Happy to be one of the few female viewers! It really is true. They NEVER ask if you need help, they talk down to you, assume youre shopping for someone else, and dont take you seriously. Literally stood at a counter for 15 minutes waiting last time i was there while they assisted every guy who walked right up. I LOVE that you brought that up. That employee deserves a raise.

Phil I am glad to know the two of you took time to be the two of you rather than the all of us. You need to do that more often. Ultimately, it makes it better for the all of us. Blessings to you both and thanks for all the two of you do for us! 😊 Regarding the MK & NF53 PRS guitars, the price point outpaces the niche of the guitar. Its a clear miss. What I see is that if it becomes discontinued rather than a staple in the PRS lineup, the guitar may grow in value due to collectibility in the coming years, but other than that, this should have began life as a $2000 guitar.

On the topic of guitars to match your hand size, Phil is correct in that there's really no way to know other than playing a bunch of guitars. I have small hands and when I started out I logically thought I would be more comfortable with thin necks and shorter scales. Years later my most comfortable instrument is a 34" P-bass with a neck like a baseball bat.

I play in a band with a guy with really small hands and for the last 12 years he has played an SG with a neck like a baseball bat. I've got fairly big hands and I generally play slim necks. There is no science to it. Don't obsess over gear, focus on creating with what you have.

I refuse to buy online, I wanna play everything first. 90% of the guitars I pick up, I wouldn't buy......there's always something wrong I notice. The people that just play anything don't realize how BAD they are missing out......and probably would become a better player by Being more picky.

I have small hands and I've always played long scale basses. I learned on them, so they don't seem too baseball bat like. I'm probably just used to it. You don't need to have giant hands to play a long scale bass. ..I've got a Squire Paranormal ''70's style P-bass, I think it's a great bass for the money...I'd gig it and go into the studio with it.

The wonders of being retired, I didn’t play for 7 years….work, truck driver, now I play 6 days a week….and if I don’t play at least 5 days per week, I lose ground, but if I do, I get better and better each week. On the other hand, if I miss a few days, it is very inspirational to play again, problem is I get too physical with it, at 67 muscle tone is critical, skin is thinner as well, I get stingers on the tips of my fingers, if I press too hard, or break capillaries purple spots, I often ice my hand when I’m done, so that’s what happens when you pick up again in your 60’s😬🙂

When Phil was talking about the weather, I had to laugh. Everything being relative, I live in Montana, but I was born and raised in Greenlee county, Arizona. I work outside currently and we start at noon. The temperature has been 68 to 72 degrees at noon and it takes until 5 or 6 to hit 78 or 80 degrees. About a week ago it was 79 at noon and went to 91. We thought we were going to die. But hey, it never got above 20 below the last week of February, so there's that.

On the PRS NF53: I think those NF pickups were a lot more expensive to develop and build than most of us realize. I'd love that body style with a set of 58/15 in the treble position and a narrowfield from the studio model in the bass position. Pricing of the Silver Sky and Fiore are $2700-2800. Seems like it is right in there for pricing with those models. Interestingly right now there are no PRS guitars on Sweetwater in the $3000-3999 range.

The last time I got burnt out- I took a 3 year break- and got into competitive bass fishing. I had a lot of stuff going on in my life- it wasn't all just burn out, but most of it was. When I came back to playing- I got into pedals, never used them before. And I had played over 25 years at the point I took a break. I used a few here and there but literally never owned one myself. Now- I'm a pedal nut, I use them every time I play. But- I am starting to burn out again- this time though, instead of pushing myself to keep going because I'm in a band and ppl are counting on me- I can just stop and go fishing for a few weeks. I came back to guitar because I burnt out on fishing- it happens, no matter what the hobby is. If you do it everyday- you will burn out eventually. I used to collect and make knives, then I got into working leather, then fishing- retirement rocks.

Regarding fizzy sounding gain in amps, sometimes you just need to turn them up. I have a few amps that sound fizzy at bedroom volumes, but come alive once they're at band volume. The Bogner Shiva is one, a Blackstar HT Studio 20 is another. The difference in sound/tone/gain at low volume and high volume is day and night. For low volume stuff it may just be better to use a modeler with headphones.

I wondered why I dreamed you and I were hanging out trying to figure out why the Silvertone guitar you bought had a slight buzz on the small E. You went in another room, apparently to record something. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up to find your several kids had completely destroyed the place. Luckily, I was in time to catch that one of them lit a ski jacket and mattress on fire...so I made him take it outside before it burned down your house. After that, I was supposed to be playing in the band after you spoke somewhere. I had never rehearsed. I didn't know anything we were going to play. Amazingly, it didn't bother me that there was absolutely no equipment on the stage. Luckily, I woke up, in real life, to find out that I had fallen asleep and this episode was playing, which also happened to be while you were still talking so I didn't have to play.

My son is a lefty . I play Jackson, so hes become a Jackson player by default. He started with a js series dinky. We upgraded the pickups to the billy gibbons Seymour Duncan set, graphtech ratio tuners. Thats been a really good first guitar. He recently upgraded to pro series lefty monark with active black outs. My kid plays everything from country to metal and im really impressed with the blackouts for active pickups. And the quality of the guitar compared to other pro series and signature models i have is pretty good for a $1200 Canadian price for a lefty. And a satin neck and not gloss for sweaty kids is awesome

I feel you about the lefty guitars… Us southpaws always get shafted. With that said years ago I started playing guitar upside down and learned to play with the low E string at the bottom. I actually have a custom made Furch that is fantastic. The body is setup left handed but it’s strung for a right handed person so I can reach up higher on the frets with the single cut in the body. I could’ve got a lefty model but I’d already been playing a right handed guitar upside down for 20 years so why bother trying to play a lefty strung guitar now.

Someone asked about a resonator guitar and I really wanted one and I ended up with 2 Godins (yes at this point in time therapy would be cheaper than leaving my gas untreated and keep buying guitar stuff). The Godins really help me scratch that resonator itch. They really sound like I wish a resonator would sound( to my ears and ymmv). The really also sound very similar and one of the is an older Godin LR Baggs and one is an A6. I don't think I ever plugged them into an amp so I'm purely talking about the acoustic sound. Next time you get to play an A6 think about that and I'm curious what other people think about what I think I hear.

@pepmasters-3694 yes I think a lot of Phil's sticker shock is that those Bolt on PRSs have gone up a lot over the last 2 years. What's surprising about them isn't that they are expensive they fit the general price range of the other Bolt on models. But rather that they are the top end of the line and that the MK and NF 53 are the same price. I do know in his 60 cycle hum interview Paul goes over some of the unique features of the guitar that aren't listed on the spec sheet. There's a lot of work in these guitars that just aren't talked about

Re: short scale guitars. I have all three of the Mitchell short scale guitars, the MS100, MM100 and the TD100. I've replaced the pickups in all of them, well, cause that's what I do. LOL. I like the MS the best, but I'm a Les Paul guy anyway. They play pretty good, no major issues with intonation or even the tuners, but I have put a cheap set of Wilkinson locking ones on one of them, again, cause it's what I do. I would recommend any one of them if you are looking for this kind of guitar. A little setup can go a long way to making them much better playing, I have not done any kind of setup/fret/nut work to any of them at this point. A nice sub $100 (when on sale, all mine were $90, so I've had them for a while) answer to a question you didn't know you asked!

In reference to lefty guitars, admittedly we have less choice from companies in colours, but I think Gibson, Epihone, Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Ibanez, EVH, Schecter and Suhr do a pretty good job giving us a nice range of options. I think the 2 companies who don’t care as much are Fender (very few options on the affordable side these days), and PRS (barely anything in the high end and only SE24s in the import range). I think I rate Gibson so much because I’ve had the option to buy all the shapes in lefty in a bunch of options.

You are completely right about the PRS Tele! In terms of price should it should be aligned with the silver sky and, for me, it adds NOTHING new … I’d rather order a custom made guitar and it would cost me less.

@livekaos that's odd because that's a way bigger price gap than here in the states so it shouldn't be an exchange rate thing. And if it was tarrifs or anything like that then it should be both of them being more not just one. That's odd.

I don't think the new PRS is supposed to be a Tele. It's definitely inspired by one, but it is a totally different guitar in my opinion. And it's pretty good!

$2900 for “pretty good” is a stupid mindset to have. That’s custom shop prices. I have a “pretty good” squier I got for less than $300

I thought I had relatively small hands and that there were certain stretches that just weren't going to happen. Then I learned some better technique. I also watched this tiny little girl (ellenplaysbass) playing a full size bass. If you are having trouble, it probably isn't the size of your hands.

THANK YOU Finally another musician who isn't just blindly singing the praises of PRS and the new MK's & NF53's. They're overpriced, the paint jobs are average at best, and frankly - they don't sound at all like a Tele! First time I heard the guitar I swear I was listening to a Gretch hollowbody. They are very warm sounding, and the bit of 'spank' they have on the bridge pickup sounds like an imitation. Dollar for dollar - just get a Fender Tele and have it set up.

What I don’t get about PRS lately, are the color choices. It’s superficial but I would love to get a Silver Sky SE, and I was waiting for the latest ones to come out because I hated the colors on the previous. Unfortunately, the new colors are just as ugly. Weird for a company known for their nice finishes. I don’t like the shape of the new tele like guitar they put but the colors are also drab just like the Silver Sky SE’s.
