Did Harry find the Room of Requirement in his first year? - Harry Potter Theory

So, what do you think? Did Harry unintentionally and unknowingly discover the Room of Requirement in his first year? I'm almost certain of this so try any prove me wrong HATERSSSS

Really good and interesting, but isn’t it addressed in the 5th book that unless you know specifically what somebody is doing in the room you can’t enter? How could dumbledore have gone in while harry was using it unless he knew already? I really like this theory and want it to be true

thomas h I think because both harry & dumbledore were looking for the mirror hence they found the same 'unused classroom' just like the inquisitorial squad found the DA headquarters in the order of the phoenix

I believe the Charms Class is in Third Floor... South Tower? Divination is in the North Tower I believe, seventh Floor obviously, Hogwarts has only seven floors... That's all I think I can remember. EDIT: Wait, let me get out the other obvious ones, The Great Hall is directly from the Main Doors and is on the Ground Floor. Kitchens are right below the Great Hall and the Hufflepuff Basement Common Room is right down the hall The Dungeons aren't far and Potions, The Potion-Master Office, and The Slytherin Common Room are there.

wariolandgoldpiramid Nope, Charms is definitely Third floor, First Year when Harry and Ron are trying to Duel Malfoy and Goyle? In the Trophy Room at Midnight. Hermione tries to stop the idiots from going to the Duel because it's probably a trap (which it is) and poor Neville has been locked out all night because he forgot the Password. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville try to escape Filtch through the Charms Corridor but Peeves is there and Ron pisses him off so Peeves shouts that children are out of bed at the top of his non-existent lungs. They book it out of there as fast as possible and come to the nearest door which is locked and Hermione opens it with Alohamora and it is The Third Floor Forbidden Room with Fluffy. Boom, Charms is on the Third Floor.

I think this is your best theory yet. It makes a lot of sense.By the way, I know the castle pretty well by playing the video games a lot. You would think they wouldn't be very book accurate but it's actually astounding how much they get right. Most classrooms and the hospital wing are at the correct floor in almost every game, and also stuff like the library and moaning myrtle's bathroom. The only thing I really wouldn't know is the grounds since that's never really explained in detail in the books and it changes between every movie and every videogame.

I don't see it as plot convenience that Harry found the mirror, Harry himself says he doesn't think its an accident that Dumbledore let him figure out how to use it, also Dumbledore was probably still working on the mirror.

All the sudden, I'm reminded of that confrontation between Snape and Quirrell in the hallway. Think about what Snape said to Quirrell. That short speech about loyalties. Did Snape realize Voldemort was on the back of his head? If Snape knew, Dumbledore would have. If Dumbledore knew, it means he was keeping Voldemort close at hand and tempting him with the stone. That would have been an extremely dangerous game with many lives Dumbledore was playing.

I always wondered why the Room of Requirement would present itself as a room full of chamber pots if you needed a bathroom. You’d think it would just be a bathroom. But it was Dumbledore telling the story so I just went with it.

I might want to point out that in the UK, there's an extra floor.. Kitchen is below the GROUND floor, so basically what we would call the second floor is the first floor, and the 3rd floor for us is the 2nd floor (Moaning Mrytle and the DA classroom is here) for them, 4th floor for us is the 3rd floor for them, and the 5th floor for us is the 4th floor for them, and the 6th floor for us is the 5th floor them.

Even if it was the room of requirement it wouldn't have had the mirror in it, it would have had a bunch of hiding places or something like that, the room provides what you need from its inventory, it actually makes more sense for it to not be the room of requirement than for it to be

Nightshade 2005 even if it was the room of requirement when Harry and Ron returned the next night they would have found the hallway without a door And besides Dumbledore at least in the first couple books seems very much the type that would believe hiding in plain sight is more effective then any other way of concealing and so I could very easily see him using an unused classroom however it's also possible that would Harry stumbled across that night was another secret room entirely different from the room of requirement however I personally believe the theory put forth by Alastair Stephens when he was doing the seminar for the first book which is that Hogwarts is the conscious entity which to a greater or lesser extent shapes itself in a meaningful way and that the entity that is Hogwarts or maybe Dumbledore wanted Harry to find the room and mirror and so it half let him in the direction of the room and half brought the room to him

People don't seem to realise how big of that discovery is. But it actually proves something that Dumbledore did in the 1st year and never admitted or told to anyone at all! What was that? Well Dumbledore in Harry's 1st year made a cunning trap to whoever was stupid enough (aka Quirrel) to go looking for the Philosopher's stone. That trap was the very chamber that the 3 headed dog was guarding... (Lets call it the test chamber for convenience...) You see Dumbledore had placed the stone inside the mirror under a spell that would only reveal it to whom had no plan of using it (the stone) in any way... So Voldemort or Quirrel that had a plan of using the stone - even if the mirror was standing right there Infront of them they wouldn't be able to retrieve the stone. So stone was indeed always safe. Dumbledore initiative placed the mirror of Erised inside the room of requirement where it would be perfectly safe and made the test chamber with the help of other professors plus Snape to lure anyone who would want to steal the stone and trap him there... Everything would have worked quite perfectly if Harry hadn't risked it all by going down there himself! Harry was one of the few people that could get the stone and never use it for himself - that's why the protection spell allowed him to take the stone - at which point, Dumbledore's plan was ruined... Dumbledore explicitly said to Harry not to go looking for that Mirror ever again. Cuz people like Harry was the only way for the stone to be retrieved again... But when Harry learned about the Mirror's location, the Mirror had to be moved in another pace, hence Dumbledore moving it to the test chamber where it was supposed to be from the 1st place...

As far as I know the Room of Hidden Things is one version of the Room of Requirement. If you need to hide something in front of the Room of Requirements, it will open the door to the Room of Hidden Things.

I can't speak for the books, but from the film it appears that Dumbledore set everything in motion to see how Harry could handle things: 1. He sends Hagrid (nice guy, but loose lips) to pick up both Harry and the stone on the same day. From this Harry learns pretty much about the guy he's going to have to fight AND about something being moved from a specific vault to Hogwarts. 2. As stated, the mirror is left where Harry could find it. Then he takes it away once he's sure Harry knows how it works. 3. He sends Harry the cloak who's only real purpose is sneaking around. 4. The traps are tailored to the skills of Harry and his friends. Again this is more a movie thing. I understand there were more defenses in the book.

I think it's safer to assume that it was in RoR all the time.

Colaman112 well, Dumbledore might have been afraid that he won’t find the room of requirements again so he moved it to a abandoned classroom in the middle of nowhere. Since it appears that Hogwarts got a lot of unused classrooms it appears that you would have to accept a very small risk of it being found. During the day it might be locked and harry could only enter it because Dumbledore was inside it beforehand.

Hi Seamus, I have a Fantastic Beasts theory, which suggests that both Jacob Kowalski and Queenie Goldstein do end up together and are the grandparents of Anthony Goldstein, the Ravenclaw prefect during the Deathly Hallows. This would also suggest therefore that he is the great-nephew of Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein, and the cousin of Rolf Scamander, who later marries Luna Lovegood. Further evidence, of their relation, aside their surname (Goldstein) is their appearance, both have light blonde hair, a recessive trait. While not directly on the Harry Potter Fan Wikipedia, it does state that he is a half-blood and that both Tina and Queenie are distant relatives and we know that Newt and Tina return to England and retire in Cornwall. To conclude, it's just a theory.

Oh that pottermore article all but confirms your theory. Mind blown. I can’t tell how much that means to me. Like I can remember talking to my friends why Dumbledore knew where Harry was and why Dumbledore mysteriously was f*cking there on the third night. Back then that’s when we came across the theory that Dumbledore might be a animagi. Like he was always there in that room but in the form of a white bumblebee (cause that’s the meaning of his name). Obviously that theory didn’t come true. So him being there (perhaps invisible. He doesn’t need the cloak) to put enchantments on the mirror and also knowing about the room and how it works-makes a lot of sense.

I do believe that there is a bit of a few holes in ur theory. The RoR will not open to a random passerby with a need. You need to be thinking specifically of what you need and walk past back and forth 3 times before it will be revealed to you. Also Dumbledore had most likely moved it into an empty class room to put the enchantments. There are actually plenty times that the books mention unused classrooms, which is probably why harry doesn't care to find the empty class room again, besides he no longer was seeking out the mirror.

Dumbledore could have found the room of requirement and not known what it was. Maybe in his time at hogwarts he never could figure out what his deepest desire was, and so every time he walked past, the room of requirement would show him the mirror, except that one time when it was all chamberpots and he was confused.

The only thing that makes me think that this ISN"T the room of requirement is that Dumbledore was inside it during Harry's third visit. Harry was convinced the DD never visited the ROR or he would have known the location of the tiara horcrux and if DD was looking for a place to hide the Mirror of Erised, he would have found the ROR. And I am not a hater

Nn, I don't think so. The room that Harry went into could have been a storage room, which happened to have the Mirror. The school does have a lot of empty rooms. Plus Harry escaped the library on the third floor, so wouldn't the RoR be on the fifth? Sorry if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I read the books😱
