Can I ask what if anything has changed since you started, either within or around you?
@luckyleo88Ай бұрын
@@nonobrobro3310 Hi, in terms of within, I feel more connected to depend on Mother Mary as a connection to Jesus as we do not pray to her but ask for her to intercede for us. I feel like she is in my thoughts and the images of our Mother statues are vividly appearing when my eyes are closed during reciting the rosary. I feel as well that my anxiety has reduced as meditating on "Hail Marys" have somehow kept my mind from overstimulation at times. Around me, well I have slowly realized I can't control whatever happens externally and I tend to just brush off the bad stuff nowadays instead of overthinking or being angry at it for too long and I give credit to this habit of saying the rosary and reciting the Hail Marys. I'm trying now to ensure I catch myself not to be repetitive in reciting it but trying to fully be immersed whenever I say it. There is always something to improve on every day or week....Important thing is to not make it a repetitive formality which totally goes against the whole point of prayer. Hope that answers your question.

In Psalm 136, the phrase, “for His mercy endures forever.” Repeats over and over again so there is a biblical precedent for repeating prayer in the Bible. For me, I like to pray a scriptural rosary, in which a verse of Sacred Scripture is read before, or in the middle, of each Hail Mary. It has greatly enhanced my rosary meditation.

This was the first topic that started my conversion from Protestantism to Catholicism. All it takes is one moment like this to humble yourself into realizing the early church didn't make extremely obvious mistakes you can point out based on one reading, of one translation of an English Bible in 2024. And after that humility is gained, you realize there's countless other nuances you're missing. Then the rabbit hole never ends...Great video father.

Thank you Fr. Mike, this passage interests me a lot as I used to take it literally meaning that I thought that I shouldn't talk too long in prayer and that scared me because I have trouble forming clear sentences without uttering and pausing, this helps clears a lot of misunderstanding I had before, turns out those warnings had context to the people who prayed to pagan gods. Now when I pray to God I will imagine as if I am talking to a friend in a nice cozy place, where we get to pour heart to heart. God bless you all brothers and sisters

As a former Protestant, I always found it ironic that protestants bring up this complaint against Catholics. I had noticed that in Protestant prayer services, individual pastors and elders repeated themselves all the time. Each one of them had favorite phrases and prayers that they repeated so often that I could identify who was praying simply by the words and sentences they were using. They engage in repetitive prayer as often as any other religion, even if they don't admit it.

Repetitive prayer, like the Rosary, can offer great spiritual benefits by fostering a deep sense of meditation and focus. As Father Mike explains, it allows us to reflect on the mysteries of Christ's life and build a rhythm that can anchor us in faith, especially during moments of distraction or anxiety. The repetition helps us internalize key spiritual truths and invites us into a state of contemplative prayer, where we can connect more deeply with God. But balancing repetition with intentionality is essential for making repetitive prayer spiritually enriching rather than empty. Thank you, Father.

I am a Protestant attending Catholic mass twice a week out of respect for my wife. I'm enjoying it quite a bit for all sorts of good reasons. However, I do find it difficult during the various prayers to understand what is being said as the priest is typically reciting prayers very quickly and with very little variation in tone and with very little if any emphasis on any word or phrase. At first I thought it might just be this particular priest that I was listening to, but in the last couple of years I think I've heard seven or eight different priests giving masses and I believe every single one of them spoke in this very fast unemphasised manner. It is also the case with the prayers that the congregation says together or in response. The pace is always hurried I join in on the Lord's prayer but it's difficult to keep up with everyone else. The creed is also spoken very quickly and various other prayers that I know are standard and named but I don't know the names of. Sometimes some priests seem to sort of sing part of a prayer and I like that as the singing seems to require better enunciation. I know the Lord hears us all, but, in that these prayers are said out loud and often as a congregation, I think there would be value if these were said in a way that it was easier for the ear and mind to discern the meaning.

When I was little I was too lazy to say my prayers one night. God taught me a hard lesson by showing me a glimpse of the place where all the bad people go. The experience should've traumatized for life, but it didn't. I credit that to God being merciful and sparing the pain of that experience, and being a constant presence in my life despite my flaws. Ever since then, I've always made it a point to pray daily.

Father as there are devotion for so many. My belief is there should be a very large devotion to Jesus and made by Pope Francis direction, to all Clergy. I believe Jesus is not getting the world wide attention as others saints. Think this, Jesus wants to be Loved above all and must be. 🙏, a year devotion by the Catholic Church to Jesus alone.

When I pray the Rosary, I am hyperfocused on repeating the words of St. Elizabeth, to which Mary responded with her Magnificat, glorifying God more than any of us can ever hope to glorify God. And then I focus on asking her to pray for us, the same way she prayed in response to St. Elizabeth, now and at the hour of our death. I meditate on this intentional request, with every prayer, because God is outside space-time and has eternity to hear every single prayer, whether they are identical or not.

That's the best way I've heard it explained, what do you Protestant listeners think about that? Does it make more sense now? I haven't heard it explained that way and that's so well put❤

Babbling like the pagans means for example meditating on meaningless sylables being repeated over and over again while believing that is your prayer to an idol or to the gods plural. We Christians including from the Roman Catholic worship rite believe that the only way to our father in heaven is through Jesus Christ. Praising the human mother of Jesus Christ who gave birth while still a virgin requires being humble enough to acknowledge in prayer that Jesus Christ is god made flesh through her.

In his book, The World's First Love, Ven. Fulton Sheen gives a beautiful apologetics argument against this accusation.

Wonderful talk Father. Although that their real objection is most often more with respect to the need for penance or sacrifice. Acknowledging that would expose the lie of their belief system.

For "Bible alone" folks: Psalm 136 is pretty darn repetitive.
@lesscommonsense1804Ай бұрын
Jesus said don’t use repetition because He wants us to understand that our Father hears what we say the first time. We only need to pray once for Him to hear us, just like in any good relationship.

Jesus knew the Psalms so well he quoted Psalm 22 on the cross. He only said a little bit of it because being crucified makes it difficult to breathe and talk, or so I have heard.

Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. - 1 Samuel 12:23

If Jesus didn't want us to repeat prayers, he wouldn't have taught the Our Father.

Yes,, but he didn't say pray it over and over again.

@@BeholdAndLo-f4v He also didn't say only pray it once.
@michaellafond9555Ай бұрын
@BeholdAndLo-f4v did God (Jesus) ever want us to have to pray? Isn't it the hardness of our hearts that we have removed ourselves from His favor? God doesn't need our prayers, He needs our hearts, and if repeating the same prayer over many times, is it an attempt to open our heart to Jesus?

(I grew up Catholic, still am, but feel God gave us free will to ask questions, and grow, not tow the line of doctrine).
