Yes, you do. Example, Harry needed a place to hide the Half-Blood Prince's old potions book, the door only revealed itself to Harry after his third passing. That was probably his most urgent need to get into that room up to that point in the story considering he used Dark Magic against Malfoy and would have been expelled and likely would have suffered a much much worse punishment at the hands of the Ministry.

It makes more sense to me that Dumbledore moved the Mirror out of the Room of Requirement in order to spend time working on the enchantment for hiding the Stone. It was probably in the Room of Hidden Things and Dumbledore wouldn't have wanted to go in there and find his way to the Mirror every time when he had to work on the enchantment. It would be much quicker to just hide it in an extra classroom (of which I assume there are hundreds, since the castle is so large and there are only like a half dozen classes that students take at Hogwarts). Plus, I think that you have to walk past the Room of Requirement 3 times in order to enter it. I could maybe believe that Harry might have passed it twice (once in one direction and then going in the opposite direction) in his efforts to avoid Filch and Snape, but I doubt he would have gone past a third time. Finally, I don't see how Harry needing to hide makes the room containing the Mirror appear. Supposing we go with your reasoning at why Snape and Filch would ignore an unused classroom, then it would have just conjured an empty classroom for Harry to hide in. But more likely, it would have given him a smaller, less consequential room to hide in like just a bare room or even a broom closet. I love your videos, man, but I just don't think this one pans out.

On the second and third time, Harry probably did walk by the patch of wall numerous times to reveal the door because he was desperately looking for it. Also, a theory is that Dumbledore was inside the room already on the first night (possibly all nights). We know he was there the third night. It would explain why the room was already "activated" to be the classroom because Dumbledore was inside. He stated he could make himself invisible without a cloak and also he knew on the third night that Harry had been multiple times. We always just assume Dumbledore somehow just "knows" things, because of how vague and mysterious he can be, but a better explanation is that he was there working on the mirror and when he heard Harry come in, he made himself invisible and just observed. Also, think about this. We know Dumbledore lied when he said what he saw in the mirror. If he saw his heart's desire, then like Harry, he may have been transfixed by the mirror for a time, just like Harry was. Dumbledore is human and makes mistakes (he says so himself) and anything that touches on his late sister makes him act irrationally. (Remember he put on the ring to try to use the resurrection stone the moment he found it). Maybe Harry actually interrupted him staring into the mirror. When he saw the effect it had on Harry, he realized how dangerous it was and decided to put it to better use. It could have been then that he decided to use it as a way to secure the sorcerer's stone.

On the location of the RoR... It does move around the castle - it's not a static location but a magically appearing one that changes where it shows up. There's a passage, I believe, where this is explained (I'm thinking by Dobby, when he explains the room?). I don't have access to my books at the moment, but I had the page dog marked for years... But yeah, Harry never would have figured it out, because ostensibly the room can not only change location, but full appearances. It can be a closet (Dobby hides Winky in it as a closet to sober up), a huge dueling practice hall, an unused classroom, a massive (potentially endless) room filled with piles of junk... Add to this the understanding that Hogwarts is also FILLED with unused classrooms, particularly in the dungeons (again I believe this is mentioned off hand somewhere, but without my books and their magical page markers, I can't quote - anyone who can, please do), and you end up with either "Harry never would have thought anything odd about ANOTHER similarly unused sort of room" or "He never would have noticed because the room was always different looking somehow, or found in different places". Accordingly, it is entirely possible that Harry's first encounter (I believe you are correct, he WAS in the RoR in the first novel) with the Room IS actually on the 6th floor or below, rather than the 7th floor where Harry is told the Room last showed itself. Pretty sure the broom cupboard that they hide Crabb and Goyle in, in Chamber of Secrets, is ALSO the same Room of Requirement closet that Dobby later hides Winky in, and that's not even on the 7th floor when they do that.

This would make sense considering he knew Harry had been there before when he revealed himself on the third night. Dumbledore probably just meant he hadn’t seen the toilet room 🚽 before. It didn’t look like a classroom in the movie. 😏 I thought he visited it multiple times in the book. But 3 times in the movie. & Dumbledore says, “I don’t need a cloak to be invisible” hinting that Dumbledore had seen Harry in the room before he reveals himself. Which explains how he knew Harry had used it before - “Back again, Harry”.

Lily loved her sister and she and Petunia were best friends. If Lily had to constantly grow up (as her magical ability grows) with someone she 'trusted' and loved calling her a freak and telling her to repress her magic, without an outlet (Snape) there would be a high chance of her becoming an obscurial. Lily wasn't very old when she did first become friends with Snape and wouldn't have known about her magical ability for very long beforehand.

I believe the Charms Class is in Third Floor... South Tower? Divination is in the North Tower I believe, seventh Floor obviously, Hogwarts has only seven floors... That's all I think I can remember. EDIT: Wait, let me get out the other obvious ones, The Great Hall is directly from the Main Doors and is on the Ground Floor. Kitchens are right below the Great Hall and the Hufflepuff Basement Common Room is right down the hall The Dungeons aren't far and Potions, The Potion-Master Office, and The Slytherin Common Room are there.

wariolandgoldpiramid Nope, Charms is definitely Third floor, First Year when Harry and Ron are trying to Duel Malfoy and Goyle? In the Trophy Room at Midnight. Hermione tries to stop the idiots from going to the Duel because it's probably a trap (which it is) and poor Neville has been locked out all night because he forgot the Password. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville try to escape Filtch through the Charms Corridor but Peeves is there and Ron pisses him off so Peeves shouts that children are out of bed at the top of his non-existent lungs. They book it out of there as fast as possible and come to the nearest door which is locked and Hermione opens it with Alohamora and it is The Third Floor Forbidden Room with Fluffy. Boom, Charms is on the Third Floor.

I think this is your best theory yet. It makes a lot of sense.By the way, I know the castle pretty well by playing the video games a lot. You would think they wouldn't be very book accurate but it's actually astounding how much they get right. Most classrooms and the hospital wing are at the correct floor in almost every game, and also stuff like the library and moaning myrtle's bathroom. The only thing I really wouldn't know is the grounds since that's never really explained in detail in the books and it changes between every movie and every videogame.

People don't seem to realise how big of that discovery is. But it actually proves something that Dumbledore did in the 1st year and never admitted or told to anyone at all! What was that? Well Dumbledore in Harry's 1st year made a cunning trap to whoever was stupid enough (aka Quirrel) to go looking for the Philosopher's stone. That trap was the very chamber that the 3 headed dog was guarding... (Lets call it the test chamber for convenience...) You see Dumbledore had placed the stone inside the mirror under a spell that would only reveal it to whom had no plan of using it (the stone) in any way... So Voldemort or Quirrel that had a plan of using the stone - even if the mirror was standing right there Infront of them they wouldn't be able to retrieve the stone. So stone was indeed always safe. Dumbledore initiative placed the mirror of Erised inside the room of requirement where it would be perfectly safe and made the test chamber with the help of other professors plus Snape to lure anyone who would want to steal the stone and trap him there... Everything would have worked quite perfectly if Harry hadn't risked it all by going down there himself! Harry was one of the few people that could get the stone and never use it for himself - that's why the protection spell allowed him to take the stone - at which point, Dumbledore's plan was ruined... Dumbledore explicitly said to Harry not to go looking for that Mirror ever again. Cuz people like Harry was the only way for the stone to be retrieved again... But when Harry learned about the Mirror's location, the Mirror had to be moved in another pace, hence Dumbledore moving it to the test chamber where it was supposed to be from the 1st place...

Agreed. I mostly learn new things from this channel but I actually knew this. After Dumbledore commented about an usual bathroom at the Yule Ball in Goblet of Fire and then after they used the room for Dumbledores Army it kind of all went hand in hand. Plus I figured Dumbledore must have put the Mirror of Erised in the Room of Requirements because how many students are going to know to look for it there to begin with, hidden in almost plain sight so to speak. But once Harry got into it Dumbledore must have realized it wasn't as secure as he thought so he moved it and put extra enchantments with the teachers help to guard it

Does the Room of Requirement move? or does it stay fixed on the same floor? Because since the library is on the first floor, and the mirror was found on the fourth floor, how can this then be the room of requirement?

MrFlaten92 Harry knew he was "at least" five floors above the kitchens. The 7th floor is more than 5 floors above the kitchens, so fulfills Harry's description of where he was. This is Seamus' point, that the book doesn't say he was on the 4th floor mere that he was on the 4th floor or higher.

Cool theory, but the real question is what happens if a student is using the room of requirement amd another student comes along in need of it but for a different purpose? Does it create two rooms maybe or does that room split into two, Any thoughts?

Adwitiya Samaddar yhe i got that, but it also says you cant enter another persons room on pottermore (im guessing that part is circumstantial) sondoes that mean only one room can be used at one time? Also draco had the two way cabinets in the room which would mean you could enter the room from outside via a magical artifact. So if the room was say in the layout for the bathroom dumbledor used and draco used the cabinet where would he end up? In his own room cause that would mean there would have to be more than one or would it stop that artifact from working.

Colaman112 well, Dumbledore might have been afraid that he won’t find the room of requirements again so he moved it to a abandoned classroom in the middle of nowhere. Since it appears that Hogwarts got a lot of unused classrooms it appears that you would have to accept a very small risk of it being found. During the day it might be locked and harry could only enter it because Dumbledore was inside it beforehand.

It could not have been the room of requirement, because Harry would have had to walk past it three times. It was also probably never mentioned again because there was no other plot convenience, EXCEPT when harry was practicing for the triwizard tournament, he was using an UNUSED CLASSROOM.

For full working knowledge on the Hogwarts castle play the Order of the Phoenix game and wander and wander and wander. They replicated the movie versions and used all of JK Rowlings notes/plans for the layout. So it’s as accurate as can be 🙌

but the room of requirement is on the 7th floor, and how is Harry's 'requirement' to hide lead to the mirror. sorry m8 I think you missed on this one. Albus had *finished* the work on the mirror, took it out of the RoR and put it in the empty classroom while school was on holiday so that any staff member who needed to bring the mirror could get it without going to the RoR. that made it much easier to place it in it's 'final' place at the end of the hiding places for the Philosophers Stone.

Why would Dumbledore put the mirror in a room for other teachers to see it? Dumbledore is the only person enchanting the miror. Hagrid sorted the dog, Flitwick sorted the flying keys, McGonagall sorted the chess, Quirell sorted the troll, Snape sorted the potions and Dumbledore sorted the miror

Yeah, I don't think it was the room of requirement either. If I saw a dead loved one (even just their reflection) in a room I would remember that room forever. The books wouldn't have mentioned Harry seeing the door again (because that would have been confusing) but I am sure he did and I am sure he would have noticed if it went missing. Not to mention the room of requirement would be little more than a plot device if it really is always in the same place and Harry just happened to be beside it when he was about to get caught out after hours. Love the video! I am just not convinced.

to all of y'all pointing out that harry had to walk past it three times in order to get in, yes, that is true. but harry was on the run and the hogwarts castle is hella confusing so he probably did run past it three times accidentaly. when he tries to find it again it's also very difficult for him to find, but he does find it eventually. maybe he couldnt find it at first again because the door hadnt shown up yet, and then suddenly it did. just saying
