So I work overnights. I couldn't watch this until today but I downloaded the podcast version and listened to it last night. What an absolute joy. I love the idea of a Cthulhu game set in a universe where Lovecraft and the Mythos are canon fiction. It zigged instead of zagged and was just a lot of fun. Congrats to you all, and, Cameron, don't beat yourself up too much for things you forget until they're relevant. When you're the Keeper you got a lot of balls in the air, don't worry if you lose track of one or two. BTW, I'm watching now for Franky and his shenanigans.

Usually I have Dice Friends playing in the background while I do something else. For this episode, about 30 minutes in I just quit out of the game I was playing and watched, completely transfixed. I am so hype for episode 2.

Yeah, usually I find these Dice Friends videos a bit slow-paced, but this one kept my interest. Cam is doing a great job. And the twist that takes this adventure up a level is fascinating.

There's two minds on that: Those that believe the game should be true to the fiction, and those who believe the game should be a campaign of investigation and expanding horror. As the newer editions have come along, the second school of thought seems to be prevailing, with rules in place to make crucial rolls easier. In the fiction, the tales are often recounted by a solo protagonist, either insane or recounted in their lost notes. But, as a campaign, its a group, and you have skills to deal with obstacles. Its a slow descent into madness, but there are moments of hope and the characters can always choose to look away. The fun does come from when it gets tough, but you could say that about D&D as well. Its also got an element of Shadowrun: where things get fun because the plan goes boom.

In defense of people born around '90, i had vhs tapes into the early 2000s. So they would be completely familiar. On a more personal note, i may have owned every episode of voyager, ds9 and next gen on tape. It filled 3 bookcases.

I didn't discover Dice Friends until Bylaw & Order, so I'm catching up. I started getting the 2am paranoids at 1:30am and had to break to watch puppy videos for an hour before trying to sleep. I'll be doing the rest of Chthulu games during the daytime. Very, very beautifully crafted.

I made a lot of wrong guesses during this episode about what would happen next. I was convinced pretty early on that it would end with them transported into the world of the game, and seeing the 'real' world through their phones. I was also sure Peter would see his car getting broken into in the app, while it was unmolested IRL. I look forward to being even wronger next week.

OMG I played the campaign that Cameron says his ingame game is based on- it's the only cthulhu prefab campaign I ever played- and we did it completed ass backwards and went to the house without any investigation or clues or anything, and promptly got thrown out a window by an angry bed ^___^ Ah Youth.

Pretty sure everyone who's played CoC has played The Haunting- afaik it's been printed in every single edition's core sourcebook and for good reason- it's a very capable starting scenario with a managable scope. I also was introduced to Mr. Window by an angry bed.

+1 for OneNote. I'm in the process of converting all my multitudes of txt files for my D&D campaign into a single Notebook, and for scatterbrained fragmented notes (which Scrivener and YWriter don't really support) that still need to be navigable (in a way that a txt file rarely is) it's absolutely perfect.
