Did lobotomies work?

In this episode of Honesty Box, we sat down with the brilliant Dr Sohom Das, a forensic psychiatrist who works with individuals who have committed violent crimes and are suspected of having mental illnesses. Does it work on people who are already zombies?

Surprisingly-yes. If you look at the existing footage of lobotomies, that was one of the most successful use cases of the lobotomy. Usually non verbal, extremely psychotic, otherwise emotionless patients, would become the equivalent of a child. They seemed happy and friendly, they’d be able to do some everyday tasks, stop being violent, etc. This is why doctors thought it was so successful. It turned some very dysfunctional and miserable people into what seemed like happy children.

Lobotomy hasn't gone away. Some doctors still recommend for autism and similar.
