Schreger line are only in elephant and mamoth ivory, but at different angles that. you can differentiate between the two. Other ivory do not have schreger line as far as I know. Schreger lines only become vissable if cut into the ivory at an angle, otherwise you will not see them.

That ivory box is gorgeous! I also think the catch on the brooch has been replaced as the solder looks too fresh and new. That may have thrown the seller off, thinking it was from the 40s.

You may be right. After the video I saw an almost identical pin/brooch with a tube hinge and early safety catch, but it had a thicker pin back. I hear a lot of Victorian brooches were repaired in the early 20th century with those pad like hinges and closures. The pin is so heavy and huge the weight of it may have caused the original pin back to break.

Great instructional tutorial that will be a very useful resource for all. Thank you for your curated films and the in-depth study of various materials and periods . Beautiful piece. In my collection I have numerous early pieces of scrimshaw as I am from Cape Cod which is home of the whaling industry. Yes, the acanthus leaves are highly prevalent in architecture, jewelry, picture frames furnishings and have meaning. Dy epp eeee. The brooch is aaaamaaazzingg!!!! Good get!!!!

@@FuturesPast1 well☺️😌🥰 being kind and caring for one another is truly why we are on this blue green rolling ball. I feel you are also a kind soul who like me is wise enough to see through the mask which others wear. I just love all but know when not cross boundaries for all safety reasons. I’m going to make a new film to say hello… maybe. Lol. Later girl.

My family are Portuguese and Italian so some have the classic aquiline nose. I think it is beautiful. My sister hated her nose but it is perfect with the almond eyes and facial structure.

@@Bluewaterpinessantarosabeach I have the aquiline nose too with the huge bump in the bridge. I recently did a DNA test and found out my grandfather wasn't my real grandfather. I thought I was just Scottish and Italian. Now I found out I am 40% Italian, 40% Basque (Basque is where Spain borders France), and 20% Scottish. Now I know where I get that huge hump in the bridge of my nose from, lol.

So the ivory piece is worth good money if you can sell it without somebody being a douche and turning you in, im not that chick...sooo...How much u want for it?😉 I've been trying to score an ivory necklace, bracelet, earrings, anything and few people will sell it👎🏽
@FuturesPast1
@FuturesPast1 Жыл бұрын
Oh yes, you are right. I totally forgot most people can't sell these if they were made after the ban in the 1970s because of the ivory ban after then which I agree on. I would not like to hear people are still killing elephants to make products. If it is antique and over 100 years it is not against the law to sell at all. You can get a special form/certificate called a CITES certificate to fill out and it will allowed to be sold and exported under certain circumstances, but you have to prove it is genuinely old. It takes up to 60 days to get approved and to get a CITES form. I'm sure maybe lots of sellers can pay for one of those professional online appraisals to be done, get a certificate of proof it is antique/over 100 years old and then you are free to sell it, but just not on sites like Ebay/Etsy anymore and you just can't ship it to certain US states or certain areas of overseas. Most people don't want to be bothered doing that unless the item is worth a lot of money to go through the effort and I sort of can't blame them. I had my antique ivory item I once sold online that was from the 1840s with an official antique appraisal certificate that I paid a professional to evaluate that it was truly an antique. In my case I don't think I will be willing to sell it unless I get at least $1,200+ for it but to be honest I don't bother selling my antiques anymore. However, I also happen to love it too much to probably even ever let it go for any amount of money. I saw a lot of people like Antiques and Uncommon Treasures selling antique ivory:antiques-uncommon-treasure.com/search?q=ivory When I once sold (10+ years ago), an antique 1840s wood and ivory box for $995 on Etsy I had no issue getting selling it, so sometimes it can go through without a snafu. Now if you even write the word IVORY even as a color in an Etsy listing, their bots usually remove your listing automatically. The box I once sold over 10 years ago was exactly like this, but twice the size: antiques-uncommon-treasure.com/products/antique-victorian-era-vizagapatam-horn-carved-ivory-desk-casket-stamps-box?_pos=4&_sid=0f5abbd4d&_ss=r If it is genuinely antique I do not see a problem with the morality and legality of selling anything ivory as the animal wasn't extinct at the time and you are doing no harm to the animal now. I saw a bunch of people selling antique ivory on some websites saying it will come with one of those CITES forms/certificates stating it is over 100 years old. It's just a pain in the ass to have to do that for something so old and pre-ban. I saw quite a few people online selling antique ivory, so they went though the trouble to get the certificate and age proof that they state they have allowing them to ship it out after it is sold (to only certain places). Maybe a lot of people aren't aware you can get one of those certificates/forms, but my guess is they just don't want to go through paperwork headaches getting it done or paying to have a professional appraisal form.

@@jeweledmirrorqueen That is so awesome. Hooray! Your last treatment. That is fantastic. My husband is still having pain from the residual chemo and has neurotrophy now. He is very sensitive to cold air and even sticking his hand in the freezer gives him terrible pain in his hands and fingers. He tried to go back to the gym and tried lifting weights again, but came home in pain and sore. The doctor told him his body has to heal and it will take a bit longer for him to be able to do normal activities. He was a gym rat before he got sick so he is not a happy camper having to sit idle, lol. I am rooting for you and will say some more prayers for you. Please keep me updated on your condition. I care about you.
