how would this work if we were to consider a fourth dice in the first question? would it be using this method twice?

Good question! It can get quite complicated if you try to generalise... but for four dice you could take the totals from the table and match them with the third dice to get a new table of totals... I’m not sure it’s the best way though

Or you can use nPr to find the total possible outcomes for each situation.
