Did Mohawk Warranty, My Failed Laminate Flooring?

Mohawk is a popular flooring brand that can be found in most big box stores and flooring companies in the United States. I have to say that the look of this laminate flooring is very appealing and realistic. However can it stand the test of time and how willing is Mohawk to stand behind their products. In this video i am going to explain what went wrong with my flooring and how things went with the warranty process from Mohawk. Enjoy the video!

I would say this is owner error.....not Mohawk. Obviously the fridge and the dog area are the problem.

We installed Mohawk about 4 years ago. I just emailed them because about1 year ago we noticed all the boards are curling on the ends so the floor does not lay flush. some of the planks will even pop up. I hope we get the same results as you.

If installing on concrete slab always use plastic sheet as a moisture barrier the entire concrete subfloor needs to be covered with plastic sheets to prevent such problems down the road

Will quiet walk or smart core 1.5mm underlayment work. It’s marketed for vinyl planks.

My damage came from pet urine which is part of there warrenty to cover.

I guess the plastic barrier would stop the urine from penetrating and staying in the concrete….😂

Waterproof from the top down….bottom up ALWAYS use 6mm vapor barrier or roll on vapor barrier for warranty to be valid. Manufacturers have been requiring this when installing….i live in the desert of LV and it is still required since 01/23!

I literally just finished my Mohawk floor from Costco last week so I will definitely keep my eye one the floor now. Doesnt inspire my confidence in the product though 😂 thankyou for the video sir!

@@kottyking 1.5 years in it looks as good as the day I opened the box! And I have a 3 year old pitbull mix that absolutely scrapped the crap out of the old flooring. This is doing really well! I have no areas where it swelled from water like this guy did. I would 100% buy it again especially for the price.

This tends to happen when you dont leave enough gap on the ends for expansion. You also didnt stagger your planks correctly.

I have been selling flooring for over 30 years and currently selling not only Mohawk and others that are laminate and called by manufacturers water proof. what you have to understand is that laminate is a Mdf product and they have gotten better over the years but I don't sell them as water proof because they will fail over time specialy on kitchens or bathrooms .. The best product for water or moisture is vinyl and they make it in different thickness and they also have different wear layers too..

Then they shouldn't have advised it that way stating it right on the Revwood Plus box including pet protected as well. They obviously didn't test it to well to make such a claim

I have Mohawk Revwood installed and it’s bulletproof. I would check to make sure you have the locking system free of debris in the joint. It is topically waterproof. Make sure you are not cleaning with dishwashing liquid in the water. Very rarely, very rarely does it have claims when professionally installed. DIY bangs the boards and ruins locking system and waterproof warranty.

I did 4 rooms (1000+ SF) and a hallway myself. As long as you check the locking edges (as you pointed out), and use the approved techniques to lock the planks, there should be no banged up boards or locking problems. Mine is flawless. The hardest part for DIY is truing up the floor (3/16" in 10 feet). Anyone who is comfortable with basic carpentry and FOLLOWS INSTRUCTIONS can lay this floor. I may have missed it, but I didn't see any void of warranty with my RevWood Select, other than they won't cover labor if you DIY.

We bought ours and just had it installed 6 months ago. We have several areas of bubbles in hallway and den. Unfortunately we put it throughout our house 2100 Sf

I am sorry to hear that, blow there phone up. Even if they tell you there is nothing they can do. Also remember if you bought it from cosco you can return it. No boxes needed. Pull it up and take it back. Alot of work but will save you money.

Mohawk makes many different types of engineered flooring. It would be helpful to know which you used. Is this part of the RevWood line? RevWood is supposed to be water-resistant.

No it is not part of the revwood line. It is Cambridge scraped oak. That is stated in the video, thanks for watching.

So others know, our year-old Mowhawk RevWood Select floor has weather several significant spills with no ill effects (mopped up in a timely manner). And ZERO scratches from our two, 65 pound fur babies. Good luck with your floor repair.

My Mohawk flooring looks exactly like yours and it is a mess after one year and I got blue tape everywhere and now I am waiting to hear back from the company and they said it can take up to 2 months to get an answer.

Wondering what kind of Mohawk this is - Rev Wood Select, Rev Wood Plus, or something else. I just spent an hour and a half at a flooring store and came home to look for reviews. I was hoping the Rev Plus would do the trick for us, but now I am concerned that it really won’t hold up.

The flooring i installed was Southbridge scraped oak, however if you look at other comments for the video Rev wood select is mentioned by another viewer. Try commenting on his post to ask how its holding up. Thanks for watching.

I installed RevWood Select about a year ago. We wanted a water-resistant floor that our 65 lb dogs could not scratch (forget wood laminate), but it needed to have a realistic, wood-look. The sales rep took his car keys and ground them into the sample plank and we could not see even a hint of a scratch. Nor have our dogs, or pulling furniture over it, etc. Significant spills have had no effect on it when cleaned up in a timely manner. We were very reluctant to go with a an engineered finish, but this floor looks great! Most of our friends thought the Cedar Chestnut RevWood was a real wood finish. The only con is that it is NOISY if something hard falls on it (even with the top tier padding). If the dogs drop their soup bone, you will hear it at the other end of the house LOL. This type of click-lock installation requires a very flat floor (read the specs) , or you must flatten significant defects before laying a foam underpad. I highly recommend the RevWood line for looks and durability.

This is neither RevWood Plus nor RevWood Select. It's a line called Mohawk Home, which is a more basic version made specifically for places like Costco.

@@GlaciusDreams Plus just offers a bit more water resistance than Select. The scratch resistance, which is what I needed, is the same. Select is hardly what one would describe as "completely inferior". Since I don't have a water source in my living room, some might say it's honestly stupid to pay for something you don't need! "Stupid is as stupid does."

Maybe at the door, fridge, dishwasher, dog water dish, and sink area should be regularly waxed to keep water from penetrating.

I had problems with Lowes Style waterproof vinyl flooring. My problem was bubbling of the flooring. It turned out the manufacturer instructions stated it could be put over concrete, wood, etc. The issue was the house is on a concrete slab that had wood parquet flooring over the wood. The vinyl flooring was installed over the wood. This should not have been done since the wood still absorbs moisture from the concrete slap, but has no way to release the moisture since the vinyl is interlocked and waterproof. The wood then swells and expands creating humps in the floor. Do not install waterproof flooring over a concrete slab covered with wood. Lowes did refund my money for the vinyl flooring.

I installed Mowhawk RevWood because our dogs were able to scratch real wood laminate. You can dig your car keys into it, check it at an angle, and you can't see a hint of scratching. Not sure if it will stand up to moisture, but it is supposed to.

Which flooring from Mohawk did you use? We're planning to use the the Mohawk Millport Hickory laminate that we got from Costco.

@@robertwheelock3406 ya we actually returned it and instead used Home Depot's Lifeproof Vinyl flooring instead of laminate. Really happy with that decision as we don't have to worry about exposure to moisture.

I have water proof Mohawk flooring with it lifting as well. It came with lifetime warranty against water and pets urine. My problem is they want the installer Empire Today to handle my claim and Empire wants Mohawk to handle the claim being a product issue. Neither company is willing to back down and won't honor the warrenty and both keep passing the buck being a catch 22. 😢

Keep calling Mohawk, everyday. Talk to different people. In the end it is a Mohawk product.

I had to go to the CEO of Empire Today to even get them to submit a claim. Mohawk refused to look into it without them. Now being to it will take a month to get a reply. BS

Why would you install laminate as a flooring expert that has been in the business for 10 years I would never put laminate in a kitchen and laundry room you should always go with a real waterproof not water resident product like LVP this is just lack of knowledge about a product there is no such this as waterproof laminate it’s the biggest lie in the flooring world

All the Masonite style laminate flooring is junk. Vinyl plank it the only way to go with this type of flooring system. I would Never use the type that doesn’t have the foam attached to the back also. All in all I really think this is some of the worst home improvement systems in the history of home improvement. I can’t wait til it’s gone for good.
