Some real advantages to watching a vid like this until the end. Just saved my kit from being the target of some serious curse words. Spooled up a new cassette with backing and full sinking line. Installed it. Fished it. Went to swap it and no-go. Backing was too tight on the cassette. Re-spooled and am now good to go. As usual, you are the champ, Brian. Many thanks, Bro!

Bought mine from Mad River about a year ago. One cassette set up for dries on floating line, one with sink tip to get those bead-heads down quickly, and the third with full-sink for streamers. Can't say enough about this setup! I'm prepared to quickly switch even while wading to target whatever the fish are after!

I switched from my salt reel with 1 spool to the cassette system 4 years ago when this video came out. Absolutely prefer it. Just wanted to say thank you. Love it. In just wish they had one for 4-6 weight. I think it is way too big for thier recommended 6-8wt. No issues with mine at all.

I've liked my Clearwater Cassette system. It's served me well for BWCA trips, during which it's nice to have floating, sink tip and full sink lines. I also love how this reviewer speaks the truth: don't ask questions about the quality of the drag when you are a bass fisherman because the drag is basically not needed (100% true). The drag is just fine for any freshwater inland game fish other than maybe carp.

I wonder what would keep a person from running a cassette with 4wt line and another with 7wt line and using the same reel between 2 rods. Maybe a balance issue with the lighter rod?

Will this reel fit on the Orvis Encounter 8wt rod??? I purchased a rod/reel combo and afterwards I read some comments on a forum that people posted that the rod only accepted the reel that goes with the combo and other reels had to have the seat guides filed down to fit the rod. I would like to get a reel where I can change out lines without having to unwind and wind new line or have different reels. It's a great concept. But I don't want to pull the trigger and buy the reel if it's not going to fit.

Hi Brian, I’m just getting back to fly fishing after 25 years. I really like the cassette reel with the deferent options for fly line... My question was is ; I own a Sage foundation 5 weight. And a Spectrum C 5/6 reel . I didn’t see an option for the cassette reel in a 5 weight. I’m on a budget and really can’t afford another rod at the moment... Is there a solution that might work for me? I’m really wanting to try streamers... Thank you in advance for your answer...

Because every reel is good for river trout and this reel is by no means good for salmon fishing. A salmon will destroy this wreel.

I do 90% or more of my fly fishing in freshwater. Most years I fish 100+ days a year. That said, I make my way to the coast for reds and trout a few times a year. I do have other sealed drag reels but used this reel the last few trips with no problems. Just make sure to pull the reel apart (takes seconds) and clean the bearing. I spray it down and add whatever oil I have on hand. I'm not sure that is recommended, but it has worked for me so far.

If you want people to trust your reviews and what you are reviewing the kitty litter beginning of this video did not help. After telling us about the excellent quality of the kitty litter and then going to review fly fishing equipment you expect your customers to believe that you are telling the truth about your products? Based on my background in advertising, I really feel that the kitty litter part of the video was a big mistake even though someone may think it is funny. And yes, I do have a very good sense of humor but that did not cut it.
