I honestly feel that Melt changed after they went into Sephora. After that point, I feel like their focus changed to more of the general consumer and not the indie makeup specific consumer. IDK, I haven't been interested in Melt for ages now. *sigh*

I watched a Marlena Stell video recently where she was talking about beauty industry insights. She mentioned that when indie makeup goes into big retailers, something's gotta give because now they have to pay them a cut. So they can either increase their prices, which would drive away customers or change their formula or shrink their product. That might be what's happening with Melt.

I actually think the metallic orange lipstick is GORGEOUS! I have never before in my life liked a metallic lipstick, but this one? This one just reminds me of Gong Li's lip makeup in "Curse of the Golden Flower", and I really LOVE that movie, and thing Gong Li looks nothing short of MAGICAL in it!

I just got my Singe brushes and I’m so excited. I have high hopes for them. I have been wanting great synthetic brushes that emulates natural hair for so long. Also, I can sadly say that your brushes are now tested on animals since my dog seems to adore when I brush his nose with one of them 😂 they are very soft and nice, so I understand him! We’re both fans of singe now 🤷‍♀️😂

Melt is known for mold in their palettes. I bought both of the Gemini palettes (new version) and both of them grew gigantic mold in several shades after 3 months. I contacted the customer service and I was told that it’s just the formula changing but that it’s safe to use. I throw away the palettes because I can’t put myself or my clients at risk. I just wanted to let everyone know that it can happen. And I’ve seen other people having the same problem and it’s the reason why I didn’t buy this palette and why I probably won’t buy any more palettes by them. Also because they’re so expensive for the fact that you can only use the new palette for maximum 3 months. I have also the Mariposas palette and same problem in two shades. Let me know if anyone had the same problem. ❤ anyway thanks Angie for your review as always ❤

Melt used to be the edgy brand like Urban Decay and then they both became too popular for their own good and just make uninspired color stories and products now. They used to be two of my favorite brands but now idk what happened with Melt. As soon as they went to Sephora they wanted to appeal to the mainstream customer. I love colorful metallic lips. Especially paired with a matching blush, no eyeshadow, just mascara 👌. That lip oil is pretty, too. I also feel the same about melt in general

I agree that the color story on that palette looks unnecessarily dialed back and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out the target customer. It's honestly giving "'festival girl who is totally down for an ayahuasca journey in the desert led by a self-styled shaman named Kyle but who also spent a really long time deciding which Whole Foods hand sanitizer to bring and is hoping everyone will be up for stopping at Costco on the way back because it's really not out of the way and there isn't one near her home and she's nearly out of almond milk"

I love melt, ND, Kaleidos but I dont want or like every release from these brands. Its like if you walked into a clothing store, you wouldnt like every piece of clothing and even if you did it might not be flattering on your body type or skin tone. Such a great point! I had a friend who literally would buy every single release from Glossier and she kept trying to make some of the products work, but when I mentioned that maybe some of it just isn’t for her skin type or something she got offended and said “no it’s really good I just need to find the best way to use these” it took her months to admit some of it she just didn’t like! I couldn’t understand why she felt like she had to like everything but she eventually said she felt like she was doing something wrong because of how everyone was hyping all the new launches from Glossier at the time. I love Fenty and have tried a lot of their makeup but just because I love the brand doesn’t mean it’s going to all be perfect for me and my preferences! Like the Kilowatt highlighter, not for me. And I skip anything I’m not relatively sure I’m going to like, for example the skin tint. Glad you guys said this ❤ it’s so true! Now Clionadh and Terra Moons on the other hand… I can see myself liking every single shadow they sell. (but I’d be broke before I could ever buy all that haha)

My issue with melt has always been the shimmers. The 2 pallettes I've tried the shimmers were really thick and chunky. So this formula change intrigues me.

I think you had the perfect analogy regarding Melt, its the best friend we grew apart from and we dont know who changed. Maybe it was both of us, but Ive been more than unimpressed with their recent launches although I will say the new brow gel and brown pen are pretty good. Overall, Ive been concerned they might be getting in trouble bc no one is talking about them much these days. I still love them, but we have definitely distanced from each other.

i got my palette & i love Melt i have alll their palettes & this palette is totally formulated different but it still blends beautiful. i think they made their mattes less heavy? they aren’t as packed with pigment but still one swipe pigment if this is making sense. & their metallica & shimmers are less chunky & sooo much more smooth & soft. they improved the formulas without taking away what made Melt Cosmetics eyeshadow their own. just less impact but still amazing

I bought the orange lip from Melt. I'm such a sparkle obsessed person that I love the metalic sparkle color. I wish they had a neon pink in the same formula, that would be so much fun, lol. It is a bit drying on the lip though and the sparkles wear off after a while. The orange Milky Gloss from NYX looks great on the orange stain left behind.

I used your Singe Brush set today. I used it with my Patrick Ta palette. The brushes worked wonderfully with that palette. The shape of the brushes work with my hooded eyes. I agree with you. The new Melt Cosmetics palette did nothing for me. I look to buy from Melt Cosmetics. Their last few releases have not been my cup of tea. I love Gemini and Rust.

My Singe brushes are just as good as my Rephr brushes. I would love some pencil brushes. The 3 pencil brushes from Rephr are favorites of mine. So things like those but different enough would be great! And also look forward to nice concealer & foundation brushes. I am thinking of the kind that BK Beauty makes where the bristles are shorter in the front and longer in the back. I love brushes like that. I have a Rare Beauty concealer brush like that too and love it. But I am always on the hunt for the beat concealer/foundation brushes

But I'm glad I watched, because now I'm not going to, even if I were planning on getting it. With all that being said, the look turned out beautiful, as always! I bought the blend bunny juicy blushes and two of the lip oils and I really wanted to pick up the melt pallet because I always do but not the 420 because you said the quality wasn't good and I'm saving my coin for the upcoming unearthly cosmetics release of don't be jelly 2, I watched Amanda do the swatches on Instagram live and on her KZbin channel and they are to die for and I hope she sends these to you because the blue seems like an Angie dream. And she has been releasing things sporadically and I actually caught the all I ever wanted volume 1 today and that made my week so after the new launch I might pic up the melt if you like it but if you don't I probably won't because I'm so addicted to unearthly I would die if I missed something, sorry I know this is long I'm really tired now and I'm shutting up now, love you Angie and again I love my brushes ❤❤

I have to agree with some other commenters; I have been a Melt customer since they had their OG LoveSick and Dark Matter stacks (we're talking 2014/EARLY 2015). I have at least 11 Melt palettes from over the years as well as several of their cream and power blushes and highlighters, several lipsticks and lip liners, and several of their eyeliners (both pencil and pot). And you know they just... don't do it for me anymore. When I want colorful eyeshadows that are both very pigmented and blendable or color stories that inspire me, I reach for Odens Eye or BlendBunny or Nomad or Give Me Glow or Glaminatrix... I almost never reach for my Melt palettes over other Indie brands in my collection. Heck I even reach for BH or Beauty Bay more often (is Beauty Bay indie? 🧐😂) It makes me sad that the brands that USED to be our go-to's for fun makeup like Melt and Urban Decay seem to not just have gone off track but almost entirely derailed next to today's competitors.
