Man, I just have to answer you. Yesterday I was in London on the BBC Proms 7 and Jacob Collier performed this piece. It was in every way a absolutely amazing Show, but when we heard him singing this together with Becca Stevens, Sam Amidon and the Metropole Orkest with Jules Buckley as conductor, we were just sitting there in the Gallery and crying and crying and crying. If you love this Song go to BBC Proms Homepage and Listen to the whole Concert. This Song is appearing at 1:51:00. Greetings from London

This is such a fine rendition of this song. I found it by accident years ago while looking for Emmylou Harris and that prompted me to get a couple of the DVDs from TransAtlantic Sessions, which were at the time not region coded for USA. I bought a DVD so I could play them. Later I found the uploads of TransAtlantic Sessions on YT, for which I am grateful This song touches my heart.

What a team. With Dick & Emmylou we have the McGarrigle sisters Kate & Anna, Rufus Wainright who is Kate's son, Jerry Douglas on slide guitar, Jay Ungar & Aly Bain on fiddles. Jay's partner, Molly Mason, is probably hiding in the background playing bass.

Some artists are called the one and only but on this occasion it could not be just words .saw him in Enniskillen and all so had a couple of conversations, his music was all about working class people, some hardships and some uplifting. Dick made his listeners believe everything he sang . So good to have heard him on on several occasions.

Indeed it was, but it's practically a straight take from the Braes o' Balquhidder, by Robert Tannahill. A more Scottish tune and lyric it'd be hard to find.

***** yes you are absolutely right. I knew the song from being a child, the Mc Peakes version, and only recently found that it was taken from Robert Tannhill poem. Between them all it is one of the most evocative songs,, be it irish or scots.
