Red is truly a terrifying color. Because of just how well it also compliments it’s ally’s Green and Black. Black is a sadistic color, who kills purely for pleasure. And Green is a natural color, any horror from there is natural. Wether it’s an emotion or living being. It all plays so well in the molding of the slasher. @astuteanansi49352 жыл бұрын
Kind of ironic, since the usual color of cosmic horror in MTG is colorless (things that don't fit into the system of things as we know them) or blue (things that cause madness). But the horror of nature, be it in the form of voracious animals, natural disasters, or even something as simple as being lost in the woods, is kinda similar in the sense that it's all things that fall outside of our realm of what can be negotiated with or controlled, because they have no concept of morality. Green horror is usually about nature overtaking society in such a way that all societal constructs become moot and fall apart. Green Phyrexia, for example, is the idea of natural selection taken to the point where it's basically a parody of itself, a hellhole where everything either preys on everything else or becomes prey, and the law of the strong is the only one that matters. Come to think about it, the idea of taking the worst characteristics of every color and exaggerating them to the point of caricature is pretty much the basis of all horror in New Phyrexia... I mean, the White faction is composed of religious zealots who literally want to stitch everything in the world into the same pulsating mass

It often has felt like I'm not even human. The systems that were supposed to protect me have often times segregated me. At times, my freedom was threatened for not following the system. All the while, they've excused others for harassing me. As an adult, I've learned that I can't trust the judgment of my peers or the intentions of those in power. So you can kinda iterate on what Dice did here by figuring out what each pair agrees on and looking at what the ally pair opposite could represent to that enemy pair. For example, BG, or Golgari, is the pairing of the circle of life. It embraces all facets of nature and is perfectly willing to meddle in life, death, and undeath, to achieve its goals as they are simply states of being in a much longer chain. The ally pairing that antagonizes it is WU, or Azorious. This pairing is the pairing of sterile order, the pairing of the machine. Azorius in this facet embodies a Kafkaesque wasteland that is not made for living things. It is the computer that is more intelligent than you could ever be, the automaton that levels the woods and paves them over. It is something larger and stronger than nature, that wants to unmake the entire chain. Another example would be WR, or Boros. These could be considered the colors of heroism. They are righteous and independent, seeking to do good for all on their own terms. They're opposed by UB, or Dimir, the colors of a coldly rational self-interest. The fear that Dimir inspires in Boros is a much more personal one, as it is a fear of oneself. Specifically, your own capacity of doing evil. It's the paralyzing fear that sets your feet in stone as you watch someone wander in front of a moving car. It's the clarity after murdering a loved one in a fit of passion. It's the banal evil of "just following orders." Dimir's horror is the weakness of character you are well aware of but do not know how to overcome, and that is something that Boros cannot stand.

The fear of a callous oppressive institution stripping away your dignity, your autonomy, even your very interiority, is a fear that is all too real. Serial killers and torturers get a lot of press, but they are limited by the soft and hard caps of biology and anatomy and institutions don't have to be. Institutions can do their work on a scale often unfathomable to most people and can work across lifetimes and generations to snowball their influence and colonize the fabric of culture. What's worse, institutions can stack their influence with other institutions and intermingle with them, so that even if you eradicate one, the others will ensure the work continues and even make space for it to return. Institutions have the most power to create suffering in this or any world that's capable of sustaining a dimension of social cohesion and an inequality of access to information and power.

Thinking that an eldritch horror can rob us of our sanity (blue), murder us outright (red), or even act as an ultimate authority that ascends the laws of our realm (almost kinda like white). Let alone the fact that just setting eyes on something that was of eldritch nature already would probably inflict a sense of doom or peril pretty easily.

I guess my fear would be White, I’m Green and Blue based on the colour quiz, my immediate fear response isn’t as intense as most people I know and being autistic has definitely left me feeling like I don’t have that much control over things on occasion. Great video by the way.

Great video, have always loved the work you put into them. And I guess the horror potential of white is what gets me. It’s just so daunting to face and the idea of getting lost and abandoned in the system.

According to online color quizzes, I am somewhere in Jund. And honestly my biggest fears and biggest reliefs are not being in control. Having power stripped away from me, and being brought low is a thought that terrifies me, but so does having power over others, the capacity to make things worse for them, and by extent, being a worse version of myself. It's an odd balance. And then there's my crippling phobia of needles, I cry like a baby every time I have to get a vaccine it's wild. They don't even hurt idk why I freak out so much

I think red's horror best example isn't the slasher but war. It's immediate and indiscriminate chaos and violence. Finding yourself at the wrong end of an artillery barrage that misstook your house for an ammunition stockpile. Knowing that your town is under siege and just hoping to be lucky enough to not be burried under rubble. It's having your life be dependant on a diceroll, one that you have no controll over and just watching as the result emerges. I also would have put the eldritch and unknown things in blue considering the vast ammount of monstrous sea creatures the colors have. Green IMO is then more rooted in humility. Things you can't tame or controll and that will eat you, not of malignant purpose but because it just recognize you as food. It's time that inevitably erodes any power structure, enchantment or artifact. The fear that one day everything will end and come back to nature, that in the grand scheme of things, no matter how much controll or power you have over the world is nothing because that will also fade. Which fits for both its ennemies are obsessed with grandeur.

I think a better one for blue would be someone losing themself in the pursuit of greatness. The ends justifying the means, even if their goal is pure... no matter what they have to sacrifice, the good of the world around them, or their own identity All for greatness The best horrors i think are when the goodness of each color goes too far

Something to consider is what happens when dealing with a horror is of multiple colors, especially enemy colors. Let's take Blue/Red for an example. How would a horror like this work within the color system? Blues enemies are Red/Green, and Reds enemies are White/Blue. However, like all enemy color pairings, their bridge color is no enemy to them, but rather an ally of both colors while refusing to stand in their way, in this case Black. Here is my theory on how this would work. Taking from Dice here, Blue wants to mess with your mind, your perception on reality itself. While normally Blue wants to feed on your loss of identity, self, or the delusion of that loss, this strength is pulled from the fears of Red, and with Red being a core part of the horror in this example, this method Blue normally uses is altered, and changed. Rather than inflicting this delusion of identity onto the self, it becomes inverted, and now it's the identity of everyone around the victim that falls into question. The victim is always sure of what and who they are, but are now unable to take anyone around them at their word, after all who could when Blue inflicts its own curiosity onto its victims, calling everything into question and never being able to truly get a proper answer. This empowers Blue's power from the fear of Green, with reality all around you no longer making sense, especially when your own eyes and ears are lying to you, or ... are they just showing you the real truth you could never see before? With Red pulling from the fears of White/Blue follows a similar path that we see with our observation of Blue. As Dice mentions, Blue & White are dependant on their organizations, structures, and communities. However, they do so with different motives and methods. While White sets these tools up to help create order, peace, and civility in order to promote its values, and hence exert control over others, Blue insteads sets up these tools to instead discover, create, foster ideas, to change the world around itself for the sake of doing so, seeking perfection of itself and the world around it. It's here where the difference shows us how Red uses Blue to bolster its strength pulled from the fear of White. In horror Red is undeniable, it is right there, always coming for you, so vicious and real that to deny it just sabotages yourself. So how does Red use Blue to its benifit? Red here wants to actually leave the structures in place, for rather than showing their inherit weakness through direct action, instead it knocks right on the door, walks right in, and siezes it for itself. This is where the perfection comes in, except its not an idealized perfection that often comes the color pairing of Red/Blue, no instead what we see is the warping of these organizations to show the weakness of its proposed virtues, its empty charity, the lies of peace. These once great structures are remade to instead promote Red's undeniable savagery, spitting its former gospel in irony as Blue reworks everything to Red's benifit. That then leaves Black, an observer in this. As the bridge color, It can often strengthen both of its allys, however in the case of horror, it becomes apparent that when you pair enemy colors together, you create an enviroment for the bridge color to florish. In this example, we have a horror turning everyone against each other, no one can trust anyone else, there's no one and nothing to turn to for salvation, you can only rely on yourself. It's here where we can actually find a salavtion against an enemy horror pairing: The Bridge Color. Against this enemy, you need an amoral hero, you need a stark indivialist, you need a group willing to slaughter its own friends family and comrades if the need for it is called, you need hero's who are limitless and able to do what's difficult. While the Red/Blue Horror is bolstering itself by warping the goverment, churches, and communities against its own people, by having people slaughtering and warping everything around them, you need a hero who never needed those communities, you need a hero who never agreed with that gospel anyway, you need a hero who always wanted it all for themselves anyway. When dealing with an enemy horror pairing, turn to the color that is best suited to side with the monster if you wish to defeat it. ( Reply and tell me what you think! )

I have two major things I am afraid of but at the same time, these two things are connected. The first one is being trapped physically or mentally and being tormented physically or mentally, I just found the worst thing that could happen to someone being trapped and living forever why you get tormented. The second one is me becoming a monster and I can't control what I do because of psychological or physical reasons. I'm totally fine with dying but the possibility of me being trapped forever or me becoming something that I cannot control scares me.

Two easy simplifications for this one; the first, obviously: Phyrexia. Mono color in it's purest form, with no influence from others. Secondarily: Magic, without magic. Green's horror in particular makes me think of someone just before they become Blue. Perhaps in the merging from one enemy color to the next is where true 'horror' lies for each color. What black becomes on its way to white, what blue becomes on its way to red... That's what seems to summarize these points: Not any specific fear in general.

While it is in a colour that I do tend to enjoy playing, and one of my best allies, the horror of Red hits closest to home for me. And yes, I normally play Black (and blue, but mostly black). For me, it isn't so much the fear of the Slasher, but the revelry of the Slasher. For someone my size and strength, my fear isn't just losing control, but more the enjoyment of the pain and suffering that I could inflict, if I didn't have the self-control that I do. So, yeah. To summarise more clearly, it isn't so much the fear of violence as it is the fear of enjoying that violence so that I may seek it out like an elicit substance.

Wow. This video was amazing. The color is pie got me into Magic and ultimately what made me fall in love with it. This video shows just how fleshed out the color pie is. Irl I would say I'm White/Blue so according this Red would be my fear. I wouldn't say it's wrong, someone who murders outside of civilized reason or rhyme does go against my moral philosophy of peace and order. That being said I'd say out these 5 green would probably be my biggest fear. Something horrifying and greater than my understanding, something truly incomprehensible and shatter my perception of reality. In game I play White/Black making me Esper (fearing Red/Green), which in my opinion shows how well made this video is! Funnily enough I have always fascinated by cosmic and Eldritch horror. On a related note Blue and Green horror are similar, both making you lose your grasp on reality and questioning everything you know. Ever since I hallucinate from a fever I have been afraid of them. And to go back to irl I have always thought that if I were 3 colors I would be Bant, so again this makes sense. Sorry to anyone still reading, I ended up rambling and the comment is just a random jumble of words at this point.

(I may be 2 years late on this video but i must say this:) white for me represent the fear of being alone, to die alone, nobody remebers you or knows who you are, one of my biggest fear. The fear of nothing being secure. Blue i relate to the unknown, deep waters, outer space, fear of what we do not know or can't see. Red is pritty simple, the fear of anger, emotions, rejection, ridicule, never being able to trust someone again. Green is more material, namely fear of insects and bodyhoror, descusting and bloody things. Black is also quite simple in words, but in concept complicated: the fear of death, the fear of darkness, the fear of loosing yourself and become... nothing... This is my take on my common fears... as someone on the autism spectrum and suffering with ptsd and constant nightterrors, these fears are everyday/night struggles. Kind of why i love duskmourn so much, using your fear and emotions to fight for you!

loss of one's self or of one's individuality are concepts our world today is constantly on the edge of. we give away so much of our time and money just to pretend not to exist. the real secret to life is to live happy and don't be distracted of fearmongered by others. it's your life, so live it the best you can, and however you want.

Alongside my post on autism, I would say I've had contemplations about the horrors of green. My thought process is that the planet, and nature itself, is a mechanism. Every natural force is part of this mechanism like a cog in a machine. Nature is based around cycles such as the hours of the day, seasons of the year, and stages of life. Everything is subject to the mechanism. The fact is that we humans are individualistic by nature. We have our own thoughts, desires, emotion, needs, and ideas. Some of these go in line with the mechanism. Others not so much. We want and need things that do nature won't allow for some reason or another. Maybe because of genetics, geography, fate, or just the way people are designed. We spend our time trying to survive in a world that doesn't give a crap about us but expects us to care about the fragile balance of nature. So, in conclusion, WE ARE AT WAR WITH NATURE. Unlike with white, nature gives us the chance at fighting back. But we will be doing so against overwhelming forces that we can't comprehend. What's makes matters worse is that these forces know us, and can even control us. We are at their mercy.

I think I would broaden blue, not just to madness, but a fear of things not meant to be known. The whole horror of Frankenstein is that Victor crossed God and Nature and now he and his whole family is being punished for it. We never learn how the monster is made but it is clear that this knowledge that should never have been brought to light. Blue seeks to learn without care for what harm the knowledge can bring about.
