Coming from a buckeye fan of over 50 years. It’s nice to win a national championship, but it’s not nearly as nice as winning a national championship after beating Bitchagain. It sort of leaves a sour taste in your mouth for that season.

Yep. But not for the reasons people think. The "lunatic fringe" was correct in their (our) protests after the Michigan game. He heard the noise and responded as we demanded. That's all we wanted. Now look at the results. Being fawned over by fans and Media over beating up on the Purdues and Akrons would've led to a different team not competitive enough to run through Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and ND. I think I can speak for most of the lunatic fringe when I say that there's no beef because he delivered. All we wanted is for him to deliver

@@UncleKempywinning the Game used to be as important as winning a national championship because if you didn’t win The Game you wouldn’t get the chance to win the championship, but that’s not the case anymore. Perfect example was last night. Life long buckeye 4th generation fan and I wanna beat Ichigan every year but the fact is that it doesn’t matter as much anymore. This chip doesn’t feel any different than 15 did! Actually it might feel better look who we played all season and post season! We played 16 games against the best week in and week out. That depends on who you ask. jack sawyer and the university and players disagree with you. Go watch jack sawyers preseason interview with the nbc sports network on why he and all the seniors returned. You’re not gonna like it. It was a successful season but they failed the biggest goal. Sorry but his words. To the crazy fans it’s good enough to use as bragging rights I guess but they would rather beat Michigan than win a natty. Bittersweet year and no gold pants.its the best they could do to keep what Kirk herbstriet calls the lunatic fringe fan base off of Ryan day.

Well, Michigan also has a banner they can fly forever, from last year...I'd like to throw out a hypothetical question...what if the Buckeyes and Day lose again to UM this year? Will it matter? Does this natty erase it all...? You see, I think The Game has a life lasting impact on the players. I'm sure there are 4 year Buckeye players that can rejoice with this natty, but never beat UM. Same with UM...terrible stretch from 2000- 2020....most of us are fans, not the players...it probably bugs them in a way that may be hard for the fans on both sides to understand...just some thoughts here..

@@raywood4354 A couple of things for what it's worth. 1) The AD just said, in essence, that one game doesn't or shouldn't define a season. I can't imagine OSU hiring an AD that isn't in touch with the history and traditions of Buckeyes football. 2) OSU implicitly acknowledged that greater goals were just as important when they fired Earle Bruce. He had a solid 5-4 record against Michigan, but couldn't win the Rose Bowl or other big games. So I it seems that the university is, to some extent, at least as pleased with overall performance. Plus I'd be curious to see an interview with Sawyer after winning the Championship. Like I said, a National Championship is far rarer than a win against Michigan. But it is what it is, no matter how silly it seems from afar.

I don't know how serious the threat of coach Day losing his job was. What I do think is the criticism was earned. I, like many fans, was frustrated over his horrible record vs TTUN and ranked or equivalent talent! As an alumni I will always root for the Buckeyes. But no fan should accept mediocrity or teams not reaching their full potential. Coach Day has to deal with a lot on this era of NIL, etc. but was heading down the path of coach Cooper. That situation was allowed to continue way too long. I think fans were all hoping that wouldn't be the case for coach Day. This playoff was his opportunity...and coach Day clearly changed his path. After the loss to TTUN he pulled the players together, changed some things and guided this Buckeye team to a national championship! It shows us all that, even in the toughest times, keep going and incredible things can happen! The players came together having faith in God, their coach and each other. What a great season! Let's Go Bucks!

Most OSU fans, despite the narrative, didn't want to immediately fire him after Michigan b/c they had the playoffs. My opinion was 'win the natty or you're gone.' That was the metric Ryan Day himself set not b/c of his wins in totality, but b/c of his performance against Michigan...and his record against top #5 teams of equal or greater talent. Obviously he was going to be kept even if he hadn't won it all, and ultimately he answered the challenge and proved himself...but I think Ohio State fans were perfectly justified in their expectation... and their criticism.

The only problem he has had in the past is letting the other team control the game. That’s what Michigan did to him this year. He has a great passing game but against Michigan he tried to run the ball which is hard to do. But since Michigan he’s been using his receivers that’s why he’s winning. I call bs that Michigan only beat the because of cheating.

I still wish he were gone, Ohio State plays one game a year, everything before is a practice and everything after is an extracurricular. Winning The Game is the standard, period and losing 4 straight is unacceptable. Winning a national championship is completely hollow if you don’t win The Game. Winning the natty has won over a lot of fans, it hasn’t won me over, and I hope it’s simply bought him more time and I hope we have the sense to fire him if he loses The Game next November.

Ryan has not silenced his critics because they are delusional and very unrealistic. Our standard needs to be where it is, but being so critical instead of supportive baffles me. OSU “fans” are the only fans I’ve known to boo their own team. With fans like ours, who needs enemies?!! Day has been on the edge for several years. It was only a matter of time before he won the ultimate. Fire a coach who is 70-10 when the outcome of THE GAME no longer dictates who’s in and who’s out seems ludicrous. btw I hate *ichigan, but I refuse to waste time being so obsessed with them. Go Bucks! Thanks for an excellent, although not perfect, season.

His criticism was deserved (though many went too far) but that will always happen to everyone. All his failures led to his success. He did something anyone rarely can achieve. When you think of natty coaches, the current active HC are that won the natty Kirby, Dabo and now Ryan. Saban and now Mack Brown are gone. Fisher and Ogeron were natty winners but nobody really thought they were that great. Ryan did it finally and hf had more harsh things said zbout him than any other coach in this century. Kirby and Dabo never went through what Ryan did...not at Ryan Days level.

Not a OSU fan. Followed them as every other CFB fan did. I wasn’t impressed with anything throughout the season. I heard the murmurs of getting rid of Ryan Day. Considering the season my team had I could not relate but I also know context is key. I expected Oregon to take care of them. Then thought oh well Texas will certainly get it done. It was during the Oregon game that I gained some respect for the improvements and adjustments made by that organization. Then the Texas game I thought was more impressive. The game of college football has transformed. From the current trajectory it would seem that this team as well as the rest of the top teams that made it to the final rounds of the playoffs are at a slight disadvantage. That being the late transfer market after these final games of the season. It seems to narrow the market for corrections. We all know that players are only going to follow the money. Won’t cast any judgement. The one thing that OSU has going for it IS Ryan Day. He proved himself nimble at adjustment and took corrective actions. I think whatever it was that seemed a deficit at OSU should be put to bed now. These players are going to listen to the hyperbole in order to justify their reasoning. Some will cut bait and run for more money. It will be interesting to see how well these final four programs fare over the next several months. Will they disintegrate over the off-season? Or will success breed success? Money changes everything.

He's loss to MICH 4 straight years with more talented teams, hasn't won a conference chip, and losses in previous bowl games. So DAY is ALWAYS going to be a pressure cooker. To dismiss that the $20 million NIL/Collective is not a great help is disingenuous. Keeping it 100 under the 4-team playoff format OSU wouldn't have made the playoffs with 2 losses. .
@carseye1219
@carseye1219 14 сағат бұрын
Saying "wouldn't have made the playoffs" is just stupid. Everyone knew the situation going into this year. Ryan Day assembled "ALL that talent" and deserves credit for doing so. If you're going to do "what if" scenarios, imagine if the refs hadn't egregiously robbed him in TWO CFP semis and Michigan hadn't cheated. Even with all of that, there's nobody alive who remembers a HC with a better wining %. Thank God sound minds prevailed in November. We're celebrating a national championship and not in the scrap heap with the Florida States and Texas A&M's, and their firing coaches every other year. The "Fire Day" crowd were morons! And btw, this is the golden era of Ohio State football. Look at history. There's no other period of years with such continuous success.

Went undefeated, won the conf chip, and college chip with all the allegations and controversy including a weak season schedule. Yet, it took Harbaugh how long to win one with less talented teams than OSU??? OSU run in the CFB Playoffs was awesome, but loss to MICH, no conf chip or appearance doesn't equate to a golden run. OSU usually wins 1 chip a decade.

Everybody says he’s the greatest coach ever. He’s always been a great coach so you Ohio fans who wanted his head just weeks ago a month ago now have changed your minds sorry hypocrites you should always stand behind your coach regardless but good luck this year 2025 because Michigan has an arsenal you won’t be able to contain and you’re losing quite a bit of people but it’s lucky that you paid $40,000 to get the roster you got you should take it to a national championship. His teams almost never play 4 good quarters, most often only two quarters then go into a coma and let opponents catch up. He almost always plays "not to lose," NOT to win and win big. Based on the high quality of teams he recruits and the resources available, by now he should have won at least 3 national Championships, not just 1.
