Crime victims usually pay the total; it may vary by state. My best friends son was murdered and his funeral was paid for from the organization. It doesn't mean my best friend shouldn't have a say so as to how HER son looked just b/c someone is paying. She didn't ask for him to be murdered and no, it was not related to drugs, ect. I went w/ her to the trials after she spent a year waiting for the law to extradite the punk back to face his crime. Yes, she was grateful, but #1 until you've have to bury a child, not much should be said on your end; but if so, say it with grace, b/c you have not experienced that and I hope you never do! My friend HAS NOT been the same fun and loving self, may be she'll find herself again, it's been 4 years now That's my opinion Good day!

Some funeral homes do not do a service if the families don't pay upfront. The fact that they went ahead and did the service in good faith says a lot about their funeral home. Edit: I meant this in a positive light towards the funeral home. Funeral home did not have to service them, but they still did, I'm sure due to the circumstances surround the unfortunate event.

I don’t think my family has ever paid for a funeral service up front. We sign paperwork allowing the funeral home to collect directly from the insurance company. I can understand why most Funeral Homes require full paymemt upfront. I can't imagine the number of people that plan elaborate funerals and then back out of paying, thinking, "what are they going to do? Dig the body up?". That must be one of the hardest occupations to be in. Everyone is grieving, families fighting over money, and people only employ you when they are(generally) in the absolute worst frame of mind.

When my sister died of Covid, my parents wanted her body transported from Chapel Hill, NC where she lived and worked, to Jeffersonville, IN where they live and where we’re from. The closest my parents received in an “oral contract “ was the cost to transport her body by road ($9.00 per gallon of gas) AND a next of kin must follow from Chapel Hill, all the way to Indiana and meet the funeral director immediately with my parents. Thats it. No other costs were discussed for the funeral to be conducted. This was only to transport her body.

I can’t imagine how much she’s suffering! She lost her son for pete’s sake. Where is compassion & help for people that doesn’t have insurance, because they can barely afford to live! I guess nobody expects to lose their child so early in life. I have heard of situations where the funeral home agrees to pay for the funeral & use it for a tax write off in situations like this. Or maybe even small monthly payments!! Having insurance is something we all need to think about, but most people don’t want to even think about it because it’s too painful! 😢

So early in life, didn"t j.j ask if the son had kids and the plaintiff Answered yes. So the son was an adult when hé died

Remember that the funeral home is a business. It will not last very long if it gives free funerals all the time. People need to pay. In this case it is not clear whether she cannot pay or doesn't want to pay. At the end of the day the business needs to get paid to survive.

Theres no such thing as a verbal agreement for such a service. She figures now that her son is buried she doesnt have to pay. And that is a very cheap funeral and the grandfather paid the only money so far. You know when you go out choosing a casket, a funeral home, a specific service that you picked one and signed for it to reserve the services. He didnt cause her suffering.

If he really called everyone in the family to say that, it would be quite awful. But because of her grief, the defendant has a bad memory, which makes her unreliable. Also, it makes no sense because he wouldn't have all their phone numbers. Also, is she expecting to herself be reimbursed for what her father/FIL paid? I'm very sorry for the plaintiff who suffered the worst thing a mom can ever face, but that's wild.

I think it is totally inappropriate for this "mother " to sue since the grandfather paid for alot of the funeral and she was asking the community to pay the rest, all while she never paid a dime for her childs funeral, and then tried to sue!!! Pos mom!!
