Love the work you do. You make it look easy and even a layperson such as myself, can vicariously live your experience. By the way, I noticed what I believe to be a turtle (of sorts - I may be incorrectly naming the critter) scampering around to get away from the dozer's blade (around the 35:50 video footage). That was a pleasant surprise. Take care! Again, great work.

That ditch being higher than the field happens when silt drops out when it over flows. Happens with grasswaterways too. You have the waterway, then a ridge on each side and another ditch form on each side. Nice, lotta work, but working on a cure, fixing the cause, just got a lot of really potentially productive to consistently really productive land!!

The waterways around here, that have ditches on each side of the ridges forming the original waterway, are because of water erosion, NOT siltation.

They seemed to run out good. The different equipment you have highlighted makes the channel even more interesting. Field looks great, Farmer Chris should appreciate that and maybe a few more bushels.

The hump you are dealing with is a natural levy. Natural levies form along streams and rivers when they have a flood stage when the water spills out of the ditch. At that point, the velocity of the water drops and coarser sediment will be deposited. Farther back from the ditch the finer sediment is spread out over a large area. Those types of deposits are called overbank deposits.. Most of the soils you are moving are actually overbank deposits from the Ohio River. The reason this seems odd to you is because most of the ditches you deal with in fields are artificial ditches that have not been there long enough to develop a natural levy. Also, most of the ditches have been cleaned out and that spoil has been spread artificially over the fields. This ditch must be a natural drainage that never was cleaned out.

That does look so much better now that you have it graded out, I don’t think you could have asked for better results, I do remember the tree removal vids, you have turned that from a good piece of property to a property worth 3x’s its original value. It may be cam angle or you feathering the blade but at approximately the 19:30 and the 21:30 mark, those pins and or brackets looked as if they were loose and/ or had excessive play in them, but like I say, may have been cam angle or feathering the blade. That case is an awesome machine, especially for that project, thanks for the update young man.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Definitely a great enhancement to your property. Loved the cameo of your field supervisor at 35:54 😂. Looking forward to seeing any future improvements you make on the property. Not sure if it’s my imagination but it seems that the Case dozer moonwalks more that the other dozers you have. Is that real, and if so is it because of the way it’s setup or is it a bit overpowered. Wishing you and your family the best.

Force of friction = coefficient of friction x downward force So the lighter dozer can't push as hard as a heavier dozer since it has less downforce. But it also won't sink out of sight like a heavier dozer, and is easier to transport.

It is funny how today is so different than when I was a kid. Back then the government was supplying support and advice on PLANTING those tree rows to break up the fields in order to stop wind and water erosion. But those were the days of plow and disc in straight lines. Ever seen a city sidewalk with trees planted in them? Trees grow and roots lift the ground even buckling concrete sidewalks. Trees and brush raise the ground but plow and disc settle the ground over time. Your ditch becomes and aqueduct up high. Great out west where you want to water the fields by flooding them. Not so much when you are trying to dry out fields. If you really want to see some big fields go to southern Alberta, Canada. Wide open uninterrupted sea of yellow from horizon to horizon this time of year. I mean those combine rows are miles long but they call them kilometers. If it is not smoky you might see the Rocky Mtns off in the far distance but that is about all. All I could think of is "where are the wind breaks?" But I guess they never got programmed to think that way. However we did have those wind driven dust storms shut down I 55 in Illinois this year right after farmers turn the fields and caused those massive pile up wrecks. Flip a coin.

Mike, I see opportunities in the future for you. Not that you ever have spare time, but you are in the perfect business to flip a farm. Your area has a lot of rolling treed farms. Take one that has decent soil but has a limited number of trees that can be removed, you could buy it for recreational non productive prices and turn it into tillable acres with income to justify higher prices. Maybe a farm that is coming off a ten year Crp program with many small trees or a wet farm that needs tile. I have bought several farms and the opportunity will hit you out of nowhere, but you will be ready. Good for you and Jenna buying this farm. Ten to twenty years from now, you will be smiling that you pulled the trigger, just like now, when you have major economic improvements. Enjoy your content and banter, Thanks
