Most artist get annoyed by being called a rapper because most of them don’t respect and value rap. Smino actually loves rap and acknowledges that real rap music has more depth and craftsmen-ship than every other genre. A lot of people only see rap as a fun genre, where being a vulgar thug is the highest honor. A lot of modern rappers wanted to be singers but they aren’t vocally talented enough to do so, so they rap because it’s the only genre that doesn’t rely on singing correctly. I’m not knocking anyone, but I think the disconnect is that most of these rappers never wanted to be rappers.
