Thank you for your Cristobal Colon series! I have two family lines suspect in my tree for Christopher Colon ancestry. The first is my ancestor Eufemia Colón de Bonilla, born about 1740 in Ponce, Puerto Rico and she died on 31 Mar 1803 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Eufemia married my ancestor Juan Cintrón who was the son of Sargento Juan Cintron from Coamo and Doña Ángela Colón. Eufemia parents were Juan Andrés Colón de Bonilla and Claudina de Lugo. Juan Andrés Colón de Bonilla was born in the early 1700s either in Coamo or Ponce and he died on on 5 Mar 1767 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Supposedly, Juan Andres' parents were a Capitan Diego Colón and an Ysabel de Bonilla Candelaria who were both born in Coamo, Puerto Rico in the late 1600s. Have you seen any good sources for this family line that would lead you to believe they were descendants of the original Juan Colon Coamo church founder that you mentioned in this video? The second suspected line that I descend from is a Cristobal Cordero born abt 1643 whose paternal grandmother was Ana de Orozco de Luyando ( you mentioned her parents Juancho de Luyando and Leonor Manuel). Ana de Orozco supposedly married a Regidor Manuel Cordero who was Cristobal Cordero's paternal grandfather. Cristobal Cordero's maternal grandparents were a CRISTOBAL De Malavé and a Lucia De Moya from San Juan. I haven't yet seen a direct connection to the Colon lines you mentioned, but these abuelo and nieto both named Cristobal and their relatedness to other ancestors that you mentioned in your video, makes these suspect for Cristobal Colon ancestry for me. Any thoughts on these two family lines?

His grandson Juan Colon de Luyando (1600-1684) was born in Coamo Puerto Rico or New Spain as it was called back then. HE IS a direct decendant of Cristobal, so he did leave a decendant in Puerto Rico. As he, Cristobal, never lived in Puerto Rico. It states that Cristiobal arived to Puerto Rico on November 19th 1493 but only stayed for one week. He never had his family here., never made any settlements here. But his grandson Juan Colon seemingly did as there are many ancestors with their sur name, starting from the city of Coamo, Puerto Rico. Maybe a son that married here in PR that passed down the name through generations. Here is a brief life history from Family Search. Brief Life History of Juan When Juan Colón de Luyando was born in 1600, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, his father, Juan Colón, was 30 and his mother, Leonor de Luyando Manuel, was 35. He had at least 1 son with Catalina de Alvarado. He died in 1684, in his hometown, at the age of 84.

Thank you! This Alonso Melendez was born in the late 1500's, I think he's a little too old to be your 5th Great-Grandfather. I'm not sure how old you are but my 5th Great-Grandparents were born in the late 1700's. Must be a different man by the same name.

Dairen, do you have an email? I can email you a link to a book I finally found in my archives. It was written by Rafael Nieto y Cortadellas, titled "Los Descendientes de Cristobal Colon." I did my research and found that my 10th great-grandmother was Maria de la Cueva y Colón, married Carlos Luna Ramírez de Arellano, who had Diego Geronimo Luna Ramirez de Arellano, born in Spain and moved to Villa de San German, Puerto Rico.

Thank you for reaching out. My email is Dairen.Castro@gmail but I already have that book. I also descend from Gerónimo Ramírez de Arellano and have seen no evidence that he was named Diego or used the de Luna names, I have also seen no records that show his parents as Carlos de Luna and Maria de la Cueva. Do you have these records? That you can send to my email.

I thought that Diego Ramos Colón was the son of Juan Colón de Luyando and Catalina de Espinosa. Juan Colón de Luyando, in turn, was the son of Juan Colón Dávila. Where did I go wrong? I'm not that good at tracking documents in Spanish. I'm not sure what parts of your video show that Juan Colón was in fact Bernardo and the son of Luis Daça de Ávila. Can you tell me the time stamps? I'm struggling to follow along. Thank you!
@yannaleyva45545 ай бұрын
How did you prove that Juan Colón in Coamo (the founder of the church, husband of Leonor de Luyando) is from the Cristobal Colón lineage or brother to Luis De Ávila? Is there a document that confirms that the Juan from Panama is of the Cristobal Colón family and that he is the same Juan Colón found in Coamo? Trying to figure this stuff out but I'm getting more confused the more I try to research, but it's now 4 a.m.. I have been going at this non-stop for 10+ hours straight, I think I need a break!

From the information you showed in this video, there is a possibility that I could be a descendant of Christopher Columbus from my mother's side, her father who was born in Arecibo, and his mother in Isabela, although they probably all originated from Arecibo. My great grandmother's surname was Lopez, but I was surprised to discover the name Guzman appearing in the family tree of Colon, which was also one of my mother's surnames, although not sure yet where it came from yet. My brother did a DNA test in Ancestry, which led him to find the names of many distant cousins in USA, one in particular has the surname Colon and lives in Arecibo.

So ive been researching my family tree from my mother's side. My family is mostly focused in the north eastern part of Puerto Rico but i have roots that go back to Cayey and Cidra. From my mother's side i have an ancestor named Juana de la Cruz Colon Gomez. Ive looked at all the documentation available and ive been able to trace her descendents back to me. Its possible that i am a descendent of Colon through her but thats where i hit a wall. Juana de la Cruz Colon parents were named Luis Colon Bonilla and Maria Gomez. Luis Colon Bonilla died in nov 1804 in Cayey died at 75 so roughly born in 1734. But the records dont state who were his parents only his wife Maria Gomez. In other trees from other people supposedly his parents are Diego Colon de Torres Ortiz and Isabel de Bonilla but again there is no document to prove it. What do you think about this based on your research?
@DairenCastroTorresGenealogy Жыл бұрын
Good day and thank you for your comment. My apologies I don't have a Luis Colón de Bonilla on my tree. Ancestry trees are almost always wrong so I wouldn't even look at them. Diego Colón de Torres Ortíz died by gunshot in 1673 and he didn't have a wife or children. I think you should investigate the children of a different Diego Colón (c.1680- ) and Ysabel de Bonilla, your Luís may be a grandchild of them. The problem is you will find another roadblock with that Diego because he is also a dead end, all I know is he is likely a brother of Cristobal Colón, husband of Ana Sánchez.
@theborikenweeb5241 Жыл бұрын
@@DairenCastroTorresGenealogy that's another thing with ancestry i dont get why people put information without looking into the documents and they end up putting made up stuff just because they see other people put it also. Nevertheless, with what I've found there was a Margarita Colon Bonilla who was born in 1718 roughly born in that period like my Luis Colon. Her parents are listed as Diego Colon and Ysabel Bonilla. There was also Narcisa born in 1721 and a few others. And her descendents lived in Cayey,same as mine. It is possible that my Luis Colon is the son of those people. Im gonna take a bet that my Luis Colon was born a little earlier than 1734 since people at that time did not know their exact age sometimes. But who that Diego Colon is son of is another question.
