My father was taught by Dick Contino in the 40's. Apparently he appeared on his shows as well. Never got to hear him play, but it is nice to know he was part of that scene.

I love the way he plays. I had seen him at the NCO club at Han AFB Getmany in mid 60s he is so great. I got me a Cordorvox Accordian an started to play to this day. God bless Dick C. Pietro!

I met Dick in Milwaukee, and he sent my son, Dominic, an autographed photo of himself-And, we spoke about his movie, "Daddy-O" and spoke kindly of a Chubby Actor named Bruno VeSota, who played a gangster in the movie, and Dick humbly said, "Bruno gave me a lot of support--after all I'm not an actor--"

Dick is 81 this year 2011 & is still pumping the organ!!! Going to see him in Reno & many other great players of the Accordian including his son Pete Contino & and his long time bandleader Corky Bennett at the Great American Squeze Off, April 4-5, 2011.... Should be fun!

I saw him play at a theater in Chicago when I was a kid, they always had a act before they showed the movie, I believe it was at the maralbro theater. Lots of Italians around there at that time. his career took a big slide when he was drafted and went AWOl during the Korean war, he served prison time for it and I think he still ended up in Korea but not sure. He was a pretty popular guy at the time, nice to see he still was entertaining. I have to look up the movie I know Jane russel was in it. I think it was a reshowing of the outlaw, not sure. that movie was older.
