As an animation pro I have a few insights to share about how this might've happened. Animating dance moves is hard. Animators have to meet a deadline. The easiest way to find movement reference is KZbin or Tic Tok. The easiest way to animate this kind of thing is to rotoscope it. I can understand why the dancers who've had their moves exactly copied sued. Your moves look like they were used as reference and inspiration but weren't exactly copied, so it might be tougher to collect damages. Having said that, if I ran Fortnite, I would happily pay the Professor and other high profile influencers and possibly get your fanbase interested in Fortnite. On the other hand, they may have run the numbers and decided it's cheaper to settle law suits. BTW your life story would make a great movie. Has anyone from Hollywood approached you yet?

See I don't support that kind of behavior from Epic Games. I think however that it is kind of a tricky situation here. I'm not sure if you can really put a copyright to a basketball move. In this specific case, it is even more vague, as the move consists of 2 moves of you combined. I think proving that the move has been copied from you will therefor be quite difficult. Maybe go ahead and ask them to give you credit by giving the move a name related to your channel instead of suing them. Definitely check the situation with your laywer if you can't resolve the situation otherwise and it really is worth the money for you. In conclusion: Unfair from EPIC but very vague.

3 years later and he still didn't do anything. I was too young at the time to realize how ingenious Professor was to make a video like this. He was never going to sue fortnite and if he was he definitely wasn't asking for advice from a bunch of younger kids. He made this video to spark his channel even more and get some attention. I don't know man, with all the pencil pushers and everything, I'm thinking you could have a hard time to settle, they could always argue the emote itself isn't 100% you. I highly recommend that you don't try to sue over this. While your moves do look similar there's no way for you to prove it's your own intellectual property. I've studied copyright law for a number of years and to my extent, your moves will not be protected under such a law. You cannot protect individual dance moves (or in your case, basketball moves especially). In intellectual property law, it is possible to copyright a dance, but not an individual dance move. The dance must have a series of movements that are arranged in a unique, original sequence in order to have copyright protection (which is why the Fortnite settled with the woman that sued for Electro Shuffle). While it might be legal for Epic Games to continue "stealing moves for emotes", the problem with it revolves around the ethics, which is absolutely not enough to win a case. Hope this helps.
