Dick's phraseology influenced Jean Stafford

Dick Cavett's monolog from February 21, 1973. Dick used the phrase "an influx of suckers". I'm convinced that Jean Stafford heard that phrase. Because 5 years later, Jean wrote a short story called AN INFLUX OF POETS. A story which Dick himself praised on one of Dick's shows.

i know this is an 8 year old video but why is the audience so dead during his bits? they're quite funny to me. reflective of society during the 70s or something like that?
