Oh please get a reality check!! The judge was not blaming the Colonel for the deal that Elvis made!! The judge was pointing out that the Colonel had made a bad deal. The Colonel was Elvis' manager he's supposed to negotiate the best deal for Elvis. RCA records at the time purposely undervalued Elvis' catalogue. The deal was always going to be a bad one. The way the percentages have been worked out is criminal ...Movie Money 25% Record Money 25% Merchandise Money 25% and Non Performance Money 50% (what's that ??) taking a cut for NOT PERFORMING!!! The percentages are way too high!! In reality nobody can justify 25% for anything and 50% for Not Performing is a bloody rip off. And most managers don't charge 15% EVER. On television here in the UK a few years ago someone said that Madonna's manager only gets 10% and that's the most they can expect to get. Yes the Colonel is only working for Elvis because if he worked with anyone else they might ask him why are you ripping me off?? The Colonel was greedy plain and simple made outrageous deals and attempted to make a mug out of everyone he ever met. I don't need to read a book that's attempting to make the Colonel look intelligent he's a crook who worked Elvis to death. I'm a bit surprised Trey that you can't see through this.

@@slimcoogan3277 Well I can't tell you which books you should read just look at the evidence from people who worked with Elvis Steve Binder who produced the 68 Elvis TV Special his book and his documentary Reinventing Elvis only confirms that the Colonel was crooked a bully and only thought about getting the deal that he wanted.

Thank you! Perfectly said. He locked him up in that movie deal that nearly took the heart out of him and then he locked him up in Vegas that did take the heart out of him. Elvis was a bad judge of character and loyal to a fault unfortunately. Vultures know where their prey is and that's just what the so-called "Colonel" was.

Great reply. Another thing, which is broken down in the book about Elvis and Colonel, as well as, the second Guralnick book I believe, is the "double dipping" Colonel did. For example, let's say Elvis was going on a 15 date tour in the summer of 1975, and after the tour is over, the gross amount taken in is 2 million dollars. People might say that Colonel split that 50/50 or 25/75 in Elvis' favor, depending on the time period, but what gets lost and is never, or rarely brought to light is this. The 2 million was actually split in half to start. The promotion would get 50% and Elvis 50%. The promotion consisted of Colonel by himself, or in later times he was in partnership with another promoter. Before Elvis had even gotten a dollar, Colonel already had 500 thousand or 1 million dollars depending on the Era. Then, acting as Elvis manager, he got another cut of between 25 and 50% of Elvis` 1 million dollar cut. So Colonel would get between 250 thousand and 500 thousand from Elvis' share. Depending on the Era, COLONEL would get between 750 thousand and 1 million 500 thousand for the 15 date tour, while Elvis got between 500-750 thousand, so Colonel was getting double what Elvis was on some deals. This "double dipping" is highly illegal and the judge highlighted this when pointing our how Colonel mismanaged and fleeced Elvis.

I'm as sympathetic as I can be, but - as you all admit - 25% is way too much for a manager to begin with - then you admit Touring money was split 50%. While the court looked at this and I believe them far more than just a writer. Elvis also locked Elvis into never leaving America, which is the great sin, and none of the excuses put forward for that fly, Trey. So, if you try to defend that, you really aren't being truly honest, my friend!

Plus all the expenses/costs.. Thats why he was left broke... while he had made millions... between his 18 and 42... Plus the guy was on uppers downers... also paying doctors prescriptions... So no clear thought... or vision for his personal future... Same as Michael Jackson.. paid his extended family brothers isters mother/Father cost of living... Paid off his acusers of childpredation.. Paid off his home carnival/Zoo... Spend spend spend... But 50% only for a bussines manager is way too much... 5 to 10% is todays rate for a manager..

I’m from the uk I was only 11 when Elvis died but still effected me a lot . Don’t you think the uk and also the world should have been able to see him live ? Las Vegas year after year just wore him out . England and the world were willing him to tour overseas and the fans in the uk deserved to see our king were he was probably more successful than the states . Basically All I’m saying is it could of all been so different the entire world deserved to see him . Anyway no bad feelings fella just saying what I think ❤

@@nancylorenzo7029 By not touring outside America the Elvis critics would point out that Elvis doesn't appreciate his fans but he doesn't mind having a lifestyle that's fuelled by it. I don't think that we will ever know the real reason or reasons why Elvis didn't tour his health was a big issue from 1973 and maybe having concerts cancelled because of this would have ruined his popularity with fans and non fans alike. I remember Suzanna Leigh who had starred with Elvis in Paradise Hawaiin Style was being interviewed in London and was asked about her friendship with Elvis and she said that she asked him once " Elvis why don't you come to London?". He responded " Well the Colonel has a bad back ". She responded " Screw the Colonel if you wanted to go you could just catch the Concorde and turn up with the guys". The money offered is always going to be an issue. If its not the money then its the Colonel's fault and if he's not to blame then it must be Elvis. Thank you for your response.
