You are definitely not supposed to have it all figured out at 24! You're just starting to figure things out then. For mysteries, the Diving In podcast did a fun episode called "Literary Scandals, Hoaxes and Controversies" that dug into some wild stories. Some of them are Australian. It was fun!

I'm about to be 38 and I have basically nothing figured out. Seriously, don't worry about having everything settled in your life by mid-twenties. I know it doesn't feel like it right now (because cultural and societal pressure sucks) but you still have lots and lots of time ahead of you to change and grow.

Have you heard of Cain’s Jawbone. It’s a mystery book that you have to actually put the pages in order to solve the murder and who was murdered and only a handful of people have solved it in the like 90 years since it was published! I feel like that would make a good video!!

LOL, I'm turning 26 this year, so I vividly remember feeling similarly. 24 is a number that feels like it should be a transition into "adulthood", but it doesn't have to be! Hell, I think there's no such thing as a real adult. I hope you aren't too down about not reading these books, you read like 150 books last year! That's insane! Also, I don't know how, but last year one of your videos was recommended for me (weird because before that I hadn't really read much since middle school), and it got me back into reading somehow. I started reading again last June, and since then I have read 91 books! I forgot how much I love to read, and your videos reminded me how much I love it. I also have your videos to thank for some of my favorites that I've read! Anyway, TLDR You're doing great, your videos are great, and you are really appreciated!

Elimor Glyn was a popular novelist who was on the yacht of publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst, when movie producer Thomas Ince died under mysterious circumstances. Not sure how involved she was or how much Glyn might have known about the death. The rumor has always been that Hearst killed Ince and paid everyone on the boat to keep quiet. Film and print medium heavyweights coming together in one mystery. I'm not sure of the exact time frame, but it had to have been the 1920s. Might be a good one for you to look at.

I like to read a nonfiction by chipping away on it a few pages or a chapter at a time. It might take a while - a month, two months, a year, who knows, but at the end of each year I've managed to complete more nonfiction this way. If it becomes compelling, of course I can read it faster too. I really enjoyed In the Dream House. I too am scared off by highly rated books. Finding a book I've never heard of and reading it without expectations has become a treat these days. As for figuring things out by 24, I have to laugh. I can fit almost three 24's inside my birthdays and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up. So, y'know, you've got time still. 💚

I learned that my taste in fantasy is incredibly narrow. It must have a secret world that seems perfect but is really decaying, creepy, and a lie. So naturally that means nutcracker retelling which there are a sad lack of available to me. Also I highly recommend audiobooks for nonfiction. Its more compelling and easier to get through than physical reading I think

As for bookish mysteries there is the Cliff Janeway series of books the first one is Booked To Die by John Dunning. The first book is set in the early 90's and follows an ex-cop who becomes a bookseller. All of the books give an inside look into the world of book selling. I've read all of the books in the series and they were all good. Another book would be Midnight At The Bright Ideas Bookstore by Matthew Sullivan set in Denver in a second hand bookstore. One of the clerks decides to look into the supposed suicide of one of her regulars.

I'm here to talk you out of reading Tell Me Everything. As an actual professional in the victim services field, that book made me feel physically ill with the amount of misinformation and irresponsibility in it. That author has no integrity and the fact that she profited off of blatant miseducation in a field already so hurt by societal mythology really bothers me. The author is not a true professional, she has no education about sexual assault or trauma stewardship, and the book serves only as an ego trip for her
