Sadly however whilst Steve Hackett can still hit any note he wants on guitar, Peter Gabriel wouldn't be able to do the same with his voice.

Given how little Gabriel has played Genesis songs since he went solo, I don't think he has much interest in it.

The rest of them reforming to support Peter during his financial crisis was a really cool action. I read about the show. I think Steve was late to it due to prior commitments and travel, but he managed to make the last couple songs.

If Steve Rothery is a brilliant guitar player is due to the fact that he is a big fan of Hackett. Steve Hackett is not only a great guitarist but a full and complete musician.

Not sure if for some reason he didn't understand the question, but he never did answer it. Perhaps he didn't want to.
@tessjuel
@tessjuel 2 жыл бұрын
I think he answered it right at the beginning, there was no need to "reach out" because they never lost touch with each other in the first place. In an earlier interview Beaudin asked Hackett when was the last time he had talked to another Genesis/ex-Genesis member and the answer was something like "last Wednesday". This is something we hear from all six core members of Genesis btw. They don't play together anymore but socially they are still as close as physical distances and busy schedules allow.

He's bending over backwards not to answer the question, which concerns 1977 and not these other periods of time. It's no insult of either himself or of Peter simply to say, "No, not in the immediate aftermath of my departure." Kudos to John for repeating the question when Hackett starts talking about exchanging birthday greetings in the present day (as though that has anything to do with the actual question John asked).

Steve Hackett was always on the outside, a quiet introspective individual, excluded from the Charterhouse clique. Somehow, through his more extrovert personality, Collins was able to inveigle himself and be accepted. No, Gabriel did not reach out to Steve, why would he, he quit the band and I cannot imagine Gabriel offering support, advice or psycho analytical therapy to someone he had left behind. For the depth of the affection and esteem Steve was, and is still held in by his former band mates, you only need to view the reunion documentary from some ten years ago. Contempt and disinterest spring readily to mind. Steve is still on the periphery, both physically and emotionally. The Charterhouse mob are still pretty close knit and obnoxious. Pound for pound I would take Steve's first four studio albums and his accoustic offerings, Bay of Kings and Momentum, over any of Genesis' post Hackett garbage, or Gabriel's racket riven output.

A couple of comments ... Firstly, judging by Steve's response, the answer to your question 'Did Peter reach out when Steve left ?' is probably NO. Secondly, come on guys, Steve left Genesis 45 years ago. Yes that's right, 45 years ago. And he's had a fantastic solo career every since. We all need to get over the fact that he left Genesis. Yes it was sad, yes we all realise that Steve had become stifled in the band due to the rejection of some of his songs. (It's like he's said many times since 'Once you turn on the songwriting tap, you can't turn it off'). Steve must be irritated by all this constant debate about why he left the band. It happened. It happened 45 years ago. Enough ! BTW I love all the guys in Genesis (past and present), and in particular I love Steve's solo work.

Thats true but he's touring his Genesis show so obviously not putting it all behind him. People do love drama and that was about the most drama in Genesis, so you can't fault people for that. Not sure why it would make a difference one way or another, but people do like that drama.
