fun fact: the band that does all the songs for the show, TOGENASHTOGEARI (opening, ending, songs in episodes) actually voice the main cast. Also Rina, the lead vocalist (voices Nina) is actually 16 years old which is insane.

On a second watch, Rupa is literally always instigating problems for the lulz. Wanted to fight diamond dust, lied about there being a snake, kicked down the door, etc. Girl starts minor problems for fun lol

thats not neccessarily a bad thing, its completely unrealistic to have no discourse, and the characters are under a lot of stress from their own lives, so ig an argument is a way of portraying them relieving stress. Its not the most pleasing to watch, but quite accurate to real life scenarios.

Saw a lot of positivity towards the CG animation in this show. It's amazing the amount of expression and emotions portrayed rather than a 2D animation, some things that can't even be done in 2D. I expected no less from Toei Animations themselves, great show.

Ngl I slept on the show from the start because of the CG but damn looking at it from this, they *really* went for it and made it look great, like a studio Orange show or something. I think the reason a lot of CG in anime looks bad is lack of time and experience, and heavy clashing with the main 2D art. Also imo animating 3D on 2s can very easily look terrible and choppy, doing this anime on 1s and taking a lot of care with expressions really helped, I think.

The CG is actually getting props from what I have seen about. It's probably the best-looking of its style of show I think in a while. The music bits especially do a lot for it. On fave character, I like Rupa a lot as a person. She chill. I find Nina intersting as a MC just becuase she's such a trainwreck rage-gremlin in a way that I don't think a lot of shows are willing ot have their cute anime girls be.

There are a lot of similarities between Nina and Miku from the Japanese rock band BAND-MAID. Both: are from Kumamoto have twin tails sing the classics because of their grandmother have emotional trauma from dad moved to the big city to be a singer couldn't play the guitar but learned worked in a cafe

Your hot take on Girl's Band Cry being one of the best looking anime of the last few seasons isn't even a hot take honestly, it's gotta be one of the best looking 3DCG anime I've ever seen, the expressions are on point, the animation is very smooth, and the visuals are always really good. The characters are all fun, plus the music in the show are all bangers🔥I think GBC's one of the biggest hidden gems I've ever seen

I’m between Nina and Rupa as my favs. Nina cuz she’s an absolute mess (first female mc of a show that might be my favorite character) and Rupa cuz she’s just precious (and also the first Indian character I’ve seen to drive a motorcycle which is such an Indian thing to do). But all of them r great and this show is so good.
