To Be fair, the top 2 really should been Lautaro against Rodri, both won league (they were about the same in diff), best in their leagues and teams, won their international tournament, both player of the tornemant and TOTT, lautaro won the golden shoe for the competition, and both sides met a gruesome fate in the KO stages of UCL (man City to Madrid on pens and inter to atletico which gegen is weak against park the bus). I think Rodri deserved the award. I know I'll get infinite death threats from Madrid fans. However, i think Rodri and Vini both deserved the award. I think that because he (Rodri) is so crucial for Man City and Spain. He won the Euros with Spain when no one expected them to win. I won't say he "carried" Spain but i think he had a pivotal role in that Spain team. I remember when he scored that crucial goal against Georgia. He even won the best player award for Euros which was well deserved. In club level, He is so important for Man City because how dominant he has become in the midfield in these past few years. He even proved his dominance in the 2022 Champions League Final by scoring the only goal in it. On the other hand, Vini Jr. who had an amazing season at club level in the 2023 Champions League Final by carrying that Madrid team. However, he doesn't seem too interested in playing in the same style as he plays for Madrid. I don't hate Vini even as a Barca fan but i think Rodri deserves the Ballon D'Or but i think the winner can be chosen either way. But it's quite rude of Real Madrid that no one from Madrid show up for the ceremony as in 2020-21, Lewa knew too that he wouldn't win it but he still showed up because he respects Messi even though Messi didn't deserve it. It replaced the World Player of the Year as an award for the best footballer at that time. In this award, FIFA only prioritized a player with the best overall performance during the certain year rather than the international success (like World Cup). That might be the reason why Andres Iniesta and Wesley Sneijder in 2010, Franck Ribery in 2013, and Manuel Neuer in 2014 didn't get this kind of award, despite achieving more success than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi during those years.

me personally, I feel like bellingham deserved the ballon d'or. He scored 23 goals and provided 13 assists (36 G/A) While Vini had 26 Goals and 11 assists (37 G/A). While Rodri had 9 goals and 13 assists as a CDM, while Bellingham put better numbers than Rodri and almosy equal numbers as Vini as a CM!
