The Green Bay Packers got off to a cold start to the season but have been surging since their Thanksgiving win against the Detroit Lions. They now travel to the Bay Area to face the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. This raises a question of whether Aaron Rodgers made a mistake leaving Green Bay for the New York Jets. Colin Cowherd explains why the QB should have thought twice before leaving a young Pack team. Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears are on the clock with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and Justin Fields' future remains unclear. One NFL Draft expert believes that the Bears could receive a first-round pick in exchange for Fields. Colin breaks down why Fields is not worth a first-round pick but that Chicago should aim for a second-rounder anyway.

Well I mean when you’re a first time HC and you have an MVP top ten all time QB Aaron Rodgers as your QB..hard to judge if you’re a good coach or not while that is going on. I don’t remember what Colin said, but it’s cool you can come back with the benefit of hindsight and point out when someone who does this for a living and makes millions made a wrong assessment. Hope it made you feel better about your life.

As a packers fan, I wanted Aaron gone 2 years ago. That would have been even better but he stayed one more year and made everybody’s life difficult, including execs, players, fans, the press. This chicken race between him and the front office was draining for everybody, including Davante Adams who should have stayed but left due to the uncertainty with Aaron. Him leaving was the best thing that could have happened. We thank him for his amazing run in GB but it was time to move on. Where he ended up is not our problem anymore. Wish him well and a couple more healthy years for him to enjoy the rest of his career.

Easy to say that now, when you have Jordan Love so far looking like the real deal and a young team that appears up and coming. What if Aaron balled out in NY this year, took the Jets to the playoffs and Jordan was a flop like he looked to be mid-season. In football sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, the Packers have been very lucky for the past 30 years and probably more (at least when it comes to QB). But you're still right though, he wanted it to be his show, with his guys, which he seems to have at the Jets. Best of luck to them next year.

Stop Colin! You're acting like Rodgers had his choice of several good teams and picked the Jets. The reason this trade took so long was because the Jets were the only team bidding for Rodgers and they tried to low ball the Packers. Also Colin, you're also acting like this was Rodgers' choice and his choice alone to leave Green Bay. The Packers were moving on from Rodgers this year. This wasn't Aaron's choice. Rodgers wanted to got to the Niners a couple of years before after they drafted Love, but the Packers weren't interested at that time. Rodger's still might have gone to the Niners this past off season if Purdy hadn't emerged and if the Niners actually had a first round pick to trade. Just because Brady and Stafford had real good teams interested in them doesn't mean Rodgers did. You don't know that he didn't try to get to Denver two years ago either. The Packers had a winning window with Rodgers and they played it out until they felt like Rodgers wasn't doing for them and he still had trade value and Love needed to play. You always frame things to make Rodgers look like the fool, but he didn't have a ton of options. I mean why didn't you give us a list of teams he should have gone to this last off season?

I’ve always thought one of the most obvious differences between Rodgers and Brady even a decade and a half ago, was the “upstairs.” While Rodgers was flashy, bit cocky, loved to do things his way and be a bit different and challenge conventional wisdom. Brady on the other hand fit within that “Patriot way” even when Brady did leave to Tampa, sure Brady could have some cockiness as well, but he was always very smart not as flashy of a player at times, seemed like an easier person to work with as long as you could perform at a high level and be professional.

The important thing is that Green Bay did not make a mistake letting Aaron go. If Green Bay made a mistake, it was keeping Aaron one year too long.

So we are just going to discount The fact that the Jets had a top defense as well? In his career he has had two top five defenses and like you said he is getting older. If he stuck with green bay they most likely would have missed the playoffs again. Yeah there is significant problems on the offense outside of Wilson and Hall but those can be addressed through free agency and draft which the GM should have done the minute Aaron Rodgers trade was finalized

Colin hates Aaron end of story
@nickbrandt5195
@nickbrandt5195 9 ай бұрын
The hate against rodgers is unreal, not just in this video but in all of Colin’s takes against rodgers. He’s one of the best qbs of all time and held green bay up for more than a decade. For years Green bay never backed aaron, made big splashes, or went all in to win. They seemed content with relying on Aaron and always had an eye on the future instead of what they had with Aaron. They also often had awful defenses and had mike mccarthy as a coach who didnt do aaron or the packers any favors.

I can't think for Aaron but I think it probably came down to not having a top 5 defense his entire career, a solid #1 WR right now in Wilson opposed to waiting to see if the rookies panned out and also having a star RB in Hall
@MrDuckskin
@MrDuckskin 9 ай бұрын
That didn't pan out lol. Hall is not as good as Jones. Wilson is no doubt very good, but as a whole the Jets TE and WR groups vs the Packers? Offensive line? Not even close. Even with Rodgers next year Jets just don't have the depth. Even the Jets Defense looks weaker than GB

@@MrDuckskin right. We can say that now that we have seen the season play out but who knew before coming into the season that the Packers WRs were going to do so well? I don't think Brady's decision had anything to do with the slight competition. I think it was more about having receivers who were ready to win, an O-Line that had potential and a great corps on defense.

Rodgers was given no choice, by the time he came out of the darkness, Gutey had moved on. He knew the Jets were interested so it happened. Rodgers chose the Jets because they were the only ones willing to take him. Atlanta dropped out and nobody else seriously inquired. Gutey got what he ultimately wanted, Rodgers gone. He fleeced the Jets.

I don't agree with CC much, but he nailed it by saying AR doesn't have a high football IQ. They did a study of all the players Rodgers wanted to keep that the GM released and the hit rate was like 15%. He wanted to overpay old players out of their prime just because of his personal feelings and not what made football sense. Look at AR choosing Allen Lazard and now he's a healthy scratch owed millions of dollars. He shouldn't be allowed near any front office once he retires.

No, I don't think that he made a mistake nor that he had a choice. He was pretty much spent with us at the end of his tenure. I don't blame him. We had some horrendous playoff losses and he was the scapegoat for so many of them under McCarthy in which he performed at an all-time level (esp. 2012-2016) and the latter half of his tenure was with an ageing team, bad defense coaching and a lack of firepower on offense. It was time to move on for both parties. It's soon going to be time to retire for him as well. The best thing he did was to bring back Tom Clemens for Jordan who is now showing some resemblance to ARod himself (e.g. the backfoot throw into tight coverage against Dallas). The team's rejuvenated now and that's why they are doing good. The playoff inexperience of young players is a blessing at times. That's what he see right now with Green Bay or Houston. An grey wolf at QB wouldn't perform that well with guys in their 20s as a young QB would.
