Growing up as a Michigan fan in the 80s, Notre Dame was our most hated rival. They were so good every year and it was usually the first game of the season. If this national championship game was happening THEN, I would have rooted against Notre Dame all the way. But times have changed. O$U is now easily the most asslike fanbase in the world. There can easily become a time when OSU beats Michigan and Michigan goes and wins the title. What both fanbases should do is honor the greatest rivalry, winner gets 365 days of bragging rights while the loser keeps their mouth shut until we play again. As a Buckeye, we can get that trophy on the 20th and Michigan fans will say what they'll say and I'll say you're correct, see you Nov 29th, we'll just add to the trophy case in the meantime lol

We just won the natty and went undefeated, We slayed all rivals (Ohio, MSU, Alabama), and we landed the #1 QB in the 2025 class, and not going to even go into this transfer portal class that we are assembling. After losing our head coach, gutting our staff and sending 15 players to the draft, and we did not have a QB, I can't think of A better outcome based on the hand that we were dealt. All OSU people are thinking the same thing. "If we could beat them when they did not have a QB and a gutted team, what are we going once they load up next year. I can tell you.. Michigan and Notre Dame while rivals or at times rivals, they are like sister institutions. That’s a real saying btw, think of it as cousins, or high school rivals when friend groups are on both sides. These universities are connected through rich history, Notre Dame possibly became a football school bc of Michigan or the other way around. The fight songs are similar. I’m not saying they aren’t rivals, I’m not saying there isn’t hate or anger, that they cheer for each other, but when they aren’t in each others way, or they’re playing certain teams, there are times it isn’t like that. And for many of us, the hate hasn’t ever really been that big, if I wasn’t a Notre Dame fan, I’d likely have been a Michigan fan. I’m not saying I was all in for Michigan last year, but I thought the cheating stuff was bs. And I wasn’t angry they won.

Then Eisen is not a real "Michigan Man". OSU and UM want to beat each other badly each time they meet and that's cool, it's a rivalry. If they're playing another BIG school but not each other, for sure, root for the other school. But even Bo said, when the rival is playing someone out of conference, you root for the league. The rivalry has always been intense but mostly respectful. Eisen is NOT a Michigan Man.

Oh stop whining. Notre Dame tried, on 3 separate occasions separated by decades, to join the Big 10 and the Big 10 said no. You cannibalize the other conferences and expand in conference scheduling which is what kills the rivalries. And now you cry that it isn't fair for ND to be independent. You're just jealous that Notre Dame can actually sustain itself as an independent job like your regional teams in the big conferences. Kick rocks.
@wingedbuffalo467010 сағат бұрын
Dear Lord @timherrick do you even know what you're talking about, or the history/reason WHY Notre Dame isn't in a conference ???? First off, who says "Notre Dame needs to be in a conference" [in football, that is, because ND is in a conference, the ACC, for all other sports except ice hockey because the ACC doesn't sponsor hockey .. so ND IS in the BIG Ten Conference for hockey !!!!] WHY do they need to be in a conference ... because YOU want it and/or others say so ???????? Second, ND DOES PAY A HEFTY PENALTY for "not belonging to a conference" in football: they can NEVER qualify for a playoff bye (and therefore must always play an "extra" opponent more than some conference playoff teams to get a chance to compete for a National Championship). This holds true even if ND is the only unbeaten team in all of the FBS at 12-0 and ranked #1 in the national polls come playoff selection/seeding time. If ND is willing to voluntarily accept this penalty as the price of maintaining their football independence (and with it their right to play teams all over the Country instead of being limited to a conference's local geographic footprint, WHY do you care so much ??? And WHO do you think you are to "insist" upon their joining a conference ????? Third, are you even aware WHY Notre Dame is independent in football ???? If you/the readers don't know "why," the truth will set you/them free (and blow your/their mind(s)) !!!!!! The FACT is that, over 100 years ago (including during Knute Rockne's time), ND REPEATEDLY petitioned and asked for admission to the "Western Conference (i.e., today's BIG Ten)." The University of Michigan -- which even back then held disproportionate power and sway over the rest of the conference as they still do -- BLOCKED and PREVENTED Notre Dame from being allowed to join the conference. Michigan's combined football coach & athletic director, Fielding Yost, was a virulent Catholic-hating bigot and poor sport (he cancelled a Michigan-ND series after ND finally beat his team) who HATED Notre Dame and PERSONALLY BLACKBALLED /vetoed ND's acceptance into the conference, despite the natural geographic sense ND's presence in the conference made. Moreover, he hated ND so much that he deliberately tried to DESTROY/kill off ND football by not only refusing to schedule ND to play his Michigan team, but also by threatening and coercing the other schools already in the conference not to dare scheduling ND!!! This FORCED ND to travel all across the country -- at GREAT time, effort, and EXPENSE -- to find enough schools willing to schedule them for a game; this was the ONLY way ND football could get a sufficient number of games to have a "real" season schedule and to survive as a sport. ND REPEATEDLY petitioned for conference admission, and Yost/Michigan blackballed/vetoed them EVERY TIME. The great irony is that, in his/its black-hearted attempt to destroy Notre Dame football, Yost/Michigan forced ND to play all over the Nation ... and in the process acquire massive fan support from every geographic region to become America's FAVORITE and most-followed college team (while Michigan remained a mere regional power mostly followed and supported exclusively in the Midwest) !!!! So Yost's/Michigan's utter VILLAINY blew up in his/its face ... which only made them hate and oppose ND all the more !!!!!!!!!!!! In the process, ND developed great rivalries with teams all across the Nation -- especially USC, which remains an annually scheduled game. ND also protects a spot on its annual schedule for Navy (as long as Navy wants to keep playing ND) -- no only because of the mutual respect bvetween the two schools and shared academic excellence, but also as a "debt of honor:" the Navy kept ND afloat (no pun intended) during WW II andprevented its closure as it was an all-male college at the time and most men were in military service. Navy opened sort of an adjunct "Annapolis West" at ND during the WW II years. ND as a football independent became so popular and so successful Nation-wide (and financially successful too) that eventually ND simply gave up on joining the BIG Ten, and stopped asking to be admitted (and stopped giving Michigan the opportunity to look down their noses at ND and keep blackballing them). Only now in recent decades when ND football was such a network cash-cow (complete with exclusive NBC TV contract to broadcast all home games) did ND suddenly become grudgingly "acceptable" to Michigan to "allow" ND (and its $$$) to join the BIG Ten Conference. Did you know all that history ??? Given all that nasty treatment ND endured over a considerable period of time, WHY should ND now give up its football independence and the valuable product IT was FORCED TO DEVELOP THROUGH ITS OWN EFFORTS THANKS TO MICHIGAN'S VILLAINY ????? Why should ND join the Big Ten Conference or any other conference in football and thereby become unable to schedule it's "debt of honor" game with Navy -- or maintain occasional historical games all around the country with schools that DIDN'T blackball ND or refuse to schedule games with ND in years/decades past ??? WHY should ND have to do this simply because others now "want" ND to do so ???????????????????????????? Hopefully this history lesson has opened a few eyes.
