Tim Kruse Its really Corporations buying nyc radio stations and telling them what to play killed nyc hiphop. Cant break new artist from your state if your playing a billboard top 10 every hour. Cant create a new york mainstream spund if all you play on the radio is the hotest nyc artist at the time and then atl music. However thanks to the internet, nyc hiphop has no excuse any more for following the south style. But they are. Maybe from copying rhe south nyc can develop something new from it to call our own

BIG CHACHI although I would agree that 50 didnt kill it, I wouldn't necessarily say that fans always control what's popping and whats not. For example, many new age artists are big because people have come to accept what's big. You know how many people say music is trash, until it keeps getting played and then they start feeling it? 50 Cent changed the game to a more melodic sound it was balanced he had that gangsta shit and melodic shit. He raised the bar on how to make a rap hit in the early 2000's I remember when his debut came out he was the biggest rapper in the world his debut was unlike anything else before it. I'd say he was one of the people who pushed hip hop even more into the mainstream. Everybody knows "In Da Club" even your grandparents did if they ever heard it at least once.

La Flamin Boomin #FuckjcoLe bruh how can you even argue that early mid 2000s wasn’t a bad era? Jay Z brought mafioso rap to an end, biggie was gone, Pac was gone, lollipop rappers were coming up, hip hop was losing its grittiness, most 90s rappers had lost their touch etc. late 2000’s was good that’s why 2010s are great. All them upcoming artist that roca-fella dissed never made it either. Then they mention unity in the south.....Jeezy vs. Gucci, TI vs. Flip (and a bunch of others). Didn't Boosie literally (get charged with) kill the dude that he was beefing with? Jeezy vs. Ross (BMF issues). There were a lot of artists that could have brought it back that were making noise and trying to bring it back 2007-2011, Tru Life, Uncle Murda, French, Max B, Stack bundles, Ra Diggs. Problem was all them dudes got locked or killed except for Uncle murda and French. French the only one that popped off and he sold out. In recent times like you said bobby was the one that should have brought it back. Tekashi kind of did but he's a fraud and is merely an image created by a collective of people.

Jay-Z and 50 Cent killed NYC RapJay-Z vs Nas/Mobb Deep was the first wave in the NYC beefing that ended the relevancy of the city. When Jay retired, 50 Cent vs everybody in NYC was the deathblow, which left the gate open for the South to takeover. Jay-Z started embracing the south rappers; T.I., Lil Wayne, Rick Ross. With Jay-Z running Def Jam, he shelved a lot of New York albums, which is why DMX, LL Cool J and even Budden dissed him

Well a lot of NY rappers on Def Jam got zero promo (Ghostface, Meth, LL Cool J, DMX, etc.) while Kingdom Come was getting all type of promo so that's one point. But I think the up and coming NY rappers could not surprass the cats who came before. Fab is cool, but he ain't Jay!!! Kiss keep it street and is lyrical, but Nas is next level!!! Busta and Fat Joe had hits thru the South run so NY wasn't not getting attention. The NY mixtape rapper of 2000 just didn't make DOPE records for the time. NY producers got neglected and NY DJs started playing all type of South rappers PERIOD!!!

NY had desencion way before 50. That was partly why Eminem said he signed 50 cent. "It was the same beefs and the same crews"- Eminem. 50 cent was a breath of fresh air for Eminem; even B.I.G. mentions this in an interview. Where he says "I thought all these rappers I saw in the magazine's where friends and hanging out together " . He was like(while shaking his head) "It is not like that ". Alliances were already made before 50 got in the game. It was just that alliances got tested when 50 was beefing with JaRule. They need to do more research because their timelines are always off. Mentioning DJ Unk in 2003? They meant 2005/2006 instead of 2003 with like half of the points they were trying to make

MJ Perkins here. CEO of Fenty Entertainment! The culture of New York hip-hop at the striving to wanting to be the "King of New York" created a grab in the bucket syndrome which lead to the demise of an entire culture. And there was hot underground acts that should of come up that yall never did pick up like Mos Def and Talib. Like Showbiz and AG.
@truthentertainment28897 жыл бұрын
50 cent didn't kill NYC hip hop. NYC let hip hop die by follow the Down South trends and not keeping NEw York, New York.. That's what happened...
@laurynjones48456 жыл бұрын
50 snitch did by beefing with every damn body in NYC. And that allowed the south to take over and capitalize that's why down south took over just look at 50 snitch now still problematic as hell.

It's ridiculous to think 50 Cent caused the decline of NY Hip Hop. 50 is right, and Joe to the extent where he rightfully states that NY artists and radio programmers didn't support each other. What's crazy is that they USED to. I remember the mid to late 90s when all the NY rappers stuck together and did features with each other and THAT's what got them hot. At some point that unity stopped and it was BEFORE 50 came to prominence.
@maybesomaybenot8250 Жыл бұрын
After biggie died, all them collaborations suddenly stopped in NY. Only artists that were on the same labels worked together with each other. New York also had more rap beefs than usual at the time so artists eventually had to pick sides which led to artists not working together anymore.

50 was ONE of the larger more complex reasons NY hip hop fell the fuck off in the mid 00's BUT he wasn't the sole reason. There was a lot of unnecessary beef in and out the booth that paralyzed the city! The southern movement was gonna happen REGARDLESS. Too much momentum...
@liveevil2387 жыл бұрын
It's a combination of things, not just 5cent...you got the Labels, radio program director & DJs that played a part in it..
@TheLuw19977 жыл бұрын
How could one of the greatest New York rappers kill NY hip hop?! It died because New York rappers had a standard that was too high for them to stay in the mainstream. Whereas Atlanta rappers just wanted to be put on and made club music. 50 influenced 100's of rappers that we rate today so if anything, he helped keep it somewhat alive. Look at Young M.A. or Casanova or ASAP Ferg. Clearly influenced by 50.

It wasn't 50's fault. People don't even give him enough credit for putting Banks and Yayo on and helping them go platinum (Who are New York artists). Also factor in that hov retired and Nas was underwhelming after ether. The south just took over.
