Historically, dice is plural and die is singular but in modern English it's both - it's a free for all!

No, in modern English die is singular and dice is plural. Using dice as singular sounds incredibly weird.

Most people say die and dice. For some reason, youtubers have decided it's normal to go with dice universally. Most dictionaries still say dice is plural. And the dictionaries often include misnomers like this in order to stay relevant... so until they do, I'm here grinding my teeth every time... and probably even after they do.

I don't think it's some conspiracy KZbinrs have decided on - it's been interchangeable for years. Of the old fashioned games I was playing 20+ years ago, some would say die, others dice - I learned back then that both are accepted. I linked this before to the previous comment but apparently it didn't stick: en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/dice it's not listed as slang, or incorrect, language is fluid, everyone's a winner :)
