I saw the mod you did on your second video, really cool. on a safety note, when I was stationed in the military in korea, in the villages they use to burn coal in the winter time to stay warm, a lot of people were found dead because of monoxide gas. I would rather see you around for a long time , so be safe, you can pass out from those fumes. headache is first sign.

FYI...You really do needs a flue damper, you can even install it now inline from the stove to the ceiling inside the stovepipe. Its like an accelerater to slow or fast burn of any solid material used by controlling the exhaust, all it is, is a paddle round in shape inside the flue pipe to control the drafting of the burn. By turning the paddle horizonal to the pipe cuts off the air flowing up the inside of the pipe. Vertical would mean to accelerate the burn. So, with that you should be able to burn wood with no problems. Its maybe a total cost of $8.00 bucks, and drilling two holes. Hope you get it done and wood burning would be quite cheaper than briquettes. :) & then put a heat shroud around the pipe for cooler surface temperatures.

Thanks Burl,, I will check into doing that ,,, I will probably have to build my own I don't think they make one for 3 inch stove pipe
@burlcarey10 жыл бұрын
Sure they do...they are most likely cast iron. Your local Ace Hardware store should if not already have them. You should see "Navigator Stove Works" they have them for a price of $10.00 bucks. But you can get them as I personally have seen 3"flue dampers sell for 4-8 dollars...just look around. You should be able to find one or make one yourself. They are just a flap for metal to damp the air flow. They do fit loose in all sides of it around the inside. Its not meant to disquingushe the air but to damp it from being a full bore of air, which has the oxygen, thus fuelling the fire. Also prevents a negative pressure from the outside so the stove does not run backwards pouring smoke in the opposite direction of the designated intentions of the build. Hope this helps. C-ya. :)
@burlcarey10 жыл бұрын
It has a spring in a cup washer outside the pipe as the rod goes threw both outsiders of the pipe. The flap is in the interior of the pipe. The rod could be spot welded in place. If you were to make one yourself. But the store bought (china made) are so worth the expense to just buy and drill the holes and then thread the shaft through the offset and inline it and then inserting it into the opposite hole on the other side. Never have had seen ever any smoke leak through the holes to the inside. So no worrying about that. I know you'll be very pleased in having control over how hot you wants youtH. stove burning. And the flue damper is the (gas pedal) on any stove that has a pipe for the exhausting of smoke. And you will be adjusting it to learn it on different types of solid fuels. As the damper should be adjusted to achieve a clean smokeless burn every time. On any type of stove. Its all in how the damper is in adjustment FYI. :)

Burl Carey Thanks bud :) I am looking into building one myself because I have not been able to find one made for 3 inch stove pipe yet ,,, as you say ,, I think this and being able to control the stoves air intake, I should be able to safely burn any solid fuel in this little stove :) Tonight I am burning small (1/2-1 inch) coal ,, very hot ,, but it does not last to long ,, I have to re fuel every few hours

Google Navigator Stove Works, you can even talk to the owner by calling him. I have on a few times in the past of several years. As well as meeting up with one of his past employee that travels around having a "tea making time" of social talking and he has them...just order one and it should be in your possession in 2-3days? Then drill two holes or one all the way through to the otherside...and then you'll be set to go. :)

Try wood pellets and either wrap the pipe with silver reflective tape , or get a thicker pipe that wont change color when it gets hot. Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for the info on this stove. I was trying to decide between this Dickinson solid stove and the Tiny Tot Pet stove for my Camper. Ive decided to go with the Dickinson largely because it is stainless and because I can buy it locally. Although the Tiny Tot is well reviewed and cheaper, shipping from the east coast bumps it up about 80 dollars plus they told me it would be a month until they could ship one out! I guess I'm not that patient. Anyway, good info and thanks for the tips as this is exactly what I want to do in my camper. I live in Bellingham and am going to buy the stove and all the pipe components from LFS.

There's a flue pipe damper made for this stove. It might be what's necessary to tune it for wood burning. I saw it on the West Marine website. The product numbers associated with it there are: Model # 8760365 | Mfg # 16-011 .

Why didn't you just return it to Amazon before you mounted it ? The problem with tiny woodstoves is you have to feed them too often so forget about a good nights sleep. Diesel stoves make more sense

Even with seals around door and ash pan it would still be unsuitable for wood burning as the air needs to come in above the fire got efficient wood burning. With bottom entry for air it is impossible to get a good build up of embers and clean combustion.

YOU need to seal the ash box on the 4 sides, on the ash box i sealed the vertical, and on the oven the horisontal and it works great, only fired with wood. Also tryed a barometric damper, AND smoke will fill the room. DONT use your money on that. Part# 16-010: 3” x 7” stainless pipe with barometric. This is what i used, www.homeshop.dk/tilbehor-braendeovne/morso-pakningssat-til-glas.html Use a thin flat sealing then you can use the saftyclip to hold the ash box in place. YOU NEED A carbon monoxide alarm.

It is sad that a company who has been in business so long has cut corners to put a few more cents into their pocket instead of making a good product they knew how to make. You have to be able to control the air inflow or else you will burn up your stove and home someday. A damper without cutting air will do as some have said, smoke you out.

I have many videos about this Dickinson Marine solid fuel stove, Watch them all before you get your panties in a bunch and think I am giving a bad review on a product I am still using for over a year now ,, it just needs a little work to make it work a little safer and better than the way it shows up right out of the shipping box. I would think this stove would work safely and correctly right out of the box without having to tinker with it for over a year now trying to get it to burn in a controlled manner, I figured it out now and it works great ,, I will make new videos soon showing you how I made it work as soon as I can

I agree with some of the other comments, you need a damper.
@wabuminifarm34379 жыл бұрын
I still have not bought one yet,, because when my 3 inch stove pipe starts getting plugged up smoke starts filling the room,, i fear that adding a damper will do the same,, i guess it depends on what i am burning or if the stove has a good door seal ( which it does not) ,, I have to clean my chimney about every week to keep all the smoke going out of my travel trailer ,, I got to keep the fire small, don't over load the little stove,, or you get smoke in your living area ,, or flames going up the chimney,, the best way I found to control the burning fire is to control the air flow going into this little stove, cut the air flow and you cut the flames down,, keep the exhaust free so all the smoke can easily escape.
