Hi shwiggan. You don't know me and I don't really know you. 4 years you posted this video and it changed my life. I became obsessed with Chaplin, and I ended up memorizing this speech and performing it in my eight grade theatre class. The performance went strikingly well, and my theatre teacher ended up calling my principal and vice principal down to hear me do it again. It was a defining moment for me, and gave me much needed confidence, and essentially pulled me out of a severe depression. 4 years later, my performing arts career has exploded, and given me so many wonderful people and experiences in my life. I am attending a college for musical theatre, and I am going to struggle and make a life as an actor. When I think back on what started it all, it was this video, watching it as some punk middle schooler way too late at night. So thank you for shaping my life, and giving me confidence and purpose.

I like deliver this speech daily. I'm a huge fan of Chaplin and will often draw, act, or even dress up like the Tramp. He is a huge inspiration to me and this speech is even more dear to me, not only because it was given to me by the man who inspired my future career, but because it rings what everyone wants and what everyone feels. I, too, aim to help make that change, because I grew up always being told 'be the change you wish to see.' I want to be as Chaplin as much as I can and I hope to start my own comedy troupe someday in hopes to reach peoples hearts with humor. All Chaplin did was cheer up people and he shook the world with laughter and tears. I've also always been inspired by Team Fortress 2 and seeing these two wonderful things clash makes my heart sing. Thanks, Shwiggan

This is one of the greatest speeches of all time, and for good reason. But a detail that some miss is just HOW gutsy it was at the time. Hitler was still coming to power. Not only did Chaplin mock the dictator all throughout the movie, but the style of speaking in this monologue is lifted from Hitler's own speech patterns. He would start out quiet and conversational, then slowly escalate into shouting. But whereas Hitler spewed hatred and violence, Chaplin laughed in his face by speaking about love and peace. He beat the dictator at his own game.

The only thing I hate about this speech is that pretty much every one will listen to it and think "this is so inspirational, amazing" but then carry on living their mediocre lives and feeding the system that promotes it. My challenge to everyone is actually examine the speech and think about what it really means and then ask yourself if you are working towards a world as depicted by Chaplin. Don't just blindly follow what this speech says just because Charlie Chaplin said it, follow it if you believe in it. only then will we all have a chance for a world of Reason, Understanding and love.

Long live Shwiggan for introducing me to this great speech so many years ago, thank you. It's sad as I get older I realise these words are more relevant to the modern day way of life, the world that we live in is a hurtful and cruel place but so long as there are those who hold onto such beliefs, I feel that there is hope for us. Re-edit as of 2022 and still this world has me fearful for our future. Be kind to one another. Small gestures of kindness and love can make such a great impact on someone's life, more than you know.

"I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.... The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. ..... Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!" That is all

I find it amazing that one of the most incredible monologues I’ve ever heard was in a comedy written and directed in the 1940s by a man famous for his work in silent films. It was as if he was just saving all the words he could have said in his career for this single, four-minute speech. What’s more interesting is the fact that this was almost a plea to the people of Germany to awaken to the truths of a country under the rule of a dictator.

To not only schwiggan, but to all of my precious tf2 brothers out there, I am but another player; one who joins in, picks a class, plays for a while, then leaves to either join a game, or return to reality. You may have seen me online, you might haven't. Either way, I want to say thank you. Thank you to all of you brothers who played the games with me when the times have been tough. All of us grow (or have grown) into men day by day, waking up to put an effort into making the day, then log on to Steam for another half an hour, or even several hours, all together playing what we love most. Without your effort, or continued effort, in making this game so god-damn spectacular, who knows what life I could've chose; What life could I have lived in without your support. I've been playing a pretty trash PC pyro since "Meet the Pyro" came out, along with the "Meet the Pyro" update that came along with it. Make fun of me all you wan't, because yes, I have the tendency to W+M1 at times, but who hasn't? C'mon. I remember the days when the puff-and-sting pyro was at it's all time prime. Before the big Axtinguisher nerf, before the degreaser nerfs, when you could puff and sting enemies to death with a swift slide of the mouse wheel. I even remember when the pyro didn't have an airblast mechanic. I've been a long time player of not only Orange Box TF2, but almost 10 years of PC TF2. My road through this game had it's tough times, it's rough moments, to probably some of the best and most heartwarming moments of my life. I can't even count how many games I've played, or even how many servers I've been on, but that doesn't matter. What matters is you guys, the ones I could even call family. Every laugh, ragequit, keyboard slam, or tear I gave to this game was worth it, to live a life I could never experience again. Seeing this video after almost 9 years since its release, I am in tears. Bawling my eyes like a baby over how beautiful this game, and its entire community, is, while being frustrated because of how worn down this game has been over the years of neglect by Valve. So for anyone who has put any effort into playing this game, whether you used to play or are still playing, thank you. Thank you for letting me relive something I can never get back. These tears are for you all.

I made it a priority to listen to this speech everyday( and watch the video), though it is kinda animated, the scenes in it emphasize the reason and target of the speech, which makes it even more beautiful and inspiring. My favorite line of the speech is "You don't hate, only the unloved hate, the unloved and the unnatural." Because of it, I can't see the word hate the same again.

Wow this is something so special yet there are all these silly little videos right next to this even if this is just an animated version it's still a speech, yet feels like so much more. From now on I will never forget this it is beautiful and is something that should be brought up in the world we live in now, so for anyone who really cares enough to read this, remember:"Dictators free them selves, but enslave the people." That is one saying that I will never forget, ever.
