When discussing the production level of Soto and trying to replace it, it's worth pointing out that his offensive stats received a bit of a boost in 2024 from the benefit of batting ahead of Judge. Depending upon the lineup construction for the Mets this year, his stats may fall a little bit this year.
@4lyeskas7 күн бұрын
Yeah, there's definitely not a bat on NYM's lineup that's big enough to offer Soto the same protection. If they bring Pete back, that'd definitely help, but right now Lindor and/or Vientos likely aren't enough.
@robertcropley77147 күн бұрын
@@4lyeskas I'm thinking that Lindor will remain at the leadoff spot in the lineup, he was under performing last year until they moved him there halfway through the season.

Hal Steinbrenner leading the charge for a salary cap during the next CBA negotiations is going to be fun.
@pinverarity7 күн бұрын
_they still have to have a season relatively injury-free for it to work out for them_ Really? ‘Cause it seems like they don’t. They dispatched your team in five games with a one-armed Ohtani, a rotation in tatters, and a staggering number of days lost to the IL. In fact, it seems like they’re specifically planning a campaign to repeat that includes planning for injuries and leaving as little as possible to chance.
@carbone1727 күн бұрын
To answer your question, as a Yankee fan, in relation to the dodgers quotes: Yes. He sounded like an absolute buffoon saying: “Now, we’ll see if it pays off,” Steinbrenner said. “They still have to have a season relatively injury-free for it to work out for them, and it’s a long season, as you know, and once you get to the postseason, anything can happen. We’ve seen that time and time again. We’ll see who’s there at the end.” About a team that since 2014 has won 11 division titles, made it to 4 World Series, and won 2 (including one against the Yankees not 4 months ago) when the Yankees have missed the playoffs entirely as many times as they've won the division and lost to the Dodgers in the one World Series they've been to. It doesn't get more foolish.

From an article I read after Soto signed with the Mets.Soto's mother at the meeting with Hal asked for a luxury suite for Soto's family members. Hal told her that Juan would have to pay for it and stated to her that even Jeter paid for his.
@Feanor0267 күн бұрын

You haven't been direct with us if at all in any ways with which you would be flexible or willing to compromise and come to an agreement. At this point it would be incumbent upon you to disclose to us which areas you would be more willing to compromise. Whether it be escalators in the contract years total value, or other compensation.

The jays could be 2nd in the division or last in the league. All of us Toronto faithful know this is the case. Having said that the American league is very weak and if things go well they are competing. And lets remember someone from the AL has to make the WS even if the dodgers are gonna win it. And thats massive incentive to go all out. Im not sure the jays are gonna spend another 20-25M on alonso but thats probably what they need.

Mets had a better offseason than the Reds and the Cubs. Just stop. Juan Soto was the biggest signing of the offseason. And Clay Holmes is nasty, we'll see if he translates into a starter. Minter and Stanek help make a nice back end of the bullpen. Siri has gold glove upside. Montas, in this pitching lab, could be very decent. This team is just as good as the NLCS team from last year. If they bring back Pete, then I don't want to hear this question again about who had the best offseason in the NL outside the Dodgers.
@dahnawa18396 күн бұрын
Dodger haters: Your owner is a billionaire too. Dodgers also have a top 5 scouting dept. and are known for developing major leaguers they play or trade for value. Free agents know this. Your owner could put more money into development, scouting and free agency but he’s pocketing the money. And sorry the bandwagon is full.

Hal didn't say the Yankees were poor, he said no other teams can do what the Dodgers are doing right now and he's right. There's a difference between being owned by a group that earns all of their revenue from baseball and one owned by a private equity firm with $300b assets under management. It's not just about revenue, it's about the degree of financial risk each team can take because of their total organizational assets.

But why? The Rays have had a lot of success despite a low payroll
@robertcropley77147 күн бұрын
@zaneplatt3533 The player's association has started to step up as of late to force the hand of owners so to speak in terms of spending more money on payroll when they file a grievance against them with the commissioner's office. This is the reason why we're seeing Oakland suddenly spending more money.

Getting tired of this seemingly endless line that the Yankees lost the WS because of their defense and now they are so much better defensively. First, they didn't lose the WS because they played bad defense. They played bad defense in ONE game, in fact in ONE inning of ONE game. It gets hyped because it all happened in the elimination game. That's all. I remember Game 5 of the 1978 World Series, Dodgers vs Yankees in the Bronx where the Dodgers, a very good defensive team that year with four all stars (Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey) , kicked the ball around the yard to the tune of 3 errors that certainly cost them the game. But not the series. Take away the 5th inning of Game 5 and the Yankees, whether you like it or not, played average defense in the other 4 games. And as I pointed out, even good defenses can come apart under the intense pressure of the World Series for a short time. So this line of reasoning is just overrated. The Yankees won't be going back to the WS next year because they made a couple of improvements on defense (I mean the Yankees offseason is basically Max Fried and 3 one year rentals), hardly transformational IMO. And there is absolutely no way it can be argued they are as good offensively without Soto. Teams are going to pitch around Judge all year long.
