About 6 or 7 years ago in Hong Kong, an anesthesiologist pumped carbon monoxide into an exercise yoga ball (which he also created a slow leak) and left it in his wife's Mini Cooper. His wife drove their daughter to school in a rainy morning (so they kept the windows closed) and both daughter and wife passed out and died on the road. For the longest time, the police did not know what had happened. They suspected the Mini Copper malfunctioned and created carbon monoxide that killed the two passengers. After repeated tests on the car, they did not find anything. Then they carefully looked at everything and the deflated yoga ball turned out to be the weapon.

Hi, might want to check that statement. The average molar mass of dry air is 28.96 g/mol. CO has molar mass of 28.010 g·mol. CO is slightly lighter than air, but it mixes quite easily with it. If CO is in a hot state, it will rise.

I thought the same thing. I once owned a house in Utah that had the furnace in the basement. My kids' rooms were downstairs in the same basement. It's a common practice in Utah build homes with an open basement then to remodel and add rooms later after purchase. The previous owner had done that. Upon purchasing the home I saw the possibility of carbon monoxide building up down there as the furnace was gas. I installed CO detectors in all the bedrooms. My wife wanted to balk at the purchase because of the cost. About two years later those detectors alarmed because the furnace vent was not working as it should have been. My wife never complained about the price of those detectors again.

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is heavier than oxygen (O₂). Here's why: The molecular weight of CO₂ is approximately 44 g/mol (12 for carbon + 16x2 for oxygen). The molecular weight of O₂ is approximately 32 g/mol (16x2 for oxygen). Since CO₂ has a higher molecular weight, it is denser and heavier than oxygen under the same conditions.

I'm frequently surprised how often people are convicted even when reasonable doubt clearly exists. In this case, police didn't even prove how the crime was committed, which seems like a necessary element for a conviction. No matter how reasonable doubt is explained to a jury, they usually end up using a standard much closer to a preponderance of the evidence.
@michaelwaninger31552 күн бұрын
It depends how they perceive (or feel about) the defendant. If they like the defendant reasonable doubt becomes no doubt allowed. If they don't like the defendant then, we'll he might have done it becomes guilty. This man was odd, kinda creepy, and said bad things about his wife in his journal (which probably shouldn't have been allowed in) plus he had an affair, although years ago(again probably shouldn't have been allowed in). When the jury doesn't like you you have to prove your innocent.

Thank you for your analysis as always, Dr. Grande. The Cosa Nostra have a saying - 'silence is a friend that will never betray you'. If someone's contemplating this kind of spousal separation clearly it's best not to keep a bunch of written notes describing one's thoughts regarding said separation. RIP to the wife - Mark probably could have used better legal representation - prior to reaching the end of the video, I thought for sure the jury would have found him not guilty - even though as you opine, he was likely guilty in reality.

They'll vote someone guilty because they aren't religious and they are. They'll vote someone guilty based off the worst evidence and just how the defendant looked. And tons of other crazy things. Our country has slid way too far into burn the witch territory. Just recently I ran into a guy who was all pissed off. He served on jury duty and was an alternate. The jury voted not guilty. Even he wasn't even sure the crime occurred let alone the defendant did it. Yet he felt the guy should have gone to prison anyway. Just because it was a heinous crime he was accused of. Anesthesiologists are the best profession that's ever happened to me. So thankful when I had both my sons. But wow the snoring...I wish he didn't write that but a lot of people snore I guess. I asked an ex if i snore, I think he lied to spare my feelings. I think I snore sometimes and not all the time though. May she RIP I think he married her for practical reasons and the initial practical realities of 1. Academic mutual aspiration and interest 2. Financial burden relief while in school 3. Reaching academic and home achievement goals Felt like love at the time. I suppose there is nothing wrong with those things actually except when there was little chemistry apart from those other things the 70 lbs was just too much for him. Honestly I feel the practical remedies his match brought to the table would be worth it.. But I don't think I'd sleep with someone 70 lbs heavier. So glad I'm not married....thats too much. I think I could love them still as a friend but not romantically. Im not sure I'd even pretend to be attracted I'm more concerned as to why. I think I'd be more focused on why my spouse gained 70lbs after marrying me. Once I figured that out we could move from there I can't live with a slob. She's not able to speak for herself. I would clean but I wouldn't marry someone I felt was gross. I've dated some nice guys and I'm glad it didn't work out in hindsight because their habits were just super messy. I wouldn't have minded domestic work back then but cleaning after the two guys I'm thinking of would have been grueling work, especially with children. No, they weren't gross. It's hard to explain.. But those two would have been difficult to live with domestically.

Get a nice dice shredder to make 'release confetti' or into strips if you want to use it for shipping/packing. Ya know, everything has a multi purpose use 😉 The physical and tension release of SHREDDING your 'issues' is actually a very 'freeing' feeling. You can use random pieces of junk mail or previously used unneeded paper and write your problem(s) onto it in whatever order or mess you like and then SHRED IT !!! Interesting that the state didn’t carry out surface swabs. I’m fairly confident that they would’ve highlighted aromatic hydrocarbons residue that would not be present in natural gas combustion by products but would be if it was from automobile fuel -that would’ve been a smoking gun if you excuse the pun that would have confirmed his guilt further and removed, any doubters?

observe that air is a word for a mixture of gases. observe that exhaust gas is not the same as exhaust air. observe that carbon monoxide stratifies, bifurcates to the bottom of a column. i bet he knew this and that once cooled the carbon monoxide would flow in a low reynolds number kind of way down a stairwell into a sump that was the basement. they teach you about the behavior of various anesthetic compounds and how they pool. co2 will drop right out.

While automotive CO has a distinctive odor, most H/V/AC-adjacent industries introduce a chemical agent which adds an artificial and very unplesant "CO-smell" to the gas for safety purposes. The smell is close to automotive exhaust so that people make the correct association and get the hell outta there.
@219cem2 күн бұрын
Some of this is correct, but a lot of it is incorrect, and I think it’s super important to give correct information on this. CO is the byproduct of combustion in both cars and gas utilities, but it has no smell. There is something called mercaptan added to natural gas to give it a very distinct smell; it is specifically designed to smell like literally nothing else so that people associate that smell specifically with a gas leak. The mercaptan is only in there to help someone detect a gas leak so you don’t blow your house or block up, but this is totally separate and has nothing to do with combustion or the formation of CO. The ONLY way to detect CO is with a CO detector since it is completely odorless and undetectable otherwise. Also, the smell of natural gas smells nothing like auto exhaust.

Beyond reasonable doubt? 'We know he killed her, but we have no solid evidence how he did it.' Surely if he had done this he would have removed the fan and towel and then when asked how it could be that his wife died and he did not, he could shrug and say, 'Lucky I guess.' Jury trial is a terrible system. 12 people with no training in the law, full of their own biases, very often coming in with pre knowledge of the case, being played by two lawyers who are thoroughly trained in both the law and adversarial argument, what chance do we have of getting a just verdict? Very little I would suggest.

Once again, dear reader, we have come to that the difficult portal that sends our loved ones and ourselves to another "place." As was noted earlier in these reflections, "the bright light that was Kathy Wangler has dimmed in this Earthly realm." As Dayle Haddon (Max Factor, L'Oreal, Estee Lauder, Revlon), a wonderful bright light in this dank, dark realm provides a message for us. We must believe in the hidden glory that was framed by Kathy Wangler and all the good buying she did to support the American economy. Always trust the timing of these things, as Haddon taught. "Our coming, as our going, remain shrouded in mystery." Thank you.
