I don't see this as the sequel. Non of the actors returned. The animation was not to parr. It carried not the name of 2. I see it as like with the kung fu panda series (dragon knight) for example. They don't serve as official kung fu panda 4 or something.. and so i think if they carred they could still make a real megamind sequel. This was just a spinoff show first episode movie (or whatever that's called.)

A bit like the Bernard lie plus some extra stuff (possibly another big lie) building up and causing her to want some time to truly think over her feelings at that point. Well it united fans... In that most HATED it. Not even because the voices changed, after all the video game that came before this one had better voice acting despite the fact they had the SAME actors in it. But the writing dipped HARD, they forgot the plot and facts from the OG movie. Megamind was evil because he was ALONE, Minion was the only person who would give him the time of day. Except when he was doing crimes, when Metroman would try to stop him. Button of Doom, and the game were the true sequels. Peacock could have just based this movie on the game, and the series on BOTH. Reveal the Megamind AI SURVIVED, and patched itself back together using bits of code, and fragmented voice lines of audio it's gathered. Basically Shodan vocal patterns. During this time it realized that megamind was the person they fought, and feels itself the true evil. This AI being the secret leader of the the Doom Syndicate in the series... But no.. Wipe it with their butt, and call it art.

To me, that’s the only explanation. Sure, some writers/directors can get washed up. But from my understanding, that usually comes about when they grow egotistical and let the popularity of their previous creation(s) get to their head. They grow this “All my ideas are great” mindset and that often comes with them being very defensive of their (poorly made) work. We have yet to hear anything from the original writers, and the director. So I can only agree in assuming that the higher ups got a bit too hands on with the show; turning it into a generic animated kids TV show. Hell, I bet there wasn’t an intent to make another movie, just the show. But Universal/Peacock wanted a movie to help promote the show, splitting resources and therefore the writers.

I started watching the animated series yesterday night after finishing the movie a couple of days ago. I will say, in terms of quality relative to modern day children's TV shows it isn't bad at all. It's up to par for the current landscape, and later episodes are pretty good. The writers could've focused this exact storyline into an original IP and it would probably be one of the better ones, but instead they opted to use a familiar character with already completed worldbuilding, kill off his well-rounded character, retcon like 4 significant plot points, and replace them with low-effort, senseless characters and a plot with a non-resolution. Look me in the eyes and say that the animation is worse than Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir. You can't, but since they opted to use an IP with already high standards due to its impressive performance, the bar was far, far higher than any of the animated slop that kids get fed to today. I guess the writers either didn't have the budget or the timeline to make a good (outside of relative to today's poor television landscape) story capable of even coming close to Megamind (2010)

I feel like Chum being renamed fits. Imo it fits because of the term "minion" implying that he's lesser than Megamind. Since their relationship is more of a hero and sidekick, now, it'd make more since that they'd want to try to show that their friendship is stronger and more appreciated by changing his name. However, I completely understand why people would be upset with the change. His name has been Minion for what was it? 13-14 years, now? It may make sense but it's an unnecessary big shock for people who are huge fans of the series, is what I'm trying to say. Edit: I also feel like it would've been more impactful and accepted if they renamed him later in the series rather than immediately.

And Chum sounds ridiculous and condescending. No one calls their friends "chum" anymore, but it has been used by superheroes in old comics who often treated their friends like side characters bc of bad writing. To the point where people started writing spoof stories where any characters who were canonically unhelpful, overzealous, fame-obsessed, self-centered, condescending superhero types would often say "chum". Now hearing "chum" from a character's mouth means "this person is condescending and sees others as below them". Which is already how they butchered Megamind's character to be like, in both the movie and the series. Of course people hate hearing Minion get called that. Not to mention "chum" is the literal word for dead fish bits ground up and used as bait for other fish. How is naming a fish after dead fish used as bait not condescending as heck? It's not just that Minion is an older name. Chum has its own problems.

Here's something I would have done if I was given the task to make a megamind sequel first things first I would re-watch the original film 2 to 3 different times so I can get a really good grasp on what the concept of megamind is about Then I would bring in the Doom syndicate into the sequel but give them a new origin story making the megamind video game not canon to the franchise at all which is perfectly fine since nobody really played it or cared about it Possibly give them new designs to make them more intimidating as villains And give them a new origin story an origin story that could be as simple as this One of the members of the Doom syndicate could be a scientist while other folks could be random civilians who happen to have gotten power similar to that of what we see in the actual sequel itself but they actually look interesting The first try to use their powers to mess with megamind and then they tried to take it a step further of trying to take over the city and possibly the entire world and megamind and his new crew have to stop him For that girl character who's meant to be a sidekick I do one of two things either write her out of the story entirely or try to make her either be a parody of the sidekick archetype while also making her an interesting character in her own right that makes her worthy of being part of this new team megamind tries to form with her and Roxanne along with minion speaking of him I would also have him keep his name Another thing I would do is that if I want to make it as a sequel where it expands upon the themes and ideas that the first film did I would take the themes of the first film did and expand on them without contradicting the original themes and characterizations of how the characters were in the first movie (basically not pulling a Toy story 4) I will expand upon its themes and ideas that the original film had did without making the characters feel out of character or without retreading the same ground That is probably what I would do if I were to be given the task of making a true megamind sequel it probably won't be perfect but it'll at least be something Even if I wouldn't have the budget of the first movie to work on a project like this I would at least put some form of care into it as not only a standalone movie but as a true sequel to megamind if I were to be given that task I hope you had the time to read this and I hope you guys really liked what I have to say 😁

I think the hate is WAY overblown. And I just roll my eyes anytime anyone even says "Megamind 2" and tries to get people to think it's produced by the movie studio instead of the TV studio in order to get extreme expectations for a low-budget made-for-streaming project ordered for a kids' channel. I watched the whole thing and it's perfectly normal stuff for kids streaming. Including the movie. Just to check, I went and watched trailers for things that were ordered at the same time for the same service. It's pretty equivalent to Megamind, but they're getting 0 hate because people aren't putting insanely high expectations on them. If this was a $200 million project I would get being so critical. But it's not. They probably had less than $1 million and didn't have time to tweak every shot to get it perfect because it was all made on a TV schedule. It was beyond ridiculous that people were asking why it doesn't look like "insert theatrical release". I would say they should have labeled it a TV special instead of a movie to avoid that, but I don't think they could have predicted such an insane reaction in the first place. The movie was literally announced WITH the show and people still treated it like a theatrical release. Very gross behavior. Honestly, acting like kids about a kids' TV show. The funniest thing being that most of the people reacting don't even seem to have kids!

Yeah the animation quality in The Return of Jafar and the series wasn't as good as the first movie, but they made up for that with good and decent stories and the characters felt like they were still the same ones from the first movie.

I actually agree with you with Chum being the main character instead of megamind. I think a Chum spinoff would have been a better approach since they didn’t have to retcon megamind’s backstory and also megamind practically resolved his arc in the movie. Chum has more potential.

I actually liked the new movie myself honestly I think the hate is overblown like I get not liking it but like people focus way to much on hating it. As for the actors I heard MegaMind's original VA couldn't come back due to scheduling issues so seems like they wanted him to come back and didn't just replace him from the start. Also yeah the theme song is great I missed when Superhero shows had theme songs with lyrics I feel like we don't get those as much anymore.
