The fact you took the time to do this video on top of doing the exact build sheet with part numbers and specs. That shows you the real deal car guy. Us people that love this thing want to enjoy the same thing you have built and no one shares that much info. That is something in itself that is greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

I like the kind of rough, no to street friendly setup. The rough idle, the noise. In a world of over sanitized, too clean pain, and cars that look more show than go, it’s refreshing.

Hey Craig, I fuggin' love this truck! I'm sure I have watched every video you've posted about it. My Dad picked up a 71' about 15 years ago for a project. Did a frame-off build. Bought a 69' Ranger for a rust free cab. Bought a 98' Explorer and used the Engine (302 w/GTP Heads), most of the leather interior, and the 4-links off the rear. Bought a 89' Mustang GT and used the Gauges, Rear End, and the ECM. (He kept it EFI!) Port matched the intake to heads, used a E303 cam, and Headers. Did a 6-different-can of Ford paint mixture to come up with a pretty awesome Blue. He still needed to do a Disc Brake conversion, to have it "Road Worthy". Well here came health issues for him and I moved out of state. The truck sat for 6-7 years, and one of our trips down to visit, I got ahold of a tandem trailer to go pick up the truck. The phone call with my Mom before we headed down revealed she got rid of the truck a week prior....that was 5 years ago. I'm still pissed about it! His passing will be a year ago next month (OCT 8) and I wanted his truck as is. But I would find it hard to build one much different than your setup. So hey man, didn't mean to leave a story on this vid, but you keep posting, and I'll keep watching!

The idea of "over building" something implies that there is a misalignment between the goal and the result of the build. Some folks like the build process, some like the driving, some like the show scene, some focus on racing/competition. The nature of the build should align with the intended use, and it can be a serious bummer if you spend a bunch of time, effort, money, and emotion on building a car one way just to find out it's not good at whatever you chose, or that it's not what you really wanted/needed. But what I infer from this video is that you have maybe changed a bit of what you want from the build since finishing this version. Nothing wrong with that. It may be exactly what you set out to build, even reaching a kind of actualized ideal. But it doesn't have to remain as-is if it can be something (you deem) better.
@cobyfield9237
@cobyfield9237 2 ай бұрын
you summed it up very well. I'm only a year younger than Craig and yeah.. what you wanted 4-6 years ago most likely will have changed slightly due to more knowledge, experience, priorities, etc. It's why gearheads usually have multiple cars.. but also far too many get in over their heads with expectations sometimes too.

What about a back bumper? Like hello? Or you could re put the neon like front headlights back on? Also what about the two exhausts relocated in the back like a Ford Raptor? Just Some thoughts

I've had that pogo experience once in my 72 long bed. It had a stock 390 with a 3 speed and a w piece drive shaft. I was pulling out of a dirt road and onto the pavement when I shifted into 2nd and dumped my clutch. That's when the carrier bearing failed and the rear of the truck went upwards. It took me 2 weeks to find another two piece drive shaft. I had also removed a few leafsprings and pulled out my coilsprings to lower it. I put it all back to stock after but I was 19 and not too bright 😂

If you want to quiet the truck down without much power loss, consider adding electric cutouts then two 24" glasspacks for when you don't want to set alarms off. My 302 MGB has dual 2.25" exhausts, no H or X pipe, and two 2' glasspacks with turndowns. It's surprisingly quiet while still sounding meaner than any little 1.8L MG ever could

I think if you put a Y pipe with electric cutouts on there and ran some say venom 250s out the back of the truck it would make it much more drivable. You could have the nice loud exhaust when you want it at the push of a button and cruise with a bearable noise level when desired.

Personally, I'd like to see some NVH and comfort improvements, considering it's already a weapon. MLV with a foam decoupling layer sound deadener. Semi bucket seats with a lapsash is an excellent idea, as you've said. A reverse camera would be a nice addition in this age of small parking spaces and gigantic trucks/SUVs. Exhaust redirection valve to cut over to the biggest mufflers you can fit. GPS headunit to tie in with the camera, but integrated with the original aesthetic. Do you have AC in that rig? Always a winner. I'm not sure what options you have regarding a change in cam profile/lift/duration to improve the idle and whether an organic clutch option exists that works with that box and your driving style.

So, to answer your question at the end....yeah 👍 all of that!! If you want too. I like the fact that it's "only 500hp". I like realistic builds with streetable engines. I can't afford these 1000+ hp builds with suspension and drivetrain parts to match! 400-600hp is plenty for street applications. If you're going to the track, that's different. Nothing wrong with that. More power too you .👍👍 I love racing no matter what! I'm a street guy and I like vehicles in the power range your truck is making.💪💪

Do you see yourself doing a classic daily driver build at some point? Maybe something like a first gen mustang but with a drivetrain that can attain a reasonable mpg (maybe around 20), AC, and some features like audio, sound deadening, etc? You’ve got some sweet stuff but I don’t think I see anything classic you’d gladly hop into for a 1k road trip or something. Sounds like the exhaust might be one thing to change since you mentioned several times being self-conscious. Accordingly, it would be cool to see before-and-after chassis dyno results comparing the current exhaust to one that goes up, over the rear axle, and exits out the sides. I'd be very interested to see the effect of the additional exhaust path changes of direction. I have a '69 Bronco with a 426 Windsor and the only mufflers I could package (due to the complexity of my rear suspension) were Magnaflows with the inlets and outlets at the same end of the muffler so the exhaust has to go in, make a U-turn, and then come back out. I love the sound but I wonder how much performance I'm sacrificing.

Definitely paying for the patreon to get the full specs. Only thing in curious about is if it would all work with a stock 289 crank. Not against a 302 crank, just saving a few dollars would help.

Take it on power tour next year I remember Salomon told you bring your own car next year, and that was like two years ago, so this truck will be perfect for it. go fot it.

Just make a second exhaust setup with super10’s? For me they are extremely streetably quiet so it might work while still being nice and meaty. What I do is I will bump my muffler to about .5” over pipe size to help that high rpm flow if your really worried about that

I'm surprised that you don't get tickets for excessive noise from your exhaust system.

If you pull the 302 id like to see you put a 460 in it .. a aluminum headed 460 weighs just 50 pounds more than a 87-93 5.0 with all its fuel inj. Smog wiring harness computer n everything that comes out .. plus just an ordinary 460 block will hold up to 1200 plus horsepower … i have a mild 460 in my 77 F100 with a 5 speed and a 175 shot of nitrous and ive hurt some feelings in town .. with your knowledge you would have a straight up beast !!!!

A street tire drags series might be fun... I figure that's the best way to get the real daily drivers out... guys out on 200+ treadwear tires... but maybe it's silly to even try that that on the strip.

Nolan @ Isky Cams can design you a camshaft that will still sound and run as good but be a more friendly driver. Just an idea. Best of luck. Take Care!!!
