next to the bottom left as well, creating 2 unfillable spaces.

The fact that there exists an unsolvable initial position indicates to me that the dice can be moved after being placed, and in some cases must. With this in mind, proving that every possible dice roll is solvable - with or without flipping pieces - becomes the real problem, and this would require significant modifications to an existing brute-forcer.

I don't think it is a game. It is very similar to Pentomino puzzle. Hundreds and thousands of different solutions, you can enjoy it for a while.
