This is why Blizzard's games went to shit. It turns out the reason why it's seemed like Blizzard don't know wtf they're doing for the last few years is because they did in fact not know wtf they were doing, and their current team is literally re-learning the same lessons in how to design a good game now that the older team was learning ~20 years ago.

The reroll system sounds like rerolling Riven mods in Warframe: Potentially very powerful or profitable, but annoying because of the large stat pool compared to the small pool of desired stats, and the reroll resources get expensive or boring to grind.

in many way, the skills in this game felt like a downgrade from d3. d3 runes made it feel like you had like 50 skills to choose from. (d3 was my first arpg, so my perspective is a bit skewed. i always loved it. it's what i play when i want to play a diablo game now.)

Remember the saying "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey?" Diablo 4 has no journey and the destination is shit. You spawn into the game, immediately drop into some random plot of land you don't care about. Done. Just grind... Meanwhile how many of you have fond memories of traversing the land in Diablo 2? Even though everything was randomly generated it had a looooot more character than "hand crafted" open world in Diablo 4. I don't even know where I am most of the time in Diablo 4. I don't care about this world. Characters don't mean shit to me. Bosses don't mean shit to me. The land itself don't mean shit to me. There is not a single enemy in the game that means shit to me. It's all just a soulless grind devoid of meaning. And what for? So that the number goes from 1 to 100?....

You don't have to be attached to the same game all the time, or just one game.

I like to think of levels being like weight classes in any sort of combat sport. For most games, ~5 levels should basically be a weight class. It's not unrealistic that a skilled fighter could fight above their weight class (~5 levels), but going 3-4 classes up (~15-20 levels)? No. It shouldn't necessarily be impossible (with, say, a huge time investment or incredible luck), but it shouldn't be something that can be done solo easily by even the most skilled players. Realistically, it shouldn't be worth the effort most of the time, aside from the prestige of it. (This is just my philosophy on game design. And the numbers are just examples, not absolute numbers that must apply to every game/genre.)

I think many would agree, it’s usually how things have been in any game. Hence enemies being red or ??? In WoW for example. It makes sense, being able to do lvl 55 stuff at 30 is wild. You couldn’t do that in the previous installments afaik. Only time you could in D3 is if you already had a ton of paragon

Diablo 2 had rare items and a currency system to trade for rare items. Which means getting a really rare item is almost always exciting because you can use it to improve your character by either equipping said item or trading it for a rune that will help you get stronger

I really like the tempering and codex. Also i didnt feel like i had to follow a meta lvling build. But around lvl 65 you really start to realize its the same. Once the min maxing starts it gets that same feel. Trying to grab a certain poece of gear still feels the same. Overall i like it

they have a "lucky hit" system in raid shadow legends, its a tier 6(end game) skill to unlock, it has a 60% chance to deal extra dmg based on a % of the target's max hp, its pretty much the meta for late game because the % is usually pretty high, its like 4% on bosses with millions of hp when average dph is like 2% worth of that same boss's hp

I dropped it and I'm playing s4 Necro, and the first that I notice is that now I have so much better equipment. And bosses die so quick that I can't see all their patterns, they just melt in seconds lol. Its mostly you having better gear and affixes way earlier than in the past seasons. If you did helltide you get rewarded with the bags for reputation and can get crazy good items. Got my first unique item at level 19. Also gear has now mostly better stats.

13:00 if you have been grinding this game since it came out every season, you WILL feel burned out by this season bc you have done the tedium and grind when it was harder. Ofc it’s going to be “boring” because it’s resetting the baseline for the grind and buildcrafting. This is the start of something new, allowing for more difficult content next season and even more dynamic builds with seasonal artifacts as well. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes. I will say I like the armor from the season pass though I just wish there were some more abilities that felt “demigod” themed, whether dark or light, but the vampiric aspects are still so good and really vibe well with the unawakened armor set from this season journey. I wouldn’t be opposed to aspects that alter the damage or animations of your abilities too, like making illuminations with shadow or celestial light effects to your blood necro or fire sorc. Or just give us holy damage type.

The class devel (adam Jackson) in interviews said they want to keep the base skill tree accessible but add more diversity through other places. Tempering is a big start, and he talked about expanding through the paragon more. Paragon glyphs that have options to augment skills like you describe could be a cool way to do that.

I haven’t seen his interviews, and that makes sense from a developmental standpoint, but something blizzard always seems to have a problem with is taking risks with their content. They like to polish everything until it’s no longer sharp before they release it, not really giving us an edge to cling to.

Ultimately, the sameyness of the loop has to do with the nature of the genre. ARPGs have a limit, but where they need to expand are Bosses, random elements in the game, dungeon variety and room layout orientation variety. This itemization update will lay a foundation to make those changes.

The first boss will insta die to a level 30 necro with no build but high damage weapons and some summons. The 2nd capstone (level 70 dungeon) is easily soloable as a necro at level 48-55 with like I said. NO build setup, just a high damage weapon and any summons.

I just came back to the game since playing in season one and it feels much better, horse feels good, less stupid herbs to collect, I'm still dirty about the platnium battle pass though how they make it just enough to not renew each season. And the amazing cosmetics are all bought, which they said wouldn't happen. But the game is much better since launch

I'm the exact opposite on the cosmetics. All the dropped gear transmogs look way cooler than 99% of the cash shop transmogs. Somehow every clothing skin has looked like dogshit from the battlepasses to the shop. A couple of the weapons look cool, but thats it

Me and my bro have just started playing D4 because he has it game pass and we're doing duo Necromancer (Minon and Sever build atm) i dont play ARPG's for the competitiveness, mostly just for the story and some of the end game content before moving on - we're playing WT2 and blasting through stuff and eagerly awaiting WT3+ to really put ourselves to the test. Actually reinstalled D3 and D2 to play while he's offline so i dont spoil D4 storyline haha

I remember the Devs said they wanted D4 to very casual gamer friendly, and cater mostly to them, yet, still have stuff for the hardcore (not the game mode) players who love to grind hard and heavy. They felt that the casual gamers were going to be a big part of the player base this time around. Instead of the players who eat, sleep, breathe, and practically live in D4.

The highest praise I can give Blizzard is that Season 4 is a step in the right direction, but we have a ways to go. They need to rework the Skill Tree and Paragon Board. The fact that I have to use Maxroll to know exactly how to build an endgame class in a convenient amount of time is a killjoy.

I've been enjoying the new season, but the low level content is just too easy. To get a real challenge, you're often seeking stuff that is 20 to 50 levels above you, especially if you are tuning your leveling gear at all. However, it does allow you to seek out higher level content and mostly rewards you for it, so it's workable. Those that want a challenge can seek it. Those that just want to feel OP, rolling over their level's content can do that as well. But yeah, the level 10 to 70 content all needs a bit of a buff.

Loot has always used its names as a "tiering" system. Rare is really just "normal" item and it's this way in damn near every arpg. Legendaries and Uniques are considered the "rare" drops, and I feel like that's fine.

For me, it’s not “D4 bad” it’s just simply that the game was fine, not great, the first play through. These changes aren’t changing what you do in the game, and the gameplay just isn’t that enjoyable. I feel like they made a swing and a miss on how the classes feel to play, and no amount of tweaking the number of monsters I kill, what an item has for stats, or whether my horse can run or not, is going to fix that fundamentally for me the game is boring to play…and that boredom stems from how the classes and game looks/feels at its base.

Pros: 1. QoL changes are fantastic, 2. Loot is much easier to understand (could use more complexity in the future), 3. More density = more fun. 4. Loot that drops with greater affixes = Dopamine hit (feels good to drop loot) Cons: 1. Game is too easy only real challenge is late game pit (no leaderboards or any kind of reward system for progressing farther into pit). 2. Game is boring (Core problem right now generator/spendor gameplay sucks and no diverse types of content that really challenges the player) 3. Skill twigs (way too simple need a lot more varying skills and skill add-ons for all characters)

The thing is with leveling in this game when you play a melee character (what is not recommended btw) is that the enemies get stronger with levels. I was unlucky and did not get any gear and played the game for fun and ran around and was doing stuff and I got punished for that.

Why they don't just follow on from the format of Diablo 2 I will never know. God tier itemisation, with plenty of items/runewords that 'enable' certain builds. Addictive as hell looking for gear. Great skill system. Awesome for theory crafting. Brilliant atmosphere. Although there's bugger all to do with a fully built character which is a shame. With D4 it's also the little things that bug me. I hate the feedback text that pops up in combat, the UI looks messy as hell compared to D2 as well. And where are my O's with crosses in them? Diablo 1/2's font is legendary, why did they throw that out?

D4 doesn't have a good end game because blizz doesn't know how to design one. The campaign and questing however are actually good, aesthetically amazing and mechanically the lower level combat seems to fit what the original intent for the game was. Just play it casually when you're in the mood and let it go beyond that, it'll never be a long term game.

The reason the bosses early on being a joke isn't an issue in my opinion is that all we really want each season is to farm the endgame. Hell, I wouldn't be mad if the season gave us a "skip to world tier 4" option at this point. Im definitely enjoying the game now, the gear does feel meaningful and understandable, not having to read a each affix carefully to see what it does. Im also an enjoyer of the shared helltides,if people forget the dev's said the gear from the iron wolves caches will be giving you gear for a specific build, for me its a weareolf build with lacurate and bloodhowl and pulverize. It gave me a unique that made my werewolf form my true form and made bloodhowl a shout that is shared among other players and pulverize creates wide shockwaves in front of you. Its a lot of fun

I think it's a huge improvement overall. - Leveling is way easier and much faster. - Itemization is way more straightforward and generally better. - Looting generally gives you less garbage and more useful items. I wish there was a little more to the seasonal mechanics though, like the Seneschal in Season 3 and the Vampiric Powers in Season 2, there's really no special flare to this season. It's just helltides and tempering.

Yea, I like it much, much more than the launch, but I still don't like it nearly as much as POE or D2 so far playing as a Werewolf is very fun but yea the loot feels much better & it doesn’t feel like well a chore to play I don't really know what they did to loot but it feels much better. Every time I see a D4 video I just cannot understand why Blizzard does not take the D2 itemization, take the Last Epoch crafting system, make a good mix of both of them, simplify it to fit into the overall D4 target audience and just be happy. So.. its better- Its easier to gear up, but thats a good thing for trying/switching builds. The codex doubles down on making it easier.. but in order to push the Pit, youre probably going to need to find the gear with 2-3 buffed affixes, youll then need to land your tempers without running out of attempts, then you gotta masterwork- its a satisfying loop to push min/maxing and push into higher tiers while playing a variety of content to gather needed materials. Until you have every piece at 3 enhancements and you can beat max tier Pit- youre not technically done. Thats enough endgame for anyone that plays less than 20hrs a day. The rest of yall need to touch grass if you think theres 'no endgame'

1.5 hours isn't enough. once you hit the 6-7 hour mark you see the monotony of the game and how boring of a grind it is. And that's with several nerfs already to the amount of xp. They also made the gear way to simple now. It was definitely too many options before but it didn't need that drastic of a nerf. At least during the long grind, every now and then, you'd get an upgrade. Now it's hours and levels of just boring. Especially with no season mechanics. POE 2 needs to hurry up and release.
