A difference of 328 ft-lbs of energy is definitely no joke. However, if my math is correct, that's still "only" a 29% increase in energy vs. an 88% increase in barrel length. Imho, it's just not worth it. 300 Blk's sweet spot seems to be somewhere between 7 to 11 inches. EDIT: let's start a gofundme to get this man a good slow-mo camera! It'd be well worth the investment!

My 300 build uses a 10.5 and I am quite happy with it. Enough barrel to get supers up to speed, short enough to run a can without issue, and short enough to keep subs subsonic. It really is quite ideal.

@@ToolsandTargets well, with all the craziness and the ATF going nuts, I was thinking about a 16". I reload, and the prospect of a new project really interests me. Down the line I plan on doing .223/5.56 case conversion to 300 blk so I can load my own cheaply. I dig the nerdy details of all of that, so it sounds like a fun time to me. What can I say? Go with an 8” barrel. You will not be disappointed. It’s a different world then with a 16” I use my 8” with a 308 suppressor The suppressor is 7” so I’m at 15” overall. However, I only use it with subsonic loads. In the house it’s supersonic and so easy to maneuver around corners. BTW the ATF garbage is still in limbo and not a law. They can’t pass laws. How would they know you have a brace or used one in the house? It pops off in 3 seconds or less. We need to get past this nonsense and start taking out rights back. Enough is enough.

For a SBR/Pistol ~10.5”, v-max 110s @ 2150-2250 fps are ideal for home protection. You are getting the energy of a 20” 556 in a short handy package. 300 BLK shines with these. I’d recommend to anyone building or buying a 300 BLK, don’t build it around subs, you should be having this type of load in mind first. My gun was unfortunately built to run subs, and these light fast bullets give it problems, just way over gassed, and I stepped up the buffer weight. It will get worked out, but I’d much rather be running these light supers than any other load.

Great advice. I built mine on a 16 inch barrel for hunting. It gives me more velocity at distance. It also allows me use a 200 yard zero with the 110 Vmax. @ the muzzle I'm 1.5 inches low(obviously), 3.5 inches high at 100 yards and zeroed at 200. Anything out to 200 yards I can put the rounds in a fist sized area.

Nice effects on the gel, but even just based off energy a 14.5" or 16" shooting .300 sabre black tip is a SOLID medium game hunting rifle out to 150 yards, maybe a bit more, & a fighting rifle further out than that. And in an 8.5" to 10.5" it makes for an excellent home defense/CQB/property defense/vehicle AR for dealing with threats properly within 100 yards i'd say. Much better choice than a typical PCC for the weapon size consideration unless you're shooting some really hot, fast & expensive underwood/g9/NovX/civil defense ammo...

A PCC give a sense of false security as well as a total waste of TIME in comparison to a 300 AAC build. I had to settle for a 7.5 in my "home defense" acquisition. I will change out the barrel "maybe"...to an 8.6 OR even a 9 if I can find it. With a can, the length won't matter. OH, btw, I have a carbine-length 300 AAC as well. With PSA making 300 AAC under their IAAC ammo division, shooting 110 to 125gr is only 2 to 3 bux more a box than 55gr 5.56...(11.95 for 125 AAC)...I almost bought an extra 20 inch upper in 223 Wylde BUT decided to skip the 223/556 bandwagon for the forseeable future. My next acquisition will most likely be an AR10 in 308 in a 20 inch barrel. OH, btw, I paid for the Bear Creek 7.5 upper/basic pistol lower with shipping and FFL...Just under 330 bux!

It's kind of disappointing that we didn't get all of the 100-yard readings, but out of the 8-inch barrel, we got a 3-round average of 1880 feet per second at 100 yards for an average kinetic energy of 863 energy foot pounds. At 75 yards, we see a 5-shot average velocity of 1949 feet per second for an average kinetic energy of 928 energy foot pounds. And at 50 yards, we're seeing an average velocity of 2020 fps for an average Ke50 of 996 fpe. The 16-inch barrel gives us better numbers, of course, but also fewer data points at 100 yards with a 2-shot average of 2180 fps and 1181 fpe. Our 75-yard figures are 2215 fps and 1198 fpe. And at 50 yards, we're seeing 2296 fps for 1287 fpe.

I shoot hogs in Texas so I've never owned anything chambered in 300 Blackout or had any desire to own one because of lack of velocity to bullet weight, the 110 grainers always seemed like the "sweet spot" for super rounds though. But, I tell you what, that was pretty dang impressive and would be great for home defense in a short barrel configuration, and the 16" with those speeds and performance would actually be viable for shooting hogs. If I owned an AR rifle or pistol chambered in 300 Blackout I would be buying all the 110 grain Saber ammo I could afford to stock. Hell, now I might even consider building an AR rifle and pistol in 300 Blackout just to shoot that ammo and try out on hogs. Good test Tools, thank you.

There's no 2 ways around it, it will always be more expensive to shoot than cheap 5.56 ammo if for no other reason than you are literally sending more lead down range. That said, 5.56 is the only centerfire rifle cartridge I've found that's cheaper to shoot than the 300 BLK. Premium ammo is expensive in every caliber, but there several budget friendly 110gr options on the market which also have excellent terminal performance for defensive applications.

I can’t use my $55/box (20 rounds per box) animal instinct rounds from Liberty to train with or zero with. I spent 4 rounds zeroing my dot with the animal instinct because that’s what I use for home defense but I’ll be switching to the 110gr Sabre on my 12” 300 blk. Thank You. I use Both .300BO w/ 10.5” and 16” and also 16” 5.56 and been using the same ASC Black tip ammo. 75gr in 5.56 been best Groups plus slight more penetrating but AAC has just came out w/ 125gr Black tip. So hoping that weight and velocity from my go to 10.5” creates a great Do all w/ more penetration and good shallow expansion on entry out to 100yds for FLA deer. Thanx again for the Content. You literally use most of the Calibers and Ammo manufacturers so great Data for me. TNoutdoors9 was a wealth of information and your the Newwer version especially w/ the doppler for past Muzzle distance. Maybe the Newwwer Hornady CX 110gr all copper vs. Barnes TTSX 110gr please

Pick your poison as far as barrel length, one well placed shot is gonna get it done! And just FYI someone had said that they talked to AAC at shot show and they responded that Hornady is manufacturing the Black Tip Projectile. So you are correct in saying that these are black tip VMAX because they most certainly are.

Tools - I'm in with a late question/recommendation. Could you add a close up of the cartridge head - primer after firing to your videos and perhaps make a comment on what pressure signs you see ? It would add useful information for those of us who are reloaders and would only add a few seconds to the videos. Looking at the fired primer is almost as useful as looking at the recovered bullet, to me at least. For rounds that seem loaded pretty hot for caliber (like this one) it would be really useful. As a for instance, most Buffalo Bore stuff I've shot and looked at is pushing it more than the big name offerings like Federal - Speer - Hornaday. It shows at both ends - in bullet performance and case head.

I am a .300 person, and if I get a chance will do a .300 PRC, but have a 10.5 .300BLK, and I am with your, I do not like the .223, and I think that there will be some more advances in powder and this will help the short case of the .300BLK and yield a few more hundred FPS. I love this gun, But I think I need a new barrel and Upgraded at that. Again, Good test, Thank you !

So I happen to get some of these recently to sight in and test a new 10.5 build. Accuracy potential is high out of my build. Bit what was super interesting. I shot one round on a gong at 50 yards. 3/8 AR500 targets. It gouged a divet the size and depth of half a big sweet pea. More damage to my AR500 than M855 by far. Twice the damage. That's why I'm here thought they might be AP or something. Will hopefully give them a pig or deer test in the morning. Not bad for budget priced ammo.

@@ToolsandTargets good stuff! I'll probably buy the box just for the novelty if nothing else. Looking forward to the test though, always appreciate your videos. On another note, have you tested the Critical Duty 135gr +P or HST 124/147gr since you switched to using the cloth barrier? I don't think so and I know that barrier has made a couple otherwise nice looking rounds crap out. Either way thanks again for the work you put in for these videos 👍🏻

@@investigativeoutcomes9343looking at the results froom the video, 1900-2200 fps seems to be the "sweet spot" for frag-spansion (balancing that great initial energy dump with enough weight retention to still get some good penetration). If you can "mass-up" to drop into that velocity range, it stands to reason that you could improve BC/ sectional density and increase energy at impact while retaining that good fragmentation:expansion balance. Velocity may be king, but it's not the only royal in the court.
@investigativeoutcomes9343
@investigativeoutcomes9343 10 ай бұрын
1900fps muzzle velocity = not fast enough at 200 yrds. 110 grains is already twice as heavy as m193, so all that is needed now is velocity.@@prelude2tube

I usually use 110g Remington White Box HP's out of my 16" Ghost Precision 300bo Upper with my Deer & Hogs. A buddy gave me a few boxes of those Black Tips 110g & I smoked all 4 of my Deer last year using them. I found pieces of that bullet all over the place in those deer on heart shots. Dropped em dead before they hit the ground at 60 to 100 yards & extremely accurate! My Hogs do the same, drop like a rock & I have a ton of 250-320lb pecan & acorn eat'n Porkers out here on my Property in SE Texas. Headshots with zero pass thru. They'll blow a hell of a hole in a Deer. Seems to do about the same or maybe a tad better than V Max🤟

Looks like PSA is going to disrupt market prices on ammo just like they have done with their firearms side of house. Amazing quality firearms and from what I've seen so far, amazing quality ammo for significantly less than competitors are pricing. Will definitely be buying a few boxes of this stuff to run in my PSA 8". My can is in ATF jail for who knows how much longer but even when I'm running it with the can I'll take this over subs for home defense all day every day and twice on sunday. Subs might be fun to shoot but they cant match the performance of these aac black tips

Great video. Great round. Would you consider doing a test on the Sabre Blade 125gr 300blk. Preferably out of those same barrels. I’m thinking the heavier bullet and slightly less velocity would cause the round to hold together better and more penetration

300 Blackout burns all it's powder from 9" - 9.5". So, you may not be getting the full potential out of the 8.5 inch barrel... But, it looks pretty damn good from my vantage point! It would take a deer, or a criminal. Now, the 16 inch barrel is really hitting the power. You got way better speed, and power, on a full burn and longer dwell time. Its impact force was immediate and massive! This would drop a deer or criminal, in their tracks!
@chrissewell1608

It would be an interesting test, to see the impact differences, with a wide variety of barrel lengths. All while using the same round. Ie. 8.5", 10 or 10.5", 12", 16" even an 18" barrel! Ya might need to call in some friends for that one!?
