Did JESUS ALREADY RETURN? - Preterist Perspective of Revelation 1:7

Dan explores Revelation 1.7 and contends that it was firstly fulfilled in the first century during the culmination of the Roman/Jewish war: the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple.
Scripture References: Revelation 1.7; Daniel 7.13; Zechariah 12.10; Matthew 24.30; Matthew 4.17; Matthew 23.37-38; Acts 3.19-20; Acts 21.20; Revelation 22.12; Revelation 1.19
What do you think? Is it fair to think that the coming of Jesus referenced in Revelation 1.7 refers to Jesus coming in judgment -- that is, Israel receiving the consequences of rejecting Jesus?

Though commentator G.K. Beale does not agree with Preterist interpretations of this verse, he does concede that verse 7 can be understood as Jesus coming in judgement at different points in history, understanding that everything will culminate in his final “second coming.”
“…Christ’s coming in v. 7 and elsewhere in Revelation is understood better as a process occurring throughout history, so that His so-called ‘second coming’ is actually a final coming concluding the whole process of comings. Consequently His ‘comings’ in blessing and judgment throughout the course of time are but manifestations of His exercise of latter-day authority.” (“Revelation: A Shorter Commentary” by G. K. Beale)

I’m not sure, but I am sure that the tribulation already happened and culminated with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD. Luke 21 is the most misunderstood text in the Bible…. Every time there is an earthquake or a famine, or a war people start screaming Luke 21! Matthew 24!!!!! When in reality, those chapters are about the destruction of the temple not us today

Ya imo revelation isn’t that important. I only say this because it’s the centerpiece of every false doctrine, cult, and endless fear and anxiety of people who don’t understand it. My life would be 100% better if this book wasn’t in the Bible twisting the minds of people in my life. People love to foam at the mouth over this book yet casually ignore the rest of the New Testament that could actually improve their lives. Sad.

True. More importantly, the entire Bible makes sense through Preterism. (Eph 2:6-7) Preterists know that Jesus finished his short work and we can have God's Peace & Joy as it is intended rather than always looking for things (e.g. The "Antichrist," Donald Trump re-elected, The Mark of the Beast, Jesus saving us from the Kardashians etc etc)

Judgement and Salvation both came at the second coming ( When the temple was destroyed). ( Is. 65:15-18, Dan 12:1-7, Mathew 24:42-51, LK 21:28 and many others). The primary theme of the Book of Revelation is the judgement on Israel and the redemption of the remnant of Israel along with the gentiles. ). The new covenant, along with the new heavenly Jerusalem (Heb. 11:16) is the new heavens and the new earth. There will be no end to Christ reign (and therefore it no last days) (Isiah 9:7, Lk 1:33, Dan. 7:14).

@@variologies Wouldn't this mean that the Thousand years of peace of Christ has also, already happened? And that we are now in the time of "The Deception of the Nations"? And if so, we should Not be expecting any Anti-Christ to come, but Christ to come once more? I mean really, if we are in the deception of the nations (Timeline) we would never know it anyway. The only way to "Know" is by taking the bible word for word. I believe the millennial kingdom has passed. All of the magnificent Old World structures were not built by any of our time over the last hundred of years. I believe they were built during the millennial reign in celebration of Christ Jesus’ 2nd Coming. We are those souls who died before Christ. That must be given a chance to accept or reject Christ. I think too. That may be why many people feel they’ve experienced a prior life.

The Jewish War. Book VI: Of the War.Josephus. (Courtesy of the University of Chicago): "For, before sun setting, chariots and troops of soldiers in their armour were seen running about among the clouds, and surrounding of cities. Moreover, at that feast which we call Pentecost; as the priests were going by night into the inner [court of the] temple, as their custom was, to perform their sacred ministrations, they said, that in the first place they felt a quaking, and heard a great noise: and after that they heard a sound, as of a multitude, saying, “Let us remove hence.” But what is still more terrible; there was one Jesus ..." [HEGESIPPUS, ch. 44]“A certain figure appeared of tremendous size, which many saw, just as the books of the Jews have disclosed, and before the setting of the sun there were suddenly seen in the clouds chariots in the clouds and armed battle arrays by which the cities of all Iudaea and its territories were invaded.

You are correct because according to the Antiquities of Flavius Josephus the war of the Jews Josephus wrote that there were Armies of Chariots in the sky and the Roman Historian Tacitus wrote that there were Armies of Chariots in the sky pouring down fire onto the Temple so because of those writings that is evidence that Jesus came back between 66ad and 70Ad to pour out his judgements on Jerusalem and the temple, Jesus told the Pharisees that they will see him he told them that they would be charged with the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias and all the innocent blood within the Earth and that it would happen in their generation and they were the ones that were responsible for crucifying Jesus. Jesus also told Caiaphas that he will see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. What throws most preachers and other Christians off us when they read in Matthew 24 when it says : And he will gather his elect from the four winds of heaven from one end of heaven to the other Immediately they believe that this is referring to the rapture of the Saints but this is not referring to the rapture we have to understand what the four winds of heaven means The four winds of heaven are spiritual agents of God prepared for war just like the valley of dry bones God told Ezekiel to prophecy to the four winds of heaven that the dead bodies will receive breath and when Ezekiel prophesied to the four winds of heaven the dead bodies received breath and stood upon their feet. The four winds are spirits that stands before the Lord of the Earth so the Elect are spiritual agents coming from out of the four winds of heaven Just like in Daniel 7:2 Daniel said in his night

Vision that the four winds strove into the sea and then he began to see the beasts. In 1 Thessalonians 4 it is a big difference it says that those that are alive and remain shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. So the Elect coming out of the four winds which is God's Armies. Already in heaven And those that are alive and remain shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. Two very big differences and we as the church have to understand that. I don't know Greek or Hebrew interpretation but the Holy Ghost teaches me as I apply myself. Most preachers believe that there is no way that Jesus came between 66ad and 70Ad because of that very scripture about the Elect coming from the four winds. Because we are still here but as you have already indicated Jesus came in judgment " Not to rapture the Church if he was coming to rapture the Church he would not have told his disciples to run to the Mountains Amen 🙏!

it's overwhelming to absorb it all in a short time. It took me 5 years of serious study to unlearn & relearn what the Bible actually says. I'll start with one question: Does "1,000" in Hebrew culture mean "the number of 'things' that is literally between 999 and 1,001 such as years? The Biblical answer is a clear "No." 1. Ps 105:8 He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a 1,000 generations, & Dt 7:9God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a 1,000 generations, All scholars agree that the Old Covenant made with Abraham lasted until Jesus. was it 1,000 generations? Mt answers that: 17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah. Therefore, "1,000 = 42" in this example. 2. Rev 9:16 The army had 200 million soldiers on horses. there are only 25M soldiers in the world today and 14M horses of battle age. One army cannot create a herd of 200M trained horses ever. The valley of Meggido can only hold 1M horses packed in. The other 199M would corcle the earth even if they were in battle array. the point is 1,000 is not literal. It means "many," or "complete" in Hebrew.

The 1000 years is not literal, the same way "the cattle on a thousand hills belong to the Lord" isn't literal. Really, just 1000 hills? I thought "the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof." They used large, round numbers for emphasis, the same way we say "if I've told you once, I've told you a million times."
@johno2277
@johno2277 Ай бұрын
We know "1,000" is not literal because Psalms says "a thousand generations" from Abraham to Jesus. Mt says 14 generations. It was not 42,000 years. Each person would have lived 3,000 years. "Thousand" is an idiom meaning "a lot" or "many" as in "People have already told you 1,000 times that 1,000 is not literal!"

Sorry if you covered this and I didn't see it. The "judgement" is one thing that puzzles me. In John (and the New Testament?) Jesus is described as becoming a "cosmic" judge. One who will raise the dead and judge both those who never died and those (once) dead. I thought this was literal and taking place at one time. If so it's hard to imagine this has already happened? How would this even be spiritualized? What's really hard for me to accept about preterism is that Jesus has already returned but that this wasn't made public knowledge to the remaining church or the public, for 2,000 years.... it's possible and we trust that whatever God does he does out of wisdom and good will, but it's just hard for me to accept at this time. (I may not be taking Partial Preterism into account here though)

@hillaryfamily 9 ай бұрын
The “world” (cosmos) in the gospel of John isn’t the planet or all the nations, it is the “system” that controlled Second Temple Israel at that time. The Lord came, as he said, to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. The “world” that the Father loved and sent his son into was the vineyard, the world that saw the son and said this is the heir, let us kill him and take the inheritance. For that world the Lord gave his life to save it. Yet he saved it by destroying the house made with hands and in three days raising up a new house, the true temple, the kingdom of God. This is from Daniel, where the Fourth Kingdom is totally shattered when the kingdom of God comes. It is the Fourth Beast that is judged and destroyed when the son of man comes in power on the clouds to destroy its little horn. John the Baptist applied this against the Israel of his day which would be judged with unquenchable fire and burned up like stubble and blown away by the wind in Mat. 3 applying Dan. 2. It would soon be fulfilled against the Pharisees and the Sadducees, when their “tree” would be cut down by the axe. Likewise the Lord applied Dan. 2, 7, 9 and 12 to the judgement of his generation of Second Temple Israel and her city and temple in Mat. 7:24-27; 21:33-45; 24:15-35 etc. This is “cosmic” judgement upon Israel as “heaven and earth” that pass away when the kingdom of God comes and the new heaven and the new earth come in the form of the New Covenant. Remember that the Lord said he would destroy the temple made with hands and raise up the new temple built without hands in three days? The temple made without hands is the new creation of resurrected Israel, in fulfilment of Hosea 6, “on the third day he will raise us [Israel] up.” Israel was dead in sin. The new covenant is to raise up the whole house of Israel and Judah, Jer. 31; Ez. 37. To understand Revelation you need to understand the Old Testament, which is where the symbols come from. The Fourth Beast, Second Temple Israel, was to be taken over by a rebel, the little horn, which would be a government that would rule for time, times and half a time and persecute the true people of God in the Great Tribulation. That figure would be destroyed along with Second Temple Israel by the kingdom of God. This is exactly what happens in Rev. 11. The beast arises from the abyss and rules for time, times and half a time, when the holy city is trampled underfoot for 42 months by the nations. The beast kills the witnesses of God in Jerusalem and then the people who destroyed the land of Israel are themselves destroyed when the kingdom of God comes. The history bears this out. The Zealot beast arose on the land and ruled for 42 months as a rebel government. The holy city was trampled underfoot and the Second Temple fell and the rebel government and the temple and the city and the country were totally shattered. This is “cosmic” judgement upon that “world” and its rulers and kings and people. The people who fall in Revelation are “the tribes of the land” “the people of the land” “the kings of the land” and “those who say they are Jews but are the Synagogue of Satan.” Which “land” do you suppose was being referred to if not the land of Israel? Which “Satan” (Adversary) do you suppose was better referred to if not the Jerusalem Establishment and the unbelieving Jews? The Satan was the dragon, as explained in Rev. 12. It was the dragon that was the ancient serpent of Is. 27 to be slain at the blast of the Great Trumpet when Israel would be regathered. This dragon was wayward last days Israel which under Herod had attempted to kill Christ as an infant as explained in Rev. 12. In Rev. 13 that ancient snake’s throne is taken over for 42 months by a new entity, a beast from the sea (abyss) that would make it go crazy for time, times and half a time. This is right out of Dan. 7, the little horn, that would take over the Fourth Beast before the Kingdom of God came in power at the judgement of the son of man on the clouds. This would be fulfilled soon after the book was written against the tribes of the land per Rev. 1:7. The book is clear as to who is who if you read the Old Testament. It is the Old Testament in Is. 65-66 which explains that the old heaven and the old earth is the old Israel and the new creation is the New Jerusalem.

This argument is valid and I understand that it is perplexing. I have questioned the Lord why He allows ignorance of His final coming in judgment in A.D. 70 if that were true and isn't false teachings on the subject bringing reproach to His name before the unbelievers. I was led to revisit 1 Corinthians 13 which shed new light on His design for His Kingdom in the new covenant age. It is God's desire that His love emanating through His people towards one another be the overarching characteristic defining His Kingdom despite the nonconsensus due to partial knowledge. In fact, it is the will of God for us to grow spiritually until His Love is increased within us, in proportion to the decline of the importance of knowledge, prophecy, and tongues for our unity. These spiritual gifts are only necessary as long as God's love, which is perfect is still in formation in His people. Faith, hope, and love must remain, but the greatest of all is love. Whether or not this resonates as true to anyone else, it left me in awe of God.
@youngknowledgeseeker
@youngknowledgeseeker 2 ай бұрын
@sishrac Thank you for your response and ideas. I agree that God's main desire is for us to love one another as he has taught us how to love (Jesus in John says something relevant to this "They will know [my disciples] by their love for one another" and of course Jesus clarifying the greatest commandments "Love God and love your neighbor as yourself"). However the resurrection was perhaps equally important if not more important as a concept. It was *the* defining hope of these people and Jesus's grand promise, I think Paul calls it one of the [now revealed] mysteries of the ages, something God had planned to do before he even starting creating the world. All that said, you can see how it's perplexing that our scriptures portray the (supposedly) coming resurrection as all important (1 Cor 15, 1 and Thessalonians for example), but then it happens and no one knows or records it or engraves it in the mind of history in a powerful way. Just two tiny somewhat obscure excerpts from two non-christian historians. So again, while love will forever be the characteristic of the Kingdom people, their is still the issue of "where is the Kingdom?", "Where is the resurrection, why isn't death defeated?", "Why has every tear not been wiped away yet". Etc

People have discussed the return of Jesus and asked each other: Has Jesus really returned? How has Jesus returned? Why did Jesus not come in the clouds of glory as the New Testament declared? Why can Jesus not be born as a baby again? But if open-minded people will consider these options for a moment, they will surely see that if Jesus came in the clouds of glory with the angels, he will be of little help to mankind. Because we will be in vastly different vibratory frequencies and how can Jesus teach from the sky? And if Jesus were to be born as a baby again, there will be all the unproductive years of him growing up and how will teachers cope with him? Jesus will be more argumentative than his last time on earth. To Christian Churches of every denomination, I say: WAKE UP! The time has come for you to rouse yourselves from a long unnatural sleep when reason has been suppressed by hypnotic and emotional traditions. These have been handed down through the centuries by a succession of people claiming to be the highest authority on all that Jesus taught. Do not be afraid of the consequences if you examine your past beliefs and want to cleanse them from your thinking. Get rid of the cobwebs of illusion and - THINK! When Christian ministers fully accept that Jesus has truly returned to speak to people worldwide, like lightning striking from East to West and are ready to teach the true message of Jesus - you will find your churches filling again with people eager to find and make contact with the Reality which will lead them to live in total harmony with their TRUTH of BEING. Alternatively, you ministers of religion, who wilfully and egotistically continue to teach the dogma of Christianity to save face and your stipends, will watch your religion die a natural death and will be abandoned by your congregations who some are already sensing that your words are only words - in which there is no spiritual life. You ministers of religion will see your churches taken over by those who have realized that Jesus has indeed returned to mankind to reshow them the way to find and enter the Kingdom of Heaven. There will also be those whose positions of authority are threatened by the TRUTH - which are in the Christ Letters and in A Course In Miracles. They will oppose them mightily. Just as Jesus came in human body over 2000 years ago, to rescue the Jewish nation from religious beliefs and practices, so has Jesus returned through the medium of the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love distributed worldwide, to make it abundantly clear that the "Christian Religion" in no way reflects his true CHRIST message either as he taught it in Jerusalem - or at this present time when the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love will arouse the fury and condemnation of orthodox "Christians." The Christian religion, as it stands at this time, is only a hotchpotch of the muddled thinking of the disciples' selective recollections and Paul's worthy homilies and other early writings. Much later, when the impact of Christianity lacked the visual effect of the gods and goddesses of the Romans, the Christian religion was adorned with "theatrical" but "expedient" nonsense to impress those whom the Ecclesiastical Empire of Rome desired to draw into their fold. This empire later imposed monetary burdens on the gullible people even more iniquitous than the taxes demanded by the secular Roman Empire on conquered nations. Even Caesar did not demand payment for souls to gain entrance to heaven! You may wonder why Jesus is so explicit in his rejection of "Judaism" and "Christianity." It is vital to the success of the distribution of his CHRIST MESSAGE that people should fully understand the true nature of religions which held humankind in their grip until the 20th century. Therefore, until Christians do realize the mythical foundations on which they have placed all their convictions, Christians will find it difficult to let go of cherished beliefs. Please understand that when Jesus makes such statements, he is referring to "Christian religion," to the "tenets of faith," to the "dogma and theology." Jesus is not referring to those great spiritual souls who have sought - and continue to seek God and Truth beyond the dogma and beliefs. Jesus knows Christians have received the inspiration of God into their minds and hearts but are afraid to let go of cherished beliefs. Christians are hampered by religious beliefs and practices. But the time has come for Christians to let them go and grow in spiritual wisdom.

He was qualified to preach and teach in an exclusive temple He removed from the temple those he deemed were turning it into a den for thieves Even those that wanted to murder him held him in high esteem. Who was he? What position did he hold? How did he dress? The Roman's made it clear his clothes had value, the lady with an issue saw the significance in the hem of his garment Does anyone know who Jesus was? I honestly don't believe most of us would recognize Jesus if He was walking amongst us !! Also, I think often about what it was like or how it happened, the moment it "clicked" for Him.. that He was God.. like do you think He always just knew.. or did He put all the pieces together and figure it out on His own or did God just tell Him who He was ?! It must have been frustrating for Him trying to get people to believe Him or maybe it wasn't because He knew all along that's how it was going to be so He was mentally prepared for it ?! I would love to meet teenage Jesus !!! I know one of the first descriptive words that comes to mind when you hear Jesus is "Perfect" or "sinless"... but I think He was probably more regular than we tend to picture 🤷🏽‍♀️ also.. if He knew who He was wouldn't that have made it easier to endure the human temptations the rest of us face ?! Or was it actually harder because He knew He HAD to be perfect ?! Either way... for everything we do know about Him...there's so much we still don't know !!

I am still thinking these things through. It seems symbolically and spiritually we have been resurrected by the Lord and are seated with him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6) and we have been translated into the kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13). This may possibly fulfill the prophetic passages of 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15. I think Christians are living in the new heavens and new earth now following AD 70. Christians need to be careful to be in God's will and sharing Christ and the Gospel with others. I do not believe there will be a repeat of the Great Tribulation in the future as in a dual prophecy (immediate and future), because the Lord said, "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be" (Matthew 24:21, KJV). After Christian believers pass away, they will be taken somehow to heaven and given immortal souls -- a place the Lord has prepared for them (John 14:2-3). Perhaps this final event corresponds with 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15. Continue to seek helpful information on these subjects.

Revelation 1:17 is basically what Jesus told Caiaphas he would see: "Hereafter shall you see the Son for man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven". (Matthew 26:62-66). All of this stuff is first century judgment language. Jesus told them that ALL of the blood of the righteous would be upon them... their generation.(Matthew 23:35) It would be the most terrible judgement ever, and there would never be another one like it. Thus, the great tribulation "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (Matthew 24:21). There was never a judgement like this before where ALL of the blood guilt back to Abel would be required on a single generation. All of this makes so much sense with a preterist view, or what I just call, a biblical view of prophecy.

A lovely interpretation. We need to remain ever humble, because, as a human, we will never be omniscient. And, accordingly, we need to remain ever humble to the Truth which is not yet ours, but which guides us back toward Heaven and God. Recently had an "Aha!" moment on John 3:13. It seems that Christ was the first to graduate from God's "Physical University," and after ascending to Heaven, came back to be born as Yeshua in Nazareth. Which one of the characters (if any) in the Old Testament were an earlier incarnation of Christ -- the one who finally made it, ahead of everyone else? Answering this could be so inspiring to us all -- to know that the expert and first graduate came back to be our mentor and guide.

At this time I agree with you that Christ did come in judgment at the end of the age. And, that’s part of what Revelation is about. But, the other aspect is about bringing salvation and establishing the New Covenant kingdom. The church is the new Jerusalem, the bride, and she was revealed as the true people of God at the passing away of the old system. Christ rules over His new kingdom eternally. In Scripture there is only, “this age,” and, “the age to come.” We live in what they referred to as the age to come. Thoughts?

@@variologies That’s an incredible display of open mindedness. It’s also very rare as I’m sure you know. I was raised in a denomination that teaches a pre trib, pre mil, futurist eschatology. In about 2002-2003 I was introduced to RC Sproul’s book, “The Last Days According to Jesus.” It was my first exposure to the Preterist interpretation. I’m not sure if it was a good or bad thing but as I studied I skipped the Partial Preterist view and landed squarely in the Full Preterist camp. I have studied since and listened to countless hours of futurists supposedly refuting this view but have yet to be convinced. Most appeal to creeds, councils and tradition. @@variologies I don’t want to bombard you. I reread your response and I think of things that were beneficial to me as I began examining the Preterist perspective. Another point that pushed me further toward the fulfilled view is the bookend time statements of Rev. 1:1,3 & 22:6,10. These seem to bracket the entire book and could be limiting the contents to the first century. Some Partial Preterists see Rev. 20 forward as future. But, when we allow for the passing of the old heavens and earth in Rev. 21 to be the passing of the OC age it explains how that was imminent for John and his audiences. When John was told that he would be shown the bride he was taken to a high mountain and shown the holy city, new Jerusalem (vv. 9,10). This is what he saw coming down in verse 2. The bride of Christ is universally known as the church. The gates and foundations of the city are the prophets and apostles. This is why we can’t separate the church from Israel. The new Israel has always been the church. There’s so much to learn here. I simply can’t relate to folks who get bored in this walk with God. Knowing that there is so much we don’t know is exciting! @@ttownsupreme2183 3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a] 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

@@archangel_metatron You basically quoted Scripture written to first century audiences during the last days. They were informed by inspired apostles that the coming of the Lord was about to be, it was near, shortly and soon. Make the attempt to find as many of the imminent passages you can and embrace them. The timing of the coming of the Lord should become evident. I’ll start you off with a very clear passage that posited the time of the Lord’s return. It was given to a first century audience experiencing intense persecution during the last days. James 5:7-9 7 “Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. 8 You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. 9 Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.” The principle of Audience Relevance should be applied here. Ask yourself, “If I read James’ words in about AD 60 would I expect Christ to return soon?” That audience read his words. They trusted him because they believed he was inspired by the Father. His message was from the Father Himself. Do you believe God was able to communicate to his people living in about AD 60?

Preterism teaches that the prophetic events already happened which robs the hope of the believer. This is by satanic design (John 10:10). "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;" Titus 2:13 Claiming that Jesus has come would mean that the resurrection of the dead, the raising up of the just and unjust, has already happened. Not. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18. This is why Paul warns us about the false teachers who peddle this preterism heresy, saying "the resurrection is past already (it already happened); and overthrow the faith of some." (2 Timothy 2:18) "Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation." John 5:28-29 Has this already happened? Impossible. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words." 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18. This includes the coming of Christ. They erroneously teach that Jesus has already come. Nonsense. Everyone will know when the Son of God from Heaven returns (Matthew 24:29-31). Paul warned of the false teachers who were "saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some." (2 Timothy 2:18) Preterist devils use Matthew 24. Isn't it interesting that in v11 Jesus warned us of these very vile wolves? just as Jesus promised right Matt 24:11 SHOOTING HOLES IN THE HERESY OF PRETERISM IF Jesus had already returned in 70 AD, WHY did the apostle John, in 90 AD, write "Even so, come, Lord Jesus"? (Revelation 22:20) When Jesus returns, isn't New Jerusalem coming down from Heaven? Where O Where is it? The earth is anything but ruled over by the King of kings, Prince of peace. If Jesus had already returned, would He be or have already begun setting up His milinial reign on earth as is prophesied? Where O where is the New Jerusalem? "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." Revelation 21:2 When Jesus returns, doesn't Revelation 22:3 say that "there shall be no more curse"? Yet sin continues to soar on the earth, in this fallen world (Matthew 24:9-13; 2 Timothy 3:13, etc.). If Jesus has already returned, WHAT about the 2 witnesses of Revelation 11 who are to minister before He returns? - where are these 2 witnesses who will prophesy on the streets of Jeruslamen for 1260 days, fire will proceed "out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies" and their enemies shall be killed, and who (the 2 witnesses) will be killed and raised again 3 days later, etc.? How could anyone in their right mind claim all this already happened when there is no record of such? How could such an enormous event have happened with no evidence of such? Simple; it hasn't happened yet. What about Babylon (Rome), described in Revelation 17 being destroyed in "one hour" as is foretold in Revelation 18:10? Has that happened? Certainly not.

You accuse people who are merely seeking for the truth. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.

God the Father’s judgment were on the people of Judah and the city of Jerusalem. For 400 years they were enslaved in Egypt. For seventy years they were captive in Babylon. Daniel found favor with God and so now God’s salvation plan includes Seventy-Weeks. Sixty-nine of those weeks have been fulfilled and the events are described in Dan 9:25-26. However, there remains One-Week, or the Seventieth Week. The fulfilled 483 years were for the people of Judah and the city of Jerusalem. Now, the Seventieth Week is for all people. Rom 11:25, “Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.” Eph 3:6, “This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” The question is, where is this Seventieth-Week in history? The easiest way to determine this is to read Dan 9:24. Dan 9:24, “Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.” Is transgression finished? Is sin put to an end? Has everlasting righteousness arrived? Has the antichrist and false prophet been sealed yet? Has Jesus anointed a most holy place? Even one of these being ‘no’ would prove that verse 24 has not yet occurred. It’s been about 2,000 years since Jesus arrived for ministry. One reason for this is the ‘fullness of the Gentiles’ being grafted in to God’s salvation plan. There are other reasons, but I’ll leave it just with one. Perhaps, the most controversial verse in scripture is Daniel 9:27. To gain a better understanding of this is to get as close to the original Hebrew text as possible. The text is called the Septuagint. I’m sure you are familiar with this text. Dan 9:27 (Septuagint), "And one week shall establish the covenant with many: and in the midst of the week my sacrifice and drink-offering shall be taken away: and on the temple shall be the abomination of desolations; an at the end of the time and end shall be put to the desolation." This is Jesus who takes away His sacrifice and drink-offering. Many know this to be communion. First of all, what is the purpose of communion? 1 Cor 10:16, "The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? We partake in communion for the remembrance of Him. (1 Cor 11:24-25). Those who understand the events of the 7-year Tribulation, particularly when the rapture occurs will know that once God's elect is caught up there will be no need for communion (remembrance) because the elect will already be with Jesus. It is with those who are left behind that will no longer have a communion with Him (unless repentance is made). I understand it may seem confusing when Dan 9:26 mentions ‘prince.’ Many assume this ‘prince’ is the same as that mentioned in verse 25. The ‘prince’ mentioned in verse 25 is Jesus, the anointed one. When discerning the 483 years (seven weeks/sixty-two weeks), it will guide you through people like King Cyrus, Darius, Artaxerxes, and Ezra and Nehemiah. This is for another discussion. However, as for the ‘prince’ in verse 26, he is the Roman leader. The people of the prince are the Romans. Most should know that the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in 70A.D. It is all God’s plan. Similar to God’s servant King Nebuchadnezzar (Jer 27:6), when Babylon came to destroy the First Temple. So, Jesus came the first time for the remittance of sin. He will come twice more, once for God’s elect, and the other for His wrath. The one for God’s elect Jesus comes with the clouds. Are you familiar with the passage of the harvest? This is the same event. Many think of this event as the rapture. I assume I’ve answered your claim. Please reach out with any questions you may have. There is a lot more to this but I believe this is enough to explain your claim.

You believe there are three comings of Christ. The Scriptures teach only two. The Hebrews were taught that Christ came once to be a sacrifice for sin and they were to eagerly await his second coming (Heb. 9:28). They were also taught that they were living in the last days and they would receive the promise in a very little while (Heb. 1:1,2: 10:36,37). Every NT writer posited the end as about to be, near, shortly or soon. Trust the inspired time statements.

@@MarvR-vc6sr I appreciate your response. Regarding the book of Daniel. Daniel 12 teaches deliverance (v. 1) and resurrection (v. 2). It also states that the book was to be sealed until the time of the end (v. 4,9). Then when asked for a time frame the response was, “when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished” (v. 7). The power of Old Covenant Israel was their covenant and all that pertained to it. That came to an abrupt end in AD 70. Just prior to the end of that age each inspired apostle taught their first century audiences that the end was about to be, it was near, shortly or soon. God, through his messengers and John, taught those audiences that the end was near. In contrast to Daniel, John was told, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near” (Rev. 22:10). John was living in the time of the end prophesied by Daniel. When one seriously considers the imminent time statements made throughout the NT there is no way to avoid, deny or ignore the truth. The end of the age at the coming of Christ occurred when the power of the holy people was shattered in AD 70.

@@promisesrkept Bear with me as I explain this verse. Heb 9:28, “so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice when He arrived the first time on earth during the first century A.D., bearing the sins of many. Jesus will appear a second time…(here’s the key to the sentence)… ‘not to deal with sin.’ Obviously, sin remains in this earth. Jesus doesn’t come the second time to deal with sin, but to save those eagerly waiting for Him. Therefore, sin still will remain. Believe me, I know how difficult this may seem to be able to grasp what I’m explaining, since it was challenging for me until I understood who those are that are eagerly waiting for Him. It will take an explanation much longer than this to explain. Just know that there are God’s elect, the remnant, and the survivors. We hear about these throughout scripture and is not just for past occurrences. This will occur again. Remember - Ecc 1:9, “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.” Jesus returns to save those eagerly waiting for Him is the event we refer to as the rapture. The better term I like to use is ‘harvest.’ Revelation Chapter 14:14-20 explains this occurrence. Jesus will return with the clouds of Heaven to harvest His elect. Mat 24:30, “Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Go back to Revelation Chapter 14 as it refers to ‘cloud.’ Matthew 24:30 is synonymous with Revelation 14:14-20. Matthew refers to ‘sign’ and ‘they will see the Son of Man.’ Rev 1:7, "Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.” Every eye will see Him, even those who are dead. This is key to remember that every eye and not just those who are saved. This is the second time Hebrews 9:28 is referring to. However, the question is, if Jesus returns a second time not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him, then what happens to those who are left behind, those who are dead who have not risen, and most of all, what happens to sin? This is why there is a third return. I want to advise you that this may become a little complicated to understand because we must factor in the remnant and survivors. But first let me explain the third occurrence of Jesus return. Rev 19:11, “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.” Let’s not forget that when Jesus came with the clouds of Heaven He harvest His elect and returned to Heaven with them. John 14:2-3, "2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." Since Jesus returned to Heaven to secure His elect, He can now return to earth to accomplish God’s wrath. This is when He and the armies of Heaven come to earth on white horses. Rev 19:14, “And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses.” Remember that Paul and Peter said - 1 Th 5:2, “For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” 2 Pet 3:10, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.” Many question this ‘thief in the night’, but it is exactly how Jesus will come with His armies. A thief is one that steals especially stealthily or secretly. It is in secret that Jesus comes. When Jesus returned with the clouds of Heaven every eye saw Him. When Jesus returns with His armies (for battle) no eye will see Him…coming. These are the three comings of Jesus. The first for sacrifice. The second to save His elect. The third to battle Satan and his demons. You’re probably wondering what about the elect, remnant, survivors, and even this battle with Satan. I skipped over a lot that would fill in the blanks of these occurrences. Reach out if you prefer to know more about them. You also mentioned ‘a little while.’ I can help you understand what this means as this does pertain to a specific period of time and not an assumption of time. Refer to this - John 16:18, “So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” Trust this, if you know what this timing represents, it will open your eyes for understanding of how everything within the end time transpire. Discern this verse and you will understand all that I am saying - John 16:17, “So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, ‘because I am going to the Father'?” I’m not sure if you missed it, but sin still remains even during the battle with Satan. We know that Satan will be bound upon the completion of God’s wrath. Why completion? It is because Satan also helps to fulfill God’s wrath. Rev 12:12, “Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” I can explain ‘coming down to you.’ Let me know if you’re willing to hear this. So then Satan will be bound. Rev 20:2, “And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,” When the thousand years are ended Satan will be released. This is what we refer to as the battle of Gog and Magog. The previous battle when Jesus returns with His armies is the battle of Armageddon. Think of ‘ages.’ Rev 20:7, “And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison” Sin will remain even when Satan is bound because it is in our nature and not because Satan and his demons possess people. Remember, Satan (and his demons) will be bound, meaning, they cannot leave even in spirit. They terrorize people in spirit because they are locked in the bottomless pit and not bound. There is a difference. This explains the possession in the man in the country of Gadarenes. Whenever you hear of God’s righteous angels on earth, they are in human form. Remember the two that visited Lot? How about when Mary confused the man as a gardener? The righteous angels are not locked or bound, therefore, they can appear as they are. The demons cannot so they possess people. I hope you can understand this because it does make a difference in knowing what will come upon the Day of the Lord. The sin will remain in the remnant and survivors. Again, there is so much more to go over and share. Keep providing rebuttals or feedback, or better yet just ask questions and I’ll fill in the pieces to help you understand God’s Word more thoroughly.

That’s not true. The ten Northern tribes were Israelites but NOT Chews. The ten Northern tribes went to Europe after their captivity in Assyria. The Europeans are descendants of the Israelites. That’s why apostle Paul went to Europe to preach the gospel. Jesus told his disciples to go only to the lost sheep of Israel. Paul went to Europe. Paul knew the Europeans were the lost sheep of Israel who had forgotten who they were and where they came from.

Your premise is contrary to Scripture. You’re looking at the immediate circumstances around you. Scripture wasn’t written to you or me. The subjects of the Scripture were given by the apostles. For example, James wrote to the twelve tribes scattered among the nations in about AD 60. He informed them that they were living in the last days (James 5:3), it was a day of slaughter (5:5). They were to be patient until the coming of the Lord (5:7). The coming of the Lord was near (5:8). The judge was, at that time, standing at the door (5:9). James wrote to the remnant of the tribes of Israel during the last days of the Old Covenant age informing them that the coming of the Lord, the Judge, was near. If you avoid, deny or ignore the many time statements your false premise will lead you into error.
