Wouldn't it be glorious if, the next time someone made a movie set in the medieval period, they spent the money and time to render 3D, fully textured, carefully animated CGI animals based on this kind of art, and use them in place of real animals? No one in the movie ever mentions it; this is just what animals look like in their world. And none of the shots in the trailers feature the animals, so it's a bizarre surprise.

The closest thing I can think of is “the secret of the Kells” where the whole thing is animated to look like an illuminated manuscript

One thing I’m glad you brought up is the fact that drawing an animal you’ve never seen is hard. Especially when you’re being told what it looks like from someone who only heard of it. Lots of animals were formed from folk lore and thus was over exaggerated. Best example of this is an elephant. Description of an elephant: It has 4 legs, and each foot has no toes, but 2 toe nails. It is large enough to walk through buildings if it wants. No one can mount it alone. It has ears it flaps when bugs come near it. The ears are also gigantic. Along with that, it has two curved spears coming from its mouth that stick out 1/2 its body length. It has no arms or hands, but its nose is nearly the length of its body and can be used like a hand to grab stuff. That’s all from someone who’s seen an elephant. Imagine hearing that, and then explaining it to someone. You might get some features right, but it isn’t going to be an accurate telling.

It has blades protruding from its face half as long as it is wide! It has ears that flap like sails on a ship and it uses its long nose as a hand!

You gotta admit tho, the medieval painter ppl were talented. They mightntve known what an elephant looked like, but dang could they paint rabbits. Fr I couldnt possibly draw that that good. I wonder if theyd plagiarize rabbits from other books. Like copy them for reference lol. Idk. :3

Those cow paintings remind me of a sculpture my grandmother has of a cow that looks ABSOLUTELY CHONKY from the side, but when you saw it from the front it looked like it was squashed into a pancake. I love that statue its so goofy. And thats how i imagine those cow paintings to actually look like

A doodle youtuber asking if illuminated manuscripts are art is ironic. My sister in Christ, you ARE making illuminated manuscripts. Look around your desk, stuck in your cell working under the monitorlight not unlike a monk under the candlelight, making silly drawings to surround and ilustrate the knowledge you're sharing.
