I had a T3-T4 disc compression which gave me nerve pains, and it took me a while to figure out how to solve it.

Scoliosis is certainly a complex issue with many different factors which lead to it. Of course there are biological anomalies such as different leg length or particular joint/socket interactions which can impact things further up in the chain.
However, the most you can do is invest in your own health: A proper mattress, a good desk & chair, and good footwear.
Additionally, good habits, regular exercise, strengthening and alignment training (such as yoga, light weightlifting, etc) can be excellent.

Your videos helped me get back into barefoot shoes after I gave up on them before. No hippie yapping, no shoe salesman bullshit, just real actual advice. Since then I'm feeling stronger, I'm understanding my body more and feeling better. Also I binged your blog this summer and it's really inspiring for me. So thank you for being real and keep up the good work👌

Dude, thx for sharing and your insights. Always inpiring to see someone to recover and get even stronger after such "inconveniences". Been lucky myself to have only had the likes of anckle, heel and achilles aches... knee, hip, back, shoulder pain. Now all mostly gone. And, oh, it is just such a joy now to run. Find some nice empty dirt-road outside town, take the shoes off and just run. Brilliant. Oh yeah. Hmm. So good. And always restores my calm. Hey, so thank you James for being one of the reasonable, normal, down to earth barefoot proponents.

Just got this notification. I have got SO DAMN MYCH I could say about this. But YES. I haven’t figured it out fully but I wouldn’t have been able to know what “right” felt like in my body if I hadn’t forcefully gone barefoot. It’s just sad I’m forced to wear crap shoes that make me loose connection to the rest of my body and bring all my imbalances back because they think shoes are more important than my bodily equilibrium

Thanks you for sharing your experience!! I have scoliosis too and since 3 years also Fibromyalgia with a lot of muscle pain in my shoulders and lower back. How long did it take to fix your scoliosis by walking barefoot?

Hello James ! Thank you for your advices and experience. Same I have scoliosis but not specific pain and I just started barefoot exploration. I don't feel pain switching directly, but I'm walking a lot in the city on asphalte and concrete, do you think I should take care of something or change my way to walk ? I'm feeling the floor of course, no pain but muscle sore a bit. Also, what is your opinion about the Lems brand ? I'm thinking getting some 9to5 model. All the best ! Thank you
@JamesFromCanada

changing waling technique not necessary - just walk naturally and don't think about it! Start slowly - especially for jogging or running - you can certainly strain muscles inadventantly Lems makes good shoes! Personally I prefer vivobarefoot (thinner sole, better build, lighter) but lems is a decent choice!

I have a question regarding soccer. If i were to switch to barefoot shoes. What soccer cleats would be recommended especially if I were to play on grass. Not sure what would work especially since most cleats are narrow?

i made a guide to the best barefoot soccer shoes here: canadianomad.com/best-barefoot-soccer-football-shoes/ tbh yeah cleats are really tough. I would go for Mizunos - they have one of the widest footbeds and made of leather so they'll stretch overtime and be the best

Hi James, lovely backyard. I myself transitioned to barefoot running because I started getting shin splints. This helped, but it did not solve my problems. I still get shin splints with relatively short mileage per week. And it is frustrating cause I want to run, but I feel I cannot anymore without pain. I would highly appreciate if you toss some wisdom on the shin splints. Thanks and keep the spirits high!

Cannot wait to see it! I'm a recreational runner. I usually run 5-10k sometimes 20. I prefer trail, but more often I run on pavement. Nothing too serious just to get some cardio in. Thanks!

Hi! I have scoliosos just like you showed in the photo. And I wore insoles in my shoes for 3 and a half years, but I am not cured. Just that my left foot is 1cm shorter that the right one - before it was 1,5cm shorter and there seems to be improvmement. BUT, scoliosis is still there. How did you do it? I tried some exercices, nothing worked ...

I am a busdriver for about 10 yrs now, so doing a lot of sitting. Due to shitty chairs I have been shifting my sitting position a lot and noticed the last 2 years my growing back discomfort. Well, I have scoliosis now. Looking for a solution, stretches, excercises and such to get it better. I have always been a runner though and been into barefeet running for about 5/ 6 years now. Ive done 3 half marathons now on my Vibram toeshoes and never looked back from regular running shoes where I had injuries on the regular. But anyways, looking for any advice at all. Cheers.

How do you know the barefoot transition made the difference in your scoliosis? And do yiur feet overpronate anymore?

interesting. i have scoliosis too. But my orthopaedist said I should wear orthopaedic insoles.
@JamesFromCanada

How much $$$ do they get from the orthotics they want to sell you! Depends - is one leg actually shorter or longer than the other? Is your spinal health based off poor foot strength? Too many factors for me to diagnose you over the screen, but returning to natural is always a great first step!

Hi! Thanks for your video! I have a question. I use barefoot shoes for 1 and a half year. I get rid of knee pain. I still have a little bit of back pain I think due to I'm a student ad I study a lot on the desk. A problem that I was trying to get rid of was the hallux valgus, but it doesn't get better. I try toe speacer in silicon, a rigid splint, massage before going to bed. I think nothing help. Have you any suggest? (Sorry for bad English)
@JamesFromCanada

hallux valgus can also be genetic so don't worry too much about it if it cannot be corrected! Let time do its thing and don't stress :)
