I am so sorry for that loss. Something I've always liked about these traditional scot/irish songs is they acknowledge the inherent sorrow to any joy directly or indirectly. That you loved fearlessly and remember it is something I admire. Life gives us so few joys as great. I bet she was a presence to behold. Cheers to further risks from hope and beauty.

SmilePileProd I did feel that way, she was a strong, and gentle lady, she might not have been perfect, but she was just perfect *for* me, I know she is looking down from Heaven and still watching over me. I feel her on a cool breeze in a still room and now it is a kiss. I have many great memories of her, including friends at a pub playing it for me on our first real date that and Gentle Annie by Tommy Makem were our songs.

me an exiled Langholm man living in North London. The music of the Corries is uplifting and brings a tear to the eye. Roy died far too young. Both should have been Knighted for their music. Cannot hear Flower of Scotland or the Rose of Allendale or any one of the great songs without thing of grand nights at the City Halls in Glasgow in the late 70s early 80s. Aye the best Scotland has ever produced.

I have a dearly departed friend. Before she succumbed to cancer, while she was still vibrant at a camping event, I asked her for a song to learn on my cello, in her behalf. She told me to learn this song. Forever in my heart, this song is hers. and I can still recall her joyous exuberance as we hiked around the campground that night. I barely got to know her, but I miss her.

I'd love to know the story of how this song saved your life! I've heard one song saved a life before, Stan Rogers The Mary Ellen Carter, with its refrain, "Rise again, rise again - though your heart it be broken And life about to end No matter what you’ve lost, be it a home, a love, a friend. Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again. A man was drowning, and about to go down for the last time, when he heard this song in his mind and with all his dwindling strength - rose again. A passing boat saw him and rescued him. Please tell us your story. It won't tarnish the loving grief of the many who associate it with the ending of life.

I’m an American, and I love this beautiful song. I first heard it in Scotland and knew it as Will Ye Go Lassie. When my father passed away, I asked my classical guitarist son to choose a song to play at the funeral. He asked me to check out an instrumental called Wild Mountain Thyme. I recognized it immediately and was very touched to hear my son play this at my father’s Mass.

O the summer time has come And the trees are sweetly bloomin' And the wild mountain thyme Grows around the bloomin' heather Will ye go lassie go? Chorus: And we'll all go together To pull wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will ye go lassie go? I will build my love a bower (summerhouse) By yon cool crystal fountain And round it I will pile All the wild flowers o' the mountain Will ye go lassie go? (chorus) I will range through the wilds And the deep glen sae dreary And return wi' their spoils Tae the bower o' my dearie Will ye go lassie go? (chorus) If my true love she'll not come Then I'll surely find another To pull wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will ye go lassie go? (chorus)

My grandmother sang this song to me while she rocked me as a young child.... I did not remember the song until I heard it again almost 35 years later when performed in a Halifax restaurant. It brought me right back on her lap as a young child in the rocking chair, hearing her sing it to me. I hope it resonates ith my grandchildren as much.

Went to all their concerts in Edinburgh when I was younger, and they were always packed out. Loved the way they could get the audiences to sing along with them. Roy Williamson had the most amazing musical talent and his premature death was a tragedy.

that contrast of voices, rough and smooth, those simple but elegant rhymes, vivid words, over a simple plucked guitar, then the chorus of singers behind it, the gentle footstep sound, the vocal harmonies blossoming and strengthening, it's almost unbearable how beautiful it is

If you're looking for it, this version can be found on the album "The Corries - In Concert". One of my favourite albums. It's a live album, has the audience singing along. They even get the audience to harmonise on one song.

Apparently, the old church hymns were a reflection of the rich culture of the colonialists expressed to their maker. I'm listening to this from Ottawa in Spring 2023 and it reminds me of the old spiritual songs I used to hear from my late friend Joseph Dada Adegoke. He was raised in an orphanage in Mopa, Kogi State Nigeria. I can't describe the feelings this tune evokes. Thanks to the person who wrote the lyrics so I can follow the tune. Sounds like something JD would have enjoyed. And Graeme Barnantyne too. Thanks for sharing this collection, they are awesome.❤❤❤

My Heart Is Home Lush and green the grass does grow where children play and sheep do roam Lovers kiss among the shamrocks seagulls fly in glorious flocks Stories told that are so dear to eager ears from far and near heather gathered in a bouquet all is well with you today Music lifting from off the land nature's song from ocean's band Such at peace, my heart is home from Ireland, I dare not roam. Misty rains from the heavens above wet the gardens, sowed with love Church bells chime in the evening fair blessings said from mothers with care Great beauty is this land cared for by tired hands Such at peace, my heart is home from Ireland, I dare not roam
