Lets not forget how difficult this game can be. It requires a little dedication. Getting a bunch of new customers into the game is only a positive if the interest is there beyond the IP. Otherwise you are catering to crossover consumers more than your current fan base. Somebody who's at Wal Mart might be like "oo Spongebob" and buy a pack or two but that money doesn't have the stamina. Eventually they will run out of crossover options and be left with non-players. Ive already sold like $500 in cards this week. Keeping my decks around and will still upgrade, but im done cracking packs and staying tuned in. Arena is garbage enough anyway.

Been rewatching Evan Erwin's old 'The Magic Show' videos, and it's nice to hear him talk about the first walker cards. When War of the Spark came out, it felt like an overload of Planeswalkers, Wish WOTC would have held back on them for a few sets after that...

Started playing MTG in Spring of 2010(Friend got me into it by letting me build a deck with his cards, made a mono red deck with Kamahl Pit fighter) It was pretty fun starting out, only game I ever played till then was YuGiOh(Still my baby!) Mirrodin is my favorite plane, I always go back to Scars Block. There's a part of me that misses 2013-2016 Magic. Theros, Khans, Kaladesh. Miss it all.

All these major companies, following maximized profit for the short term to ruin the reason why they are popular in the long term. We're living in a weird world right now, it's not only Magic, it's almost everything with this trend. They think players are money bags growing in a garden or something. Dumb business managers treating customers like subhumans. Big corportaions fracking the common citizens. It's all "Ego" honestly, they have so much confidence that they can continue doing this.

Everything post-mending has been kind of lame in my opinion anyways. Plus I'm actually excited for Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy has more in common with pre-mending sets than new sets like Aetherdrift do. Magitek and artifice, materia and powerstones, Lightning and Gerrard. I'm not a huge fan of all these lame genre-shifting sets of late. I don't like Outlaws of Thunder Junction, I'm not going to like Aetherdrift, Duskmourn was meh. I'm moderately excited for Tarkir Dragonstorm and Edge of Eternities. But Final Fantasy I'm really really hyped for.

Magic: the Gathering slowly abolishing their lore and becoming a system, that can be applied on every existing IP. Magic: the Gathering repeating Weiss&Schwarz path. Good or bad, you must decide. I just playing a card game

As someone with a Rakdos core with a Mardu splash into White, I can never see something so stale and static and traditionalist as Bant without distrust. A world and philosophy based around structure and discipline is, by its very nature, built upon the exclusion of that which can't be made to fit the mould. I'd also argue that Bant is the very opposite of self-actualisation of the individual - what you end up actualising is merely what Bant society wants you to be, rather than anything self-determined. It also lacks the ability for the individual to truly rage against injustice; they oppose wrong-doing just because they think they *should*, not out of passion. And, of course, a Bant society can easily end up oppressing those who end up falling short of their definition of perception. It is the supreme conservatism of Selesnya coupled with the meticulous planning of Blue. To link into the fear video somewhat, of all the colour identities, Bant scares me the most, as it's most likely to diagnose and institutionalise and *fix* those who do not fit their vision of utopia. Fits the Utopia book pretty well, really.

It’s too nasty I can’t play all these non magic sets the secret lairs was weird enough just ruins the whole thing at some point guess I will probably not be purchasing new cards which will be nice on the wallet but sad to have to stop collecting a game I like because it’s isn’t what it was anymore

I got into and love magic because it's about knights, dragons, goblins, wizards, warlocks, elves, and rogues. I love the theme and high fantasy. Now I get to look to forward to my goblins fighting the avengers... kinda takes the wind out of my sails just to type that up.

My first booster pack was Future Sight, and I first really started getting into Magic with Shadowmoor and Shards of Alara. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but it felt so much more *magical* then. In all three of those blocks, the worlds felt so fascinatingly unique; the art, flavor, and worldbuilding were so rich and expertly crafted. I was hooked. That level of craft just doesn't happen anymore. For most new planes and sets, you can sum up the world in two or three words, and it usually falls back onto one single gimmick with constant pop culture references. Now, most of Magic isn't even Magic.

It kicks ass, forget the noise. I havent bought magic prosuct since 1995 and spent over 1000 in the past year after they finally expanded the boundaries

This is what happens when you focus on short term profits and dont really care about the franchise, or the long term, same as basically every other company. The most annoying part of this to me is the fact that, they act like this a noble thing because the fun mechanics of the MTG format can be shared with other fandoms now, as if it wasn't them that locked it away from everyone else for decades with copyright and lawsuits making it harder for TCG to grow and evolve in general.

Honestly, 200 million dollars at the time of that article for a tie in? Which is significantly less risky then making a wholly new world and set and everything? I would be tempted if i were a ceo

This is a sign MTG is dying and they need the casual crowd to survive. I guess the goal is to make these sets collectibles and limited edition to drive the hype.

I don't think spider man is going to sell as well as WOTC thinks it will. It will sell, but i don't feel the hype or craving for marvel like there once was.

I left the game in 2017 after playing since 4th edition. I'd had too many bad experiences with WOTC, including some seriously screwed up stuff. I like worlds they came up with and the mechanics that fleshed them out, but there's something wrong with the people at WOTC now. Since I left MTG and D&D I've seen quality take a nose dive; Uninspired content, hacked together mechanics, spelling errors, formatting errors, misprints, low quality materials, literal missing/incomplete rules, and insufferable politics. WOTC ruined themselves, and this was worlds beyond stuff was kind of inevitable. Too many other people like me just drifted away after feeling like they'd been scammed out of their time and money. They had to try and get people outside the hobby to buy their stuff to make up for the customer bleed. It'll work, for a while, but it won't solve the underlying problem.

I feel like the sponge Bob should be a universes beyond unset. That would be hilarious and fun for those less serious battles. They could even make their own commander decks that are unsets and have a party game flavor. Add at least one set to it every year of crazy IPs.

Thanks for not making a toxic positivity video saying “magic is still fun, people enjoy it”. I’m sick of content creators acting like this isn’t a disgusting betrayal of the entire fanbase

People being unwilling to change their habits around magic means nothing will change. "I hate this but I'll keep buying it" isn't the attitude to have. If this bothers you, don't buy it. It's like all the people bitching about Elon Musk ruining twitter from their Twitter accounts.
