The brighter color of the Klein and Milwaukee vs the FLEX makes it easier to see what's in the box in less than ideal lighting conditions. Same is true of tool bags, hunting bags, backpacks, luggage, etc. Anything like that with brighter-colored interiors helps a lot for seeing what's in there.

I feel it's best to have the items in the container high-viz if you want to find them easy. I feel a darker or more neutral color is better for the container. A pack might be slightly different, lighter colors may let more sunlight in the pack. Though if not I would go back to dark. I keep lots of things in my hiking stuff high-viz. Normally the smaller harder to find things. Love my petzl headlight case, it's white and orange, and converts the light into a lantern!

I can say from first hand experience that the packout boxes are quite tough. I wrecked my truck rolling it over and my two stacks of packout were slung through the trees. I didn’t loose the first tool. There was some damage but nothing came open.

Yes, Flex has added wall mounts & folding shelves too. Still adding more items reminiscent of Packout, but starting to diverge a bit more with their tool pouches, etc.

My biggest problem with all those portable tool boxes is the handle length. I'm 6'4" and they all seem to be made for someone who is about 5'8". This means that when I'm pulling them I have to walk hunched over or the angle goes almost straight up and you look like an apprentice on the first day pulling your box. I wish that they would have something to lengthen the handles to make it more comfortable.

I totally agree. I am 6'5". What I do is I got a front mount from stacksmarter and it helps keep the stack weight balanced better and doesn't make your arm hurt for the long distances

Another 6’4” guy here, man it’s very annoying. I have the new Dewalt boxes, I literally tied a handle of paracord to the toolbox handle so that when I have boxes stacked to the top they’re not digging into my awkwardly bent wrist.
@brandonhoffman4712
@brandonhoffman4712 7 ай бұрын
I'm 6'2" and things seem okay for me so far. Though I just got my stack higher than the bar and I wouldn't go too much higher without a strap or something as it all gets a bit wobbly. I do have a 6'4" wingspan, so it places my hand near a 6' 1" person on the hang. Have you guys considered ditching the rolling box and getting the packout dolly? Or mounting a plate to one? For anyone still reading, go check out fastcap magshims. They have changed my life and upped my game, you can even mix in playing cards to fine tune things or get the perfect offset and they hold the stack together! Seriously game changing and seriously cheap. They even got my father to tell me I do really good work and he's a perfectionist on a perpetual pursuit. It literally brought a tear to my eye. But seriously, you will have trouble fitting a single playing card in my scribe cuts, thanks to Fastcap's magshims.

Hey guys I might have found another solution. Milwuakee makes a full size dolly. It has packout attachment points and a 400lb capacity! It looks like the bar sits around 4.5-5 feet. There should be good space, it can hold levels between the boxes and the bar. I did want 4 wheels, now I want that.

Thanks a lot for pointing out the finer points of each system. 😊 I think the cup holder that won't spill your drink is cooler than all get out! It wouldn't make much difference to me. I always, or nearly so, do all my work in my garage. But Klein does have the greatest color in my opinion. I guess they all have ups and downs like all products do. I think I'd have to agree that Milwaukee has the best shop storage but being on a fixed income I couldn't afford any of them anyway. But you did give me some ideas of how to possibly store some things. Thanks again Matt! 😊😊😊❤❤❤

I joined milwaukee before Klein showed up @ home depot with their boxes. I do really like how robust the milwaukee boxes are. They might be a bit more than the old soft husky rolling bags I used to buy. But those bags disintegrate in 5 years flat. I loathe external storage. It's just a way to advertise your tools to thieves when you clock out... the only external thing that caught my eye is a cord wrap. Though I don't like any I see. I just want a cord hanger, literally like a dowel to hang the cord from. I don't want to have to wrap up a cord around a box after having to wrap up the same cord that was strewn across the jobsite, that's redundant. Nor do I want to have to unwrap the whole cord from the box just to have to unwrap the cord again from my hands across the job the next morning...

It is no secret that I love Flex Tools. Before they released the Stack Pack system, I had a whole bunch of Packout boxes and I loved them. However, once Stack Pack came out, I bought them and sold all of my Packouts for the simple reason that I had all Flex tools and they work together much better. There are some areas where I still think Packout is better like the latching them together. An advantage Flex has is that they can connect backwards the same as forwards, which can be beneficial in some situations. As far as the new releases, Flex has come out with some wall storage, though probably not better than Packout. Loved the video, as always a very thorough review!

The Toughbuilt Stack Techs are nice, the plastic feels strong enough to build a car with, definitely alot stronger than the plastic they use for cars. I just replaced all my Husky tool boxes and Kobalt Tool bag with most of the currently available Boxes and the tool tote. All the Dewalt and Craftsman tool boxes feel cheap and flimsy. The Flex ones are pretty cool. Toughbuilt is definitely my favorite and their hand tools are really nice too

Milwaukee is designed around tradesmen that actually work on jobsites, not home gamers that should probably be using a standard roll cab with drawers. Everything goes inside a box with a locking latch to keep out curious sticky fingers. The DeWalt sistem is nice, but there's no way to lock the drawers so I'm heading out this morning to pull the trigger on a Packout set... I might have to paint it yellow tho...

I don't mind Milwaukee's aftermarket products. Simply because there are SO MANY options. I can do absolutely anything I want with it. Someone has made something for everything. I don't feel like any other system has that capability, OEM or Aftermarket.

I picked up the medium stackpack, the charger mount, the 3-battery holder, and the 41 pc impact bit set from FLEX. Let me say, I was super excited followed by disappointment to know it's awkward, annoying and the attachments for inside use of the case straight up don't work together. I'll upload a little video soon but for 150 bucks not including tools, the charger or batteries I'm kinda bummed because I thought this was the solution over red plastic

I've been trying to see decide on which system to go with, honestly at this point it's going to be toughbilt. They have the wall mounting system, bags that connect to the metal accessory rails along with other items and all of that attaches to their wall mount system including box to box to wall. Having a micro shop and working out on job sites I need both sides covered and it looks like toughbilt is going to fill that role a little cheaper than the others though not much cheaper. I used to in management at Lowes about twenty years ago, I'm not there because these changes in how they operate started back then and it's only gotten worse since. That is my one concern with buying toughbilt, dealing with Lowes and that's a 90 mile round trip for me if there's problems. The home depot isn't any better here and it's the same distance so it's a crap shoot either way.

I have all 3 systems. Here’s some not mentioned facts. 1. The outside rails on the Milwaukee dents and bends easily if hit on the right angle, and you cant correct it back once bent. 2. If security is important to yo than go for the flex system because its less obvious in color but mainly because of the positioning of the padlock loop to secure the box. On both the Klein and Packout systems the loop is off centered making it easy to simply squeeze your hand in on the side opposite to the lock to gain limited access. Whereas with the flex there’s no front lifting handle lip to raise and the lock loop is in the center. Lastly overall the Flex in a more dense plastic and feels stable and adequate to sit on if need be. Not to say you could sit on the others, you definitely can tell the difference. Besides sitting on the surface of a Milwaukee would be anything buy comfortable in terms of emergency seating.

You know where they should put an accessory mount? On the front of the middle and bottom boxes. There's room on the box, (I guess the Flex is the only middle box with a front handle? that might get in the way) and when you're rolling it, something on the front won't add to the width of things that can get snagged everywhere.

You really should have looked at the Ridgid boxes. When I finally decided to buy some a few months ago, I looked at them all for weeks. The Ridgid boxes are heavy and seal tight and the price was unbeatable, even compared to Ryobi, DeWalt and Kobalt. The add-ons for these boxes are nice but they are just gimmicky to me. But the space accommodates the small container box. I really like the external adds! That the others have. Milwaukee needs to step up and make it affordable!
@brandonhoffman4712
@brandonhoffman4712 7 ай бұрын
For me. External add-ons are just asking for things to dissappear off the job. It's much worse in commercial construction. I wouldn't trust a tape measure or razor knife outside my boxes when I'm not there. I could maybe see a use for the magnetic bit holder, though get ready to lose bits too! Or some other small items, but the only thing I have found that interests me is an extension cord hanger. I even keep trash bags inside my tool boxes these days. They fly out of the box like a money gun meeting a stripper! I can see people who tend to setup a stationary work zone being more interested in the external stuff. They can setup and be near enough to thier boxes to make more add-ons make sense. My tools are normally centrally located 2 rooms away, where I can gather all the stuff together at the end of the day to lock up.

Certainly Lowe's saying there order ould be ready in an hour....still not ready 6 hours later and then giving you a general response of "STICK IT< WE DONT CARE" deserves an extra drive by next time I need something local for my shop...I'll just go to the Home Depot instead to make sure I do my part for "Every action there is a reaction"....in this case I'll be sure to give my $$ to their direct competitor.... I think another thing about buying a system to consider is parts. You buy from a system so you know you can get replacements and replacement parts, once you put it into your workflow. I notice right away, those hydraulic (pneumatic?) struts, on the klein? I see those wearing out. Can you get more? maybe. What if your milwaukee has a part break? can you get more? absolutely, probably for at least 20 more years, minimum. That plastic hook that grabs the box on the milwaukee? I can see that going. I know my systainers do break latches. It's the first thing to go. sure is nice just ordering more. On a system, you can also scavenge parts from other worn out or broken tools. We do this a lot at work with our dewalt saw stands, because of the commonality of parts.

One that I'm not going to do is go out and buy into a new storage system I think that I have to strongly agree with you on the accessory side that Milwaukee has to step up to the plate in this department for sure but overall Milwaukee has Pioneered this system right down to the tee. I feel like klein should have made the sides metal. I feel like that plastic is gonna rip off when u hang things like rear handle saws off it. The accesories have metal but it attaches plastic to plastic. I tried hanging a saw off the rail and it flexed bad with my flex saw hanging off it (no pun intended) so i returned it and went with toughbuilt. I still own alot of packout but Im really liking the tb stacktech. The fact that u can customize without drilling or permenantly attaching accessories to it is great. Also packout lids indents go into the box unlike TB where the lids are flat across inside so u can fill to the top of the lid and it will close fine. Stack pack is great and tough but attaching the boxes can sometimes be annoying but once it attaches its good and strong. Also TB rails are metal so you unlike the other boxes you can attach and detach with ease things like magnetic levels, mag lights, mag trays etc... and there will be different sized drawers even single drawers coming out very soon.

I think that the StachTech is just so brand new and the supply might not be enough for the demand. There also was a issue with the wheels on the rooling box that needed to be fixed for the full release and I don't know how long that will take for that production to be ramped up.

The wheel issue was fixed before the first release date so it’s good to go now. I have the full StackTech line and it’s great. Packout and StackTech are the two leaders in my mind.

I really think it's a massive oversight not to consider systainers in these lists, simply because the value proposition is so different from the roughly interchangeable rolling box offerings. They are much lighter, much more space efficient, much easier to maneuver in tight spaces, and these days, the price differential between systainer and packout really isn't there any more, so the main downsides now are limits on the size of tool you can store (forget putting a caulking gun in a systainer M), and the fragility (Which is a real thing, don't get me wrong). My take is rather simple: if you want your tools to be organized, store them one layer deep, which means it is super valuable to have a lot of choices with regard to box height. My favorite boxes BARELY fit my tools. I have a jigsaw and my oscillating multi tool in a box with 72mm internal height (T-loc 1). Been using it for years, love it. Have both tools, blades for both tools, batteries for both tools, never gets messed up. Favorite box. To do that, you really need a line that has variance in box height. I know I can't fit my dewalt drill in a 72mm box, because I tried. Didn't work. If I had to go up to a medium sized milwaukee box, that would just undermine the entire philosophy of not putting tools on top of other tools. I do that in my layout box and it's a disaster. But I didn't. I just went one size up to a T-loc II, and I think when I expand my system, I can probably shuffle it around to get even more space efficient, now that systainer expanded their line to include the 137mm box (95mm internal), to bridge the gap between T loc I and II (72 and 124mm internal, respectively): I can drop my drill box down one size, and repurpose my drill box, probably for my router (which is currently in a T-loc I but needs more space for accessories). Systainer has this. If any of the three you looked at have it, I am not seeing it. I see a small box, take it or leave it, a medium box, take it or leave it, and a silly box with some stupid wheels on it. and I know the packout a lot, as I have had coworkers using it for years. It's just nowhere near as practical as the systainer on our jobsites. Mine act as sawhorses, workbenches, upstairs tool boxes, storage for stuff I might need at any moment like my car keys, whereas the packouts just sit in a sprawling mess on the main floor all day filling with dust.

Great review! I am not sure Milwaukee is in trouble as they have a huge following, but Husky makes an excellent packout kit for half the price, and especially they have the best designed fastener/small parts case I have ever seen. I bought two. 2 levels and opens up so you get full access to both trays and it has feet on the upper tray so it stays perfectly settled on the bench. AND, bonus, it has a carrying handle that folds identical to a heavy-duty tool box. And storage takes no space as you can stack them up. Could not recommend them enough. Solved 100% of my storage problems and is easily mobile to the jobsite. Cheers!

The only problem with those budget systems is they don't offer near the options for storage and accessories. None that I've looked at would be worth spending any money on for my needs. Between my small shop and my handyman business I need lots of storage for different parts and tools since one day I'm a plumber and the next I'm doing trim carpentry or electrical work or....... But that's my needs, average homeowner might be served well by those budget brands. An example is some cheap Walmart hyper tough small parts boxes I bought about two months ago. Two boxes for $13 and they interlock so you can just keep stacking them together. Clear lids and removable dividers. They came with a rubber seal that I had no hopes of being waterproof yet after bouncing around the bed of my truck the entire time and getting six inches of rain in one night they were bone dry inside and that's after sitting on their side during the rain. Not sure how long they'll last under my abuse but I'm getting more for the shop that should last.

As a toolbox enthusiast with experience using and making review videos on all of these boxes, the biggest thing to know is that ALL of these systems have pros and cons. If a “lack of accessories” is the biggest con for Milwaukee Packout, then it’s been solved by a strong community of makers. The main reason why other companies even made accessories is because they saw the Packout community do it first. If you’re looking to get into a system and you’re jealous of aspects available on other brands like Klein's bin, cup holder, or Flex’s new wall mounts, I make my own versions of all those items . My goal isn’t to just make Packout the best, many of my items work across all the systems. My goal is instead to help toolbox users overall. Other makers like Alex from packibletool, Matt from Neattools and Devin from Stack Smarter also make high quality items that expand the capabilities of your toolboxes. At the end of the day the things we need from these tool companies is bigger, better, and more unique types of boxes as soon as possible. If their design teams are working on accessories that the community can make and bring to market faster than I think the companies are wasting time and money.

@jakeweihe is right. He makes great stuff. Id love to work with him on a project. I feel I make high quality items that I use onsite. If I can break it easy I don't make it for others. I make items for all the boxes and I still think everyone is chasing milwaukee.
