To me, it sounds like the commentor has an opportunity to get better as a musician. I am a musician too and when I hear something or see something, I don’t understand I try my best to find out how it is done. Critiquing someone else on something you don’t understand is not the way to get better as a musician. You did a great job.

Ally, I have been playing the pipes at an average level for 40 years and learnt something new today - thank you very much indeed. My beginnings were very traditional in a high school band in the 80s, focused on learning marches, strathspeys and reels for piping competitions. Useful grounding in techniques, but not a lot of joy. Happily, over the years I have had some great opportunities to play for people that have enriched my life. I am still learning and there is always a new challenge. I am so impressed by everything that you are doing to make piping accessible and to broaden the instrument's horizons. Do keep going 💪👍

Joy: A key thing in music, and not to knock traditional piping, but I never got much joy in listening to bag pipes until I encountered Ally, or Arch (TheSnakeCharmer) and other non-traditional musicians. I love these covers on unusual and unexpected instruments and the talent it takes to push the limits of what one can do.

I am glad he commented. He was wrong of course. But it gave the rest of us a chance to learn something and i am a huge believer in learning something every day. No i have never picked up the pipes but i have played almost everything else and if the opportunity presents itself i will be trying that as well!

Hello, I play the Galician bagpipes. Some time ago a Scottish bagpiper told me that the Scottish bagpipe could not make semitones like the Galician bagpipe does. You just denied it right now. The Scottish bagpipes can do them, but it depends on how and what you are playing. Thank you very much for this video, I love educational videos, like the one where you clarified that "the air is in the bag" and this disproved the other claim that the Scots cannot separate their lips from the blowpipe of the bagpipe at any time. Brilliant! You continue to prove that the Scottish bagpipe has more possibilities than many pipers believe. Greetings from far away.

Ahhmmm.... what I *SAW* and what you have *PLAYED* was really interesting, because I am interested to play the great highland. There is no piping school here nearby (Germany), so there will be no other chance to learn than by myself. But I honestly did not understand anything, Ally... And I think, my english is okay. 🙂You were talking this fast, that it sounds like "egle egle egle" ... 🙂Don't be angry on me. Really pity, because I am really surprised on all your other videos what's all possible to play on a great highland. Played by a very pretty girl! And yes... want to learn it.
