Having been to both, we chose Malaga (actually one town over, Torremolinos). For sure, Valencia's Turia park is an amazing thing, and the City of Arts and Sciences is an amazing structure, but the southern coast wins it for me. Valencia's large, wide beaches didn't seem to have the character that the province of Malaga's have. Also, the relative cleanliness of the cities is a win for Malaga, and the overall aesthetic in Malaga is what I prefer. Thanks for sharing your visit.

There seems to be TONS of british people in Torremolinos and Benalmádena, lol. How easy it is to get to Torremolinos by train (and how long does it take)??? I'm thinking about to move out there. Last question: is it possible to get there by bike or scooter by any chance?
@MikeS29
@MikeS29 Ай бұрын
@@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy - there are people from all over Europe, Brits included. Not quite like the Levante area of Benidorm, mind you, but enough to make finding an English-speaking doctor easy enough, although we are working on our Spanish. The train is super easy and quick to Torremolinos. From Malaga (downtown or main station of Maria Zambrano) the C1 train leaves every 20 minutes, and Torremolinos is about 20 minutes away. There are 3 or 4 stops in Torremolinos. Likewise running from Torremolinos into Malaga is also a breeze. The Airport stop is between Malaga and Torremolinos for easy, direct flights all over Europe and North Africa. As for bike infrastructure, there are great bike paths in Malaga and Torremolinos, but I don't think the connection is yet completed, so it would require some surface streets to complete the journey. The bike infrastructure is always growing. There are plans to have a single waterfront walking and biking trail from Nerja to Estepona 🙂, but that might take some time.

I am from a town near Valencia (my town is not much) but I live less than 10 kilometers from the center of Valencia and the same distance to go to several beaches...but where we are going...there are many cities and many towns (each with its peculiarities) anywhere in Spain, and they all have the same reality...if you have a job) you live very well, and any of them is near the sea or close (3 hours) to a ski slope in winter...so choose where it makes you happy and live comfortably...saludos

I'm fortunate enough to live in Málaga and I have to say I love it. One of the things I love most is that Andalusian people are extremely friendly compared to Madrileños (I'm not sure about Valencianos) and if you want to integrate fully into Spanish society, this is one of the best places to do it while still having things that make you feel comfortable as a foreigner.

I live in the north, I was born here, I work here. I don't know Valencia, Malaga yes...I don't change my region for anything. And I don't make a mistake by staying here, and when I retire, I will stay here, with my rain, my humidity, maybe with my rheumatism, but here, always here... and getting to know the rest of Spain, which is very beautiful and I love it... but I will continue here.

Never been to Valencia, so I can't really comment about it. But Malaga is a very vibrant city. It is becoming in the last 10 years in a tec hub. Considering that it is in the Mediterranean, it might be the only city with both features (tec hub and tourist hub). Can't wait to visit Valencia!

I'll pick Málaga still for now. Though the centro/east has gentrified a lot, and got more expensive in the last 2 years or so. But east of the airport is pretty good still :) They have to do more to protect the Spanish with rent controls and airbnb limits though.

La Barra de Zapata in the core downtown Malaga area = is in my Top 5 restaurant experiences I have ever had in all of my world travels. A nice Venezuelan couple who have merged Spanish Tapas with their own creative Latin fusion style. Might need to get a reservation but if you are still in town make sure you try that place out. I went back and forth on Malaga vs. Valencia, and there are so many pros to both places. In the end, I still decided to live in Orlando, FL, for 8 months and then travel to different places in Europe, including San Sebastian, which beats most other Spanish cities in the summer with its much better weather. Edinburgh is another nice summer retreat from the weather, and if you and your husband ever go Antoanetta, a must-visit to the Black Grape restaurant in Edinburgh (in my Top 5 with Zapata) is a must visit restaurant experience.

We have been to both and chose Malaga because we like the Costa del Sol area over the Costa Blanca area of Valencia. The Costa del Sol coastline has a string of towns from Nerja, Malaga, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, La Cala De Mijas, and Marbella to Estepona that-to us- offer a nicer retirement lifestyle. However, Valencia is a more stunning city compared to Malaga, and if we had to choose just a city, Valencia would be hard to beat. It is a little too busy for us retirees.

Thanks for the video. I lived in Valencia for six months quite a while ago and went back a few times, so I obviously love it as a "right-size" city (I currently live in Mexico City, bigger than LA!) This is the first video I have seen about Malaga and it is quite beautiful. However, I couldn't help but notice in the very first minutes that pretty much all the people sitting on the patios looked like expats rather than locals. This prompts my question: is Malaga's reputation as an expat bubble exaggerated or warranted? And how does it impact the cost of living, affordable housing supply, etc., compared to Valencia?

Valéncia hands down for me. I do like Màlaga, its old town, beautiful cathedral and picturesque landscapes, however, I hated the beaches there. The sand feels "dirrty", lots of stones and the water is cold even in summer. Also, I felt more claustrophobic in Màlaga. In València, with beautiful wide beaches, Turia gardens, albufera natural park, I feel I have lots of space to breathe and relax. Honestly, I actually prefer Sevilla than Màlaga and for me it would make more sense to compare València with Sevilla 😉

I have been here for two years and dealing with government has been extremely easy. We had way more difficulties dealing with the process in the United States than here. If you learn about the process instead of being self-centered and expecting things to be the way you want them to be your experience would be a different one. You attract what you experience in your life.

Valencia is dirty and smells bad, and you get roasted by the heat. The city of arts and sciences is falling apart Calatrava and the construction companies used materials of poor quality. Malaga has a less torrid microclimate. This lady prefers filth, it is her right, everyone has the right to choose what is best for them, Good luck.

You do realize that the Mediterranean Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world? Just because you waive a flag at the beach does not make it clean. Also, you can't compare California to Malaga; its like comparing apples to oranges. The reason California waters are so cold is because the currents come from Alaska. Just like you can't compare the northern beaches of Spain to the Southern beaches of Spain or the eastern beaches in Ibiza. Can't you make a video without making a disparaging about the U.S. Stop beating the dead horse already!

Why are you disparaging her? You don't have to agree, and you don't have to watch. She is just comparing her own experiences and giving her opinion according to those experiences. There is nothing wrong with anything she said, especially because I think she is correct, and I grew up in California. You don't even have the guts to use a recognizable name, so your comment is pretty much worthless as you are just a troll.

@@rabukan5842 I take issue with her divisive comments because she thrives on click bait biased KZbin videos that are not accurate and are constantly comparing the U.S. to Spain. Her perspectives are very narrowed and do not reflect all of California just portions of the state. I get it, she is trying to sell her Valencia guide, but she does not have accurate data if any data to back up her assumptions. I doubt she has even visited all of California, just portions of it.
