I just went and bought the contactless chip reader after watching your video. I agree with the others who said keep her name close by at future events. She knew what she was doing when she disputed with her bank. In my opinion she straight up stole from you. So sorry that happened.

I just upgraded to the Square tap/chip reader because I've been hearing so many of these horror stories with the swipe. I can't believe they offer the swipe as the free reader when it's not in compliance with bank rules.

I car have the same card reader that you just got. I just learned this weekend that people can pay with their phone and this card reader. Even more convenient than using their credit card.

The swipe issue is because when fraudsters clone cards they can only swipe them. So if people dispute it there’s no real way to confirm if it was the customer using their card or if their details were stolen and used fraudulently. Chip and pin is the only way to cover yourself because only the card owner should know their PIN number. It’s on them if they disclose that information and their card is used🥰 xxx

I think it’s crazy because it does require a signature with swipe so the fact that you still can’t dispute with a signature sucks🙄 I think the chip/tap is way easier any way so I’m happy to use that instead!! Thank you for this info and thanks so much for watching!💕

I only heard about it recently through a Reddit post regarding taking card payments at craft fairs. Someone who works for a bank was super helpful by mentioning that swipe transactions will always be ruled in favor of the customer and chip readers are essentially the only way to go for protecting yourself.

Boo on Square. That seems weird that there isn't a way for you to make a counter claim with Square since the customer did get something from you. I personally haven't had that happen to me yet, but I did get a tap/chip reader to connect with my tablet that I started using. Can't wait to hear how your events go. 🤗

I am sorry that happened to you…. I have a contactless chip reader. I’ve only used it at one show so far, but I’m going to be using it this weekend. One of the reasons I got it was because you don’t have to touch peoples cards they can just tap Best of luck with your upcoming shows❤

I have the swipe & tap readers from square and a tap reader from shopify and I use my phone now too. I only fall back on the swipe reader if we lose internet or service to take a charge and pray it goes through later. However I didn’t know about the charge back thing being a reason…So now I’m keeping that in mind. Sorry that happened to you :(

You can use tap pay on your phone with the chip cards without buying the $60 reader. You just hold their card next to your phone when it prompts you.

⁠@@MadebyMandaMalI do all my market payments this way! I had originally bought the updated reader and I could never get it to work. Even had two others that had the device themselves and they couldn’t get mine to connect to my phone. Sent it back because some random vendor told me it wasn’t necessary to have! And they were right! Just hold the card up at the top of your phone horizontally and it will tap! It takes a second to figure out how to properly hold it and place it to tap! But you can do it. ♥️ If the card holder doesn’t have a tap card.. then you will have to manually put in the card info. That rarely happens to me and isn’t hard to do! Also… if someone has their card on their phone linked up.. they can literally hold their phone to yours and it will pay that way! I learned that a few months ago too! Pretty cool. Anyways. Love your videos and sorry for the rant! Hope it was helpful for someone nonetheless. 🫠♥️

You need to upgrade your reader to one that takes chip because it's becoming more normal for swiping not to be allowed on chip cards by certain banks. 🤷‍♀️

Never heard of the chip vs swipe dispute dealeo but nothing surprises me. When I was doing in person events I only had the square reader that you have to purchase so it was never an issue I encountered. Sorry it happened people are shady AF anymore!!! I truly hope I'm proven wrong but as I'm watching this everything in me is screaming DON'T do the trunk or treat event!!! I 10000% THINK everyone is going to be there for FREE CANDY not willing at all to pull out their wallets to purchase items. In fact my fear is you're going to spend the hour trying to get kids to understand they aren't free items like the trunk or treat but items that need to be purchased!!! AGAIN I'll say I hope I'm proven wrong and you do AMAZINGLY WELL and sell a ton of stuff!!!!
